The Wrestling 5&1 11.09.13: Kaitlyn vs Maria

November 9, 2013 | Posted by Tony Acero

Another solid week of wrestling that keeps the world spinning! This week we talk Wyatts, NXT, The Shield and more! Be sure to check out the Reader’s Rants and let me know if you ever want to be a part of it! Let’s go!!

The Wyatt Push
By Tony Acero

While I want to talk mostly about The Wyatts, this point will most certainly contain praise for Bryan and Punk as well, just so you know. Now, in regards to the Wyatt, I am sure that we are all on board for this storyline that they are involved in, especially considering how they have been pretty much floundering since their debut. While I don’t know the ties yet – if any – of them and The Authority, I’m not sure I want to know quite yet. For now, they hold just enough mystery for me to be infinitely intrigued by their activities, and what’s better is the fact that they are interacting with people we care about. I was asked in Fact or Fiction whether the feud with Punk and Bryan would escalate the Wyatts or de-escalate Punk and Bryan. I was happy to say that I felt more towards the former, with the Wyatts gaining a lot from this feud.

Let’s face the facts, people, the main event cannot hold one person forever (unless, of course, your name is John Cena), and I hope to sweet baby Jesus that Bryan’s fun at the top isn’t done. Still, Punk has been messin with Heyman for a better part of the year, and maybe it won’t be too bad of an idea for Bryan to be “distracted” by some gator-hunting hillbillies hellbent on destruction. I don’t think this will bring down Bryan or Punk in the least, and they seem to be more willing than most to put some guys over. True, the Wyatts have yet to get a clean win over either guy, but they’re heels…it’s most likely not going to happen. No, what they have been doing however, is giving Harper some time and probably will do the same with Rowan next week, making Wyatt the wild card (as he should be) and us having a grand ol time come Survivor Series.

So if there are any detractors to this feud, and let’s be fair, I haven’t really seen any, I want them to rest assured that this is what’s….best for business. At least, for now. If we are to believe that this may very easily connect Bryan back to the main event come the Rumble, leading into Mania, then everything will be A-Ok, and this is yet another example of The Authority storyline encompassing more than one person on the roster, thereby making all of them more important than they were before. In most cases (Read: Cody Rhodes, Goldust, The Wyatts), it could work wonders and create some stars along the way. In some rare instances (The Big Show, Triple H), they should really re-shift their focus. Still, I’m pretty excited about The Wyatts and Punk/Bryan mixing it up.

You Decide: Are you excited about The Wyatts feuding with Daniel Bryan and CM Punk?

The Little Wrestling Show that Could
By Michael Ornelas

I don’t know if I’m alone in this, but my favorite hour of wrestling in any given week is usually NXT, of all things. The roster is greener than the Hero of Hyrule’s tunic, but because there aren’t so many eyes on the product, the storylines aren’t micromanaged – they’re simple. And it works. Fewer cooks in the kitchen allows for full ideas to play out to their logical conclusions. There aren’t nearly as many start/stop pushes (and if they are stopped, it’s usually a talent’s release because they weren’t working out). I love that about NXT.

And nothing is overly complicated. An entire feud never really lasts more than a couple months, but I never feel like I missed out on anything. Sami Zayn vs. Antonio Cesaro took place over about a month, and had both a good story and amazing matches. Zayn’s chase of Bo Dallas right now is also really fun to watch, and it will probably end in the next month.

The Divas of NXT are also more developed than the actual WWE Divas in terms of characterizations. Paige, Emma, Summer Rae, and Sasha Banks all have distinct personalities, and really aren’t bad in the ring (especially those first two).

On the male side of things, we get a great mix of fresh faces and incredibly seasoned former-Indy talents which helps on both sides of the coin. The Indy guys have to slow things down and adapt to the WWE style (and learn how to work cameras) while the less experienced workers improve in front of our very eyes by being in the ring with Indy talents Kassius Ohno, Antonio Cesaro, Sami Zayn, Luke Harper, Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose, Adrian Neville, Corey Graves, and hopefully in the near-future we can add Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards to that list.

At the top of the list of NXT’s originals right now are Big E. Langston and Bray Wyatt. Both men have distinct personas on WWE programming, and I attribute that to their time in NXT. Sure, there are things to dislike about watching WWE’s developmental talents hack through the rough of their young careers (I personally can’t stand CJ Parker or Tyler Breeze right now), but more often than not, I really enjoy that weekly hour of wrestling. And if you’re not watching it, I recommend it. You won’t get any ***** matches, but you’re going to get uncomplicated stories that pay off the way they’re supposed to, the occasional ***3/4 match, and SAMI ZAYN. Or, you know, someone of whom you’re a huge fan.

You Decide: What are your predictions?!

In a hell of a surprise, Kaitlyn makes her official entry into the Hall of Bang! She has beat Layla, and now takes her place in the bottom row. With that win, she is able to take a shot at the top row. Will she be able to master Maria?!

And now…..

Voting ends Wednesday night and you can vote once every hour!

The Future of the WWE
By Harry Broadhurst

Everyone, welcome the innovator and creator of the Facebook YES! YES! YES! Page!, Harry Broadhurst!!

So, we ask ourselves: where does the next WWE main eventer come from? The facts are, he’s already on the roster and I think my pick is going to surprise a lot of people. I am a huge fan of Dolph Ziggler. I’ve sung the praises of Dean Ambrose (Jon Moxley) for years. I’m glad to see Antonio Cesaro finally getting the reactions he deserves. Seth Rollins, Luke Harper and Bray Wyatt are all other people who could be considered deserving of this designation. But none of them are who I think…give me three seconds to think about it.

Actually, three ain’t enough, man. I need five. Yes, I honestly think the future of the WWE may indeed be Big E Langston.
A lot of people wrote him off as just the typical WWE big goof when he was the muscle for Dolph Ziggler. A lot of people didn’t give him a chance once he was turned away from Ziggler and the feud between the two didn’t exactly set the world on fire.

But let me take you back to Raw from Monday night, where Big E gets seventy five percent of a popularity vote in a contest that involved Dolph and The Miz. The truth is, fans are already behind Big E following the face turn. And I think in the process, the WWE may have lucked their way into having Big E as the future of the WWE. His work with Orton on Monday was really impressive. He was made to legitimately hang with the WWE champion and didn’t look out of place doing so.

The future of WWE? Sure looks he’s going to get more then just five to prove it. And I for one hope he does, based on what we’ve seen so far.

You Decide: Is Big E the future of the WWE?
