The Triple Threat 10.29.06: The 25th Edition

October 29, 2006 | Posted by Sean, David, Alex

Hello everyone, well first I have to apologize because I sent the column in late because some unexpected occurrences. Also Alex had computer problems and he couldn’t do the column this week. The lateness did not allow me to ask for a fill-in so the Triple Threat is down to a tag team for one week. David and I handle things solo for this week which is kinda weird. Nonetheless, we talk about Bound For Glory results, Kings of Wrestling possibly in WWE? Monty Brown close to being with WWE, and a lot more, don’t forget to read the column. Oh yeah I also didn’t have time to do links or feedback, again apologies all around. Man, this is too sappy on to the column.

Topic #1 TNA’s big PPV Bound For Glory was last week. What did you think of the show?

David: It was a good PPV by far. I really enjoyed the show but of course I have my likes and dislikes about it. I really enjoyed the Senshi vs. Sabin match. It was one of the best matches on the show even though the finish was rather bad. The best match of the night, to me, was the LAX vs. The Fallen Angel and AJ Styles in the Six Sides of Steel match. The worst match on the card was the NWA title match. It was slow and boring. I really couldn’t get into the match at all but at least Sting won and hopefully now he can put over someone in TNA by losing the title to an up and comer. If you haven’t saw this PPV already you should defiantly check it out.

Sean: This was the first TNA PPV that we’ve seen together so that was cool. It was a good decision to start out with the Gauntlet Battle Royal. The problem is we got a little bit of Russo-nomics introducing like every wrestler that wasn’t on the show into the match which made it really silly. It also makes no sense to have a feud with Alex Shelley and then you have Jay Lethal be the one that ends up at the end with Austin Aries. Not to mention they made Austin Aries look weak in the match-up as well. I didn’t really care for that match but I’m glad Aries won. This feud for Kevin Nash between Aries and Shelley could be very interesting. The four corners match was good for what it was and it was obvious that Team 3D was going to win. What makes less sense is the Naturals (taking in account what happened this week on Impact too) were a complete waste of time. They got squashed big time and now are back into obscurity. The Monster’s Ball was damn good and had some pretty big spots especially the Senton by Joe pushing Abyss’s head into the tacks. Again knowing who was going to win kinda took some of the steam out of it, but at least we were rewarded with an Angle vs. Joe confrontation. At least the Eric Young deal was short but he should have just squashed Larry Z. Sabin vs. Senshi was damn good but I’m upset that Sabin won the title because TNA has done nothing with Senshi and now what is he going to do? Also with the rumors of AJ winning the title back soon it seems all for not at the moment. The Streetfight was alright, if it wasn’t for the Piledriver through the table spot it would have been just a normal match. Christian needs to be established as the #1 heel on TNA already. Match of the night no doubt about it, goes to the Six Sides of Steel Tag match, that delivered above all expectations. I think that one is with the PPV itself. I didn’t care for the Main Event, but I am glad that Sting won it. The tournament to crown a new champion is a good idea, but that Russo battle royal this week was ridiculous. It was a good PPV overall, glad to see TNA got really close to a sellout of the Compuware Arena and wish them the best next time they travel out of the impact zone.

Topic #2 Bound For Glory was a night where all the titles changed hands. Did you agree with all the decisions? If not why?

David: I absolutely agree with all the title changes. LAX is the most dominate tag team in TNA and they deserve the belts. Sabin showed us a great match and proved he deserved the title. Everyone knew that Sting would win so it wasn’t a big surprise and thank God that Jarrett is no longer the champ.

Sean: As a Latino I’m always happy to see LAX on my screen and seeing them with the titles makes it even better. This is the end of a fantastic feud and I guess this means Daniels and AJ are going back into the X-Division. LAX already has a feud with AMW lined up and are as dominant as ever. It’s good to see the Latino nation on top at least for a little bit. As I discussed above I’m not happy with the Chris Sabin title change because Senshi was supposed to this warrior that was coming to take over the X-Division. He has done pretty much nothing since returning to TNA and has barely been on television. I know they’ve been having problems backstage but you know at least try something with him, he could be a big thing for the company. Oh well, maybe with Aries and Shelley we will see a revival of the division soon. Sting won, and he should have no doubt about it. I think Jarrett knew that TNA stood to lose a lot if Jarrett kept the title at their big show. Now he’s leaving to be with his wife who has cancer, I wish him and his family the best. I hope his babyface run fails so he can just get off TNA television for good.

