Hidden Highlights 3.26.12: Chris Jericho, James Storm, Daniel Bryan, More!

March 26, 2012 | Posted by Dimitri Dorlis

Hidden Highlight (n) – a small, hardly noticeable point that makes a big, positive difference. This could be anything from a wrestler putting extra emphasis into his moves to make it believable to a person in the background reacting while not the focus to the cameraman shaking the picture to create an effect. There are just so many unsung heroes of wrestling that it is impossible to cover them all.

And with that, welcome to Hidden Highlights. I am your host, Dimitri Dorlis. Each week on Hidden Highlights, we’ll be looking back on the week of wrestling, taking a look at our top 3 highlights from each of the major wrestling shows (Raw, Impact and Smackdown) and a PPV if one occurs.

Also, as with the original Hidden Highlights, we’ll also take a look at reader-submitted highlights, and post our favorite ones at the end of the columns. How do you get your submissions in to me? Well, you have two options. The recommended option would be to send me an email at [email protected] with the title Hidden Highlight. The second option would be to leave a comment here with your highlight, although I can’t guarantee that I’ll read all the comment highlights, so if you really want to get your submission in, send me that email. The best 10 submissions will get posted, so make them good!

Victory Road PPV Hidden Highlights will be delayed till next week so that we can ride that into WrestleMania.

And with all the housekeeping out of the way, let’s get down to business.

3. Chris Jericho: Canadian to the Core. – Punk already brought up the fact that Jericho is Canadian; hell, it’s basically common knowledge at this point. But despite that, Jericho rarely lets his Canadian side out. In his “Live via satellite” segment with CM Punk, we got to see it, as Jericho slipped into a more-Canadian accent, including one “aboot.” Pretty sure it wasn’t on purpose, but damn if it wasn’t great.

2. The return of the Mean Gene Okerlund Memorial Interview Stage. – We’ve had a lot of great memories of interviews Gene would conduct on the stage, from countless random Macho Man interviews in WCW, to the debut of the Gobbledygooker, that one interview with Nailz and ok there aren’t that many great ones. But the point is that the stage interview that Mathews had with Orton this week was a great throwback to the old interviews that Okerlund would conduct, and honestly I feel like they should do those more often.

1. Smug Shawn is smug. – I think I’ve mentioned that HBK is my favorite wrestler before, but I guess I have to do it again, because Shawn is just so good at everything he does (take that Punk!). Take the end of the “End of an Era” segment, which was pretty bad for some reason, yet Michaels sold the end of it perfectly with his little smirk at Taker saying that Shawn was the better of the DX duo, which he followed up by looking at HHH and giving him the verbal message of “I thought you knew that already.”

3. The most racist version of Repo Games. – I like Repo Games. I have no idea why, but watching the hosts go into trashy neighborhoods and ask dumb people to answer a few questions correctly is entertaining as hell to me. But this segment…..my god. I knew it’d be bad from the moment Anarquia (is that even his name? That’s how little I care about Mexican America at this point) came on screen and stated “Hey look, it’s Josh from Repo Games!” Not to mention the questions the group was asked were incredibly racist. I’m not sure who this segment was meant to help at all.

2. Storm watches the backstage television. – I loved the opening for the Storm vs. Daniels/Kaz match, because it made Storm look like a genius. Daniels is known for having a more psychological style, so he decided to hide in the entrance set in an attempt to sneak up on Storm. But Storm obviously knew Daniels was coming, as he turned the ambush into a hip toss on the entrance ramp. Thank god Storm acted like a rational human and paid attention to his opponents pre-match.

1. Secret highlight of the night: Sting must be some kind of idiot because he is always trusting people who turn on him multiple times. See Hogan, Flair, Luger. Can’t wait for the next Hogan heel turn, which will totally catch Sting unawares.

3. Sad Highlight of the Week: No Yokozuna/Owen footage. – I get that the WWE still can’t show footage of Owen because Martha Hart is extremely anti-wrestling, but you know what footage would have helped get over the fact that Yokozuna was more than a heel champion? Scenes of the Owen Hart/Yokozuna tag team. God that team made no sense but I loved it, and it’s sad that the later part of Yokozuna’s career won’t be mentioned.

2. Screw it this was hilarious. – If you can’t find comedy in Great Khali in full Zack Ryder getup, then you have a problem.

1. DB really doesn’t want to face Sheamus – Yeah, they started the match by having Daniel tag out quickly to avoid Sheamus, but the hot tag at the end of the match was great. Punk made the tag to Sheamus, and instead of trying to take advantage of Sheamus as he was trying to get into the ring, Bryan tried running to his corner, hoping to tag out, but no one was there. This was perfect to set up the fact that Bryan really doesn’t want to face Sheamus if he doesn’t have to.

Reader Highlights

Hawkeye gets top billing because he sent me an email. Rules are rules.

On Smackdown, Kofi sold his hand after fistbumping with Khali. I laughed.

Worldsawesomest is busy staring at Zack Ryder’s crotch.

Raw hidden highlight. Zack ryder promotes his website on the back of his tights, but on the front is the QR scannable thing that takes you directly there. Awesome.

The quickest way to my heart is to talk about Laurinaitis being awesome. Guest#9015 is my new favorite guest.

When Laurinitus came out last week, he shook Cole’s hand, but not Jerry’s. He tries to seem like a nice boss but either out of spiteful arrogance or kayfabe incompetence he doesn’t acknolwedge certain people. ol’ Johnny boy only gets better with his character.

You know who else is great? Ziggler. Matt keeps the good times going.

Ziggler checking his pulse during the tag match right after he was knocked off the apron.

Finally, Docker wanted to point out Vickie’s mannerisms, plus Hornswoggle being a Little Bastard.

I agree with you about Aksana but as she is sorta feuding with Vickie just want to say that the little things Vickie does are good as well. For example when Dolph is doing sit ups and she is resting her head in her hands like a schoolgirl with a crush. Also this weeks Smackdown during Swagger v Ryder. While Swagger is doing press ups Vickie is fanning herself.

Also at the end of the match while Hornswoggle is flying the flag and it gets in Ryders face I liked Ryders ‘Hey Bro!’
