10. Owen Hart defeats Bret Hart (WM 10) - Owen finally defeats his brother in a mat classic that had plenty of good build behind it.
9. Randy Savage wins WWF Title tournament (WM 4) - Savage establishes himself as a Main-Eventer and wins 4 straight matches to become the WWF Champion.
8. “Stone Cold” Steve Austin defeats Shawn Micheals for WWF Title (WM 14) - Austin wins his first WWF Championship with the aid of… Mike Tyson?!?! in a good match. This was also Micheals’ last match in the WWF (…or so we think).
7. Edge and Christian win WWF Tag Titles in a Tables and Ladders Match against The Dudley Boyz and The Hardys (WM 2000) - If you think of classic WM matches, this HAS to be one of them. All six men put their’ bodies on the line in this bumpfest in which Edge and Christian captured their first Tag Team Title. The Sextet would later outdo themselves in the first TLC Match at Summerslam.
6. Shawn Micheals wins WWF Title in Iron Man Match against Bret Hart (WM 12) - The Iron Man match was a new concept and expectations were high. Hart and Micheals delivered an awesome match of near-falls and submissions culminating in Micheals’ first WWF Title.
5. Ricky Steamboat defeats Randy Savage for Intercontinental Title (WM 3) - I watched his match recently and it still stands as one of my favorite matches of any PPV. It had a good story behind it (Savage’s “injury” to Steamboat’s throat) and the match itself was great. I remember cheering wildly when Savage went down by a Small Package.
4. The Ultimate Warrior defeats Hulk Hogan for WWF Title (WM 6) - This was I think SUPPOSED to be Hogan passing the torch to the Warrior in the biggest face vs. face match. I hated Hogan (even back then) and was thrilled to see him go down to the Thesaurus’ nightmare.
3. Shawn Micheals defeats Razor Ramon in a Ladder Match for Intercontinental Title (WM 10) - While it may not stand as THE greatest Ladder Match or not even the first, this was the one that put this type of match on the map. Shawn Micheals and Scott Hall raised the bar that all Ladder Matches following would be measured.
2. Bret Hart defeats “Stone Cold” Steve Austin (WM13) - There are two reasons this match is so high on my list: 1. It was a great match between 2 of my favorites at the time and 2. This was the match that in many people’s opinion (including mine) made “Stone Cold” Steve Austin.
1. Hulk Hogan defeats Andre The Giant for WWF Title (WM 3) - Need I say more? This match in my opinion is probably the best known wrestling match in history. I remember people who didn’t even like wrestling talking about it. It (by far) wasn’t the greatest technical wrestling match ever, but it had a great story behind it and brought many news fans to wrestling.
