My Take On 01.24.07: TNA’s Top Matches of 2006

The bell rings and they begin the brawl. Abyss with clubbing shots to both men. Abyss tries to control both men, but Rhino back with chops for he and Joe. This pisses off Joe, so he drops some stiff ass forearms to both men. Head butt to Abyss and a running clothesline sends the big man to the floor. Rhino back, Abyss trips him up so he goes to the floor. DOUBLE ELBOW SUICIDA FROM JOE! Joe looks for weapons of mass destruction and finds the trashcan lid of destructivity! He nails Abyss, but Rhino catches Joe with a PLANCHA! Rhino and Abyss brawl up the entrance way and Joe is back with a trashcan shot to Abyss. He then punts the can into his face! Glorious! Joe and Rhino battle into the crowd and up the bleachers! Rhino picks up someone’s phone, talks and eye poke to Joe! They brawl into the crowd now and Joe sets Rhino on a chair. OLAY KICK TO RHINO! Abyss is now here and has some soup bones for Joe. He has a chair and nails Joe in the gut. Then to the head. He nails Rhino as well. Rhino fights back and nails Abyss with the chair. Joe back with forearms to Rhino. Then to Abyss. He has a chair and kicks it into Abyss’ face! Joe’s back is all bruised already, damn. Joe now slams Abyss to the speakers. They brawl back to ringside as Rhino tosses toys into the ring. Rhino has Abyss and slams him to the ring apron. Rights to Abyss, Joe back and beats down Abyss as well. Into the ring and Rhino has a table slid in there. Atomic drop, running yakuza and the senton with a trashcan lid by Joe gets 2. Abyss is in and starts to beat down Joe. GOOZLE…counter and Joe with the SNAP powerslam on Abyss! Impressive. Spinebuster by Rhino on Joe for 2. Abyss wedges a trashcan in the corner. Rhino sets up a table in the corner now. Joe slams Rhino into the table and then gets low blowed by Abyss. Abyss tosses Joe into the trashcan in the corner. Belly to belly by Rhino on Abyss. Monty there and slams Joe into the wall. Monty beats on Joe with pieces of the wall. Eye poke by Rhino, takes Monty up stairs into the bleachers. Brawling into the crowd, Joe grabs a crutch and beats on Monty! Joe gets a chair, nails Rhino! Monty back and attacks Joe. Monty has Joe…LOW BLOW by Joe and a superkick to Monty. Joe has a FN Umbrella and nails Monty. Rhino looks under the ring and we have PLUNDAH~! Rhino suplexes Monty onto the ramp. Joe and Rhino brawl on top of the ramp now. Belly to belly by Rhino! Monty sets it up…Joe nails him with the paint tray. They fight onto the ramp…knees by Monty. Suplex try…Joe fights…chops to Monty…they go to the top of the entrance now. Knees by Monty. Neckbreaker by Monty on the ramp. Monty to his feet…Pounce try…but Rhino nails him with the can lid. Rhino sets up another table…and another against the wall. Rhino rams Monty into the set. RHINO MISSES THE GORE AND FLIES OFF F THE STAGE THROUGH THE TABLES! RHINO IS DEAD! Joe grabs Monty…STO THROUGH THE TABLE OFF THE RAMP TO THE FLOOR! 1…2…3!

Williams in and he and Puma will go. Headlock by Williams, chops by Puma. Williams takes him down and Dutt tags in. Slam by Dutt, Asai moonsault for 2. Snap mare and a basement dropkick gets 2 for Dutt. Puma elbows out and tags Williams. Kicks by Williams and the tree of woe! Sabin tags in and gets the Levitation corner dropkick for 2. Running kick by Sabin gets another 2. Surfboard by Sabin on Dutt. Dutt escapes, reverses and gets one of his own. Sabin fights to his feet, Dutt snaps him down for 2. Sends Sabin to the corner and chops him. Dutt with a corner elbow and Puma tags in. Kicks to Sabin and he is lighting him up. Snap mare and another running dropkick for 2. Dutt with a dropkick to Williams to break that up. Williams gets a tornado DDT and calls for the CD! Dutt counters and gets a BACKDROP DRIVER! 1…2…Sabin makes the save! Sabin and Dutt face off with chops. SPINNING POWERBOMB by Sabin for 2! Puma gets a butterfly suplex for 2 on Sabin. Dutt and Puma battle…Puma to the floor. Hot shot by Williams. CANADIAN FUCKIN DESTROYER on Dutt!. He tries it on Sabin, Puma in and breaks it up! Sabin snatches up Puma and gets the Cradle shock for the win!