Topic #3 Big news hit this week that Monty Brown may be close to signing a deal with WWE. Should he go there?

David: Of course! I can’t wait to see Monty Brown in a WWE ring. I think that he will be a better fit for the WWE style and plus WWE could use another great mic technician. I just hope that they don’t ruin his character or give him a new character that won’t get over. The E should just let him keep what he’s got and run with it because, most likely, it will work.

Sean: TNA doesn’t have room for someone like Monty Brown and much less they don’t know how to market him, so it’s better that he goes to WWE. In TNA Monty was allowed to show off his mic skills but he never put his whole effort into being a wrestler. Even if TNA got two hours he still doesn’t fit their style of wrestling first, talking second (even though a lot of the talking has shown itself on tv recently.) The thing is Monty is going to have to be serious about the wrestling part if he goes to WWE. I think we will eventually see Monty on RAW, but you know Vince is dying to do a Lashley vs. Monty Brown match at Wrestlemania. Monty needs to go to SmackDown learn from the experienced veterans, he can form a tag team with Lashley and then begin the feud before No Way Out sometime. It will be interesting to see how much of a push Monty gets because the track record for these types of transfers is not good. People like to throw in Jeff Hardy as an example that Vince has changed his mindset, but I think that has more to do with the fact that he is an old WWE star. He got a big singles push in 01-02 before he got himself in trouble, and Vince likes him. Monty has the mic ability to sway Vince but his wrestling will be the key. I hope he does go to WWE and does well for himself there.

Topic #4 WWE also has expressed lots of interest in Claudio Castignoli after passing a test at DSW. They’ve also expressed some interest in hiring Chris Hero. What do you think about the possibility of the Kings of Wrestling in WWE?

David: It would be perfect as long as they got to keep their gimmick. WWE needs some tag teams so why not bring the best tag team in the indies to their roster? It would be a great idea to have them but like I said, only if they get to keep their gimmick.

Sean: That’d be great to see Hero and Claudio in WWE. I don’t think Chris Hero would go to WWE unless he saw that Claudio got a big push or something though. If they are going to bring them in as a tag team then they should go to SmackDown where the better wrestlers are, not to mention they would get to wrestle against their trainers and Chris Benoit which could make many match of the year candidates. I could see WWE bring them in separately too, sending one of them to SmackDown and one of them to RAW. I could see Claudio working well with Hardy, Carlito, Shelton, Super Crazy and the like. I like that WWE was enthusiastic about Claudio and hope this means he could have a bright future in WWE, if he does sign with them. I would go crazy if the Kings of Wrestling showed up on television. I think it would be even better if they make a little stable with CM Punk and someone else added to the mix.

Fun Topic of the Week: What’s your favorite Wrestling show to watch right now? And Why?

Explanation: This question may not necessarily be something that is going on in the wrestling news, but it is what it describes. The fun topic is there to get everyone thinking about how they would answer the question. Basically your own personal brain teaser where you can answer it however you wish. This is what we had to say about this week’s fun topic.

David: Since I don’t get to watch Smackdown because of work, I have to go with ECW. It always entertains me when I watch it and I always feel like I’m watching something new. It’s good to see guys like CM Punk getting pushed, too. ECW has given us some great matches this past month and, even though we cant expect it every week, there surly more to come. I just hope that they get two hours soon so there will be more to watch.

Sean: If you read what I said last week, then you should know that my favorite show right now is SmackDown. Aside from this week, they have consistently delivered a good show almost every week. It has wrestling with a good mid-card and lots of younger guys mixed in with the old bunch. At least the tag titles get defended every now and then on this show, plus King Booker is champion. I don’t think you can beat that.

