411 Interviews: Dasher Hatfield of Chikara Pro

Dasher Hatfield is a wrestler for Chikara Pro. On October 29th, in Reading, PA, Dasher will be a part of The Countdown Showdown (similar to the Royal Rumble match). On October 30th, in WIlliamsport, PA , Dasher and Sugar Dunkerton, The Throwbacks will be challenging Chuck Taylor and Johnny Gargano for the Chikara Campeonatos de Parejas.

TJ Hawke: On October 30th, in WIlliamsport, PA, you and Sugar Dunkerton will cash in your three points for a tag title shot against F.I.S.T., Johnny Gargano & Chuck Taylor. How do you feel about that matchup? Do you have any words of warning for Gargano and Taylor?

Dasher Hatfield: I need not say much to put F.I.S.T. back on the warning track. Our track record against those lads speaks for itself. All be it the addition of one Jonathan Gargano will certainly play as a bit of a wild card during out encounter. The thing they do not know is that I have battled over championship gold in Williamsport, Pennsylvania before. As a matter of fact I was the MVP of the very first Little League World Series. I was just a lad playing for the local Hoboken Hobos, and I hit a spicy little daisy cutter right up the middle to ensure the victory for me and my lads.

TJ: The Throwbacks have been a fan favorite tag team for a while now. 　What has it been like to team with Sugar Dunkerton? You guys got a real strong push to start, as you defeated F.I.S.T. twice in your first three matches; how do you feel like you guys have progressed as a tag team since then?

DH: Sugar and I both come from sports in which team work is an absolute must. We both understand and value the importance of working as one finely tuned piece of machinery. It is very rare that one gets to work side by side with one of his closest lads, and luckily for us we get to share this experience. In the sport we both love and participate in currently ones progression is measured by the accolades he claims along the way. To date this a very short, if not non-existent list for The Throwbacks. Perhaps, this a question best saved for after “Maiden Flight of the Great Condor.”

TJ: Occasionally, you guys also work as a Trio with Matt Classic, one of Colt Cabana’s gimmicks. Have you learned a lot from working with Colt?

DH: I apologize, I do not see how the two are related. Matt Classic is a dear friend, a somewhat grumpy and uncooperative friend, but a friend no less. He is gone in to many great battles alongside Sugar and myself and the man is as fearsome and broad as they come. Colt is a man I have also teamed with, once, and I would say he is more of an acquaintance then a friend. For you to claim they are on in the same is quite preposterous to me. I may be able to still answer your question by telling you something I have learned from each of them. From Mr. Cabana, I have learned two very important life lessons; the first being never allow Archibald Peck to hit his finishing maneuver, and the second being never ask the Lobsterman what he thought of your match. Mr. Classic has taught me many things during our time spent together, the most valuable of which was the true understanding I now have for the importance of mayonnaise sandwiches in one’s daily food intake.
　

　
TJ: For this section of the interview, I was hoping Dasher that you can give the readers some thoughts to some of your recent CHIKARA matches:

Wit, Verve, and a Bit O’ Nerve: Dasher Hatfield vs. Tim Donst(c) for the Young Lion’s Cup

DH: This was a Battle in every sense of the word. It was a shame it had to end in the fashion that it did. Tim Donst showed me his true colors that day, and in my opinion it is a score not yet settled.

Caught in a Cauldron of Hate: Dasher Hatfield vs. Claudio Castagnoli

DH: In my mind, this was a victory in defeat. I went cleat to toe with one of best wrestlers in the entire world and took him to his very limit. My efforts and persistence forced him to utilize underhanded tactics to claim the victory. He knows now he didn’t have what it takes to keep me down while playing by the rules, and that is victory enough for me.

Creatures from the Tar Swamp: The Throwbacks vs. Brodie Lee & Grizzly Redwood

DH: Victory never tasted so sweet. (we went for pancakes after the match)

King of Trios 2011: The Throwbacks vs. Team Osaka Pro

DH: It was a real shame that we lost, but this match was as fun as any ride Coney Island has to offer. The energy from the crowd was truly amazing, and above all else it was an honor to wrestle three of the best wrestlers Osaka Pro has to offer.

Engulfed in a Fever of Spite: The Thowbacks vs. Los Ice Creams

DH: Thank goodness for Caleb, I am pretty sure they had us into that tough littler bugger lent Shoog and I a well needed hand.

Martyr Yourself to Caution: The Throwbacks vs. Soldier Ant & Green Ant

DH: I would like to think that the Colony and I are as close as chums can get. Any time you get to enter the squared circle, or the batter box for that matter, against one of your friends it going to be exciting. When you leave the victor you leave with the bragging rights as well. Traveling home from Manhattan that day with our three points was indeed a feeling so satisfying that I cannot possibly describe it.

　
TJ: Dasher, is there anything you can tell the readers about the Wrestling is Fun! promotion that will be starting in November?

DH: Should be a good time, according to the name. Come out and see it for yourself on November 18th and 19th!

TJ: Also, Dasher, have you heard from Create-A-Wrestler, Ultimo Breakfast, or Moscow recently? 　Any chance, we may see them in CHIKARA again?

DH: They used to keep in touch more often, but I get the feeling they are a bit jealous of the small amount of success I have had. I wasn’t even invited to the annual C.A.W. reunion held in parts unknown. No bother, last year Ultimo ate all the toast, and the cow wouldn’t allow us to eat any beef products.