Topic #6 Wrestling Society X will begin taping soon in Hollywood. Here’s some new info on the wrestlers:

-WSX has confirmed that Dragon Gate stars Masato Yoshino and Genki Horiguchi, British star Steven Lyndon, and CZW star Ruckus are booked for the Wrestling Society X debut TV tapings. -Also confirmed for the tapings are Vampiro, Sean Waltman, Jack Evans, Matt Sydal, Lizzy Valentine, Teddy Hart, and The Human Tornado. What do you think of their mix of wrestlers with the idea of the show?

David: I think the show will suck and I probably won’t watch it.

Sean: Well I still don’t think that the MTV music and wrestling concept is going to work if they run the show for 30 minutes. The spotfests are cool to draw in viewers but after a while they get old. They do have a nice mix of wrestlers on the show. The current Brave Gate champion Masato Yoshino, he used to run with Milano A.T. and is known for being one of the fastest wrestlers there is. Ruckus is a known wrestler from CZW along with the other guys on the roster could make for an interesting show. I think I’m gonna have to see how the show shapes up before I make a judgment call on it.

Topic #7 We also got some bad news on the SmackDown front. William Regal and the tag division are hurt by the recent injury of Dave Taylor. He tore his left mensicus at the last SmackDown tapings and will be out 4 to 6 months. How much does that suck for SmackDown?

David: It hurts the tag division and it hurts Regal. The tag division right now is consisted of two teams so taking any new team away hurts a lot. It also hurts Regal because they were giving him the chance to be in his old character which could of got him far. I don’t know what’s going to happen now but I hope that they find someone to replace Taylor.

Sean: This flat out sucks for SmackDown. Every time they find a way to beef up the tag division someone either gets injured or leaves the show. Also it seems that Regal always finds a way to get screwed out of some push. He had his big chance in the tag division to be on television but then this injury occurred. Now Regal will go back to wrestling Vito and other jobber talent. Also London & Kendrick are left wrestling the same tag team again, which is going to kill the division quick. The tag titles are probably going to be sitting around for a while longer, unless WWE finds another tag team to send over there. I hope Dave Taylor gets well soon, so we can see the Bluebloods kick more ass than ever before.

Topic #8 Harry Smith’s is starting to make the rounds on WWE.com, when he debuts, which show do you think would be the best fit for him?

David: I think he should make his debut on Smackdown. On Smackdown he would actually have a chance to do something rather then being overshadowed on RAW by DX and John Cena. He could join the mid-card and have great matches with Finlay, Regal, Lashley and Kennedy. It would a better fit for him and he could learn a lot more from the veterans.

Sean: I agree with David that he should go to SmackDown because he can learn from the best, and has a chance to grow as a wrestler. If he goes to RAW he will be thrust into a big live environment where he will be cutting promos and getting limited in the ring. SmackDown is the perfect fit for the son of Davey Boy.

Match of the Week Nominees: John Cena vs. Johnny Nitro, Triple H vs. Randy Orton (RAW), ECW Championship Contract Ladder Match: Big Show vs. RVD (ECW), John Cena & Batista vs. King Booker & Big Show (SmackDown)

Explanation: Match of the Week is where we honor those companies that have enough money to get themselves a national television deal. We list the ones that we thought were the best from the three shows and then pick our favorite. We may include a Heat match if it was really good but most of the time it will just be from RAW, SmackDown, ECW and TNA Impact. PPV’s don’t count because we always give out our match of the night when we give our thoughts on them. Also we only add an indy match if we went to the show. So here are our picks for Match of the Week.

Sean: ECW Championship Contract Ladder Match: Big Show vs. RVD

David: ECW Championship Contract Ladder Match: Big Show vs. RVD

Well that is all for this week folks. Thanks everyone for reading, we would sure like to know what you think about these topics. It’s always good to have someone else to argue with besides these guys. We hope you enjoyed this edition of the column and we will see ya’s laters. Later Triple Threaters.