Eye poke by Harris, wristlock and Daniels with an escape and trip and steps on the hair of Harris. Off the ropes and a dropkick by Daniels. Trip to Storm and they land in the 69 position. The broke-back chants start. Storm accidentally dumps Harris. PLANCHA by AJ! AJ tosses Storm back in and a slam by Daniels. Slingshot elbow drop by Daniels gets 2. AJ back in and they double-team Hernandez with elbows. AJ climbs for the belt as CD tries to fight off LAX. Cide swings him and AJ stuns himself off the top rope. Cide gets a chair, misses CD and an Enziguri to Hernandez. Cide tossed him to the floor…SUICIDE DIVE TO CD BY CIDE! SASUKE SPECIAL BY AJ! They circle to “Joe’s gonna kill you” chants. They lock up, to the corner and Angle grabs a choke but Joe has the ropes. Dueling chants now as they lock up again, to the mat and Angle with a top wristlock. Joe to his feet and powers Angle off. Trip by Angle, he gets a single leg crab but Joe quickly into the ropes and a boot by Angle. They circle again, wristlock by Angle, but Joe reverses it and levels Joe with a short arm clothesline. Jabs and chops by Joe and Angle is rocked and down. Boots by Joe and he then chokes Angle. More jabs by Joe, followed by shots to the body now and Angle is down again. Off the ropes and a reversal and Joe tosses Angle to the floor. Joe follows him out now and STIFF shots to Angle. Angle battles back with uppercuts. Angle back into the ring and then a plancha onto Joe! He lays the boots to Joe, and then slams him into the steel steps. Again, slaps to Joe and then slams him to the steps again! Angle back into the ring and he waits on Joe. Baseball slide by Angle and Joe hits the railing. They brawl at ringside now, Joe is fired up and back into the ring we go and Angle catches Joe with knees and boots. Uppercuts again to Joe, Irish whip and a back elbow by Joe. Clothesline by Angle and Joe is back down. Suplex by Angle gets 1. Angle with a body scissors on Joe now. Joe rolls into a key lock, Angle rolls and gets 2. Angle into an arm bar now, Joe manages to get the ropes and they break. Angle pounds away on Joe, but Joe back with jabs. Joe misses a clothesline and hits the ropes throat first. More uppercuts by Angle, grabs Joe and Joe battles back. Overhead belly to belly by Angle! Cover by Angle gets 2. Angle with a rear mount now, choking out Joe. Snap mare and a reverse bear hug by Angle as he continues the mat game. Joe to his feet, and gets a SICK RELEASE GERMAN on Angle~! Both fight to their feet, they exchange shots and off the ropes, clothesline by Joe. Off the rope again and a CLUTCH on Angle, escape and a GERMAN by Angle! Another! A 3rd by Angle! Angle stalks Joe, Angle slam countered but Angle with the ankle lock! Joe rolls and Angle slams into the corner. KNEE OF DOOM by Joe! Angle set up top… Angle fights and Joe with a HUGE Enziguri! Muscle buster countered into a roll up for 2! Ankle lock by Angle again! Joe rolls and escapes, but Angle sets and gets the Olympic Slam! 1…2…NO! STRAPS DOWN~! Ankle lock again! Joe rolls and gets the clutch! Angle fights…looks to tap…but escapes into the ankle lock again! Joe fights, spins and gets the clutch again! Angle almost taps, but fights. Angle is able to slide out and gets the ankle lock one more time. GRAPEVINE by Angle! Joe drags himself and Angle towards the ropes…and gets them! Angle is pissed and stomps on the ankle of Joe. Angle sets Joe up top…rights by Angle. Angle up top…Joe fights…head butt and Angle is down! Joe up top… Angle runs up and gets a SUPER BELLY TO BELLY ON JOE~! Angle covers 1…2…NO! TO their feet, Olympic slam countered into an arm drag. Angle runs into Joe and we have the ref bump…booo! Joe gets the clutch! ANGLE TAPS! But there is no ref. Joe grabs the ref and tries to get him back up and Angle LOW BLOWS Joe! Angle gets a chair, misses Joe and hits the ropes and it slams Angle in the face. Joe grabs him by the tights, CLUTCH~! Angle tries to grab the ankle…he can’t and taps!

My Take On:
And there we have it, my top 12 TNA matches of 2006. While the company has made numerous business and booking decisions that are questionable, there is no doubt that there is still a lot of good wrestling in the promotion. The guys are busting their asses to make this company worth your time, especially when it comes to PPV.

As much as some things change, they stay the same. Last year AJ was the top man as he put on 7 matches on our countdown, this year he had 6, which is still great. Daniels, who wasted a lot in 2005 until the feud with AJ/Joe was able to step it up in their matches, but this year proved why so many people have a great respect for him. Finally there is Joe. In his first full “calendar” year with the company he delivers beyond expectations and finds himself in EIGHTS of the company’s best matches of the year. Once again, their importance in this company cannot be disputed. While Team 3D, Christian, Sting and Angle have come into TNA and taken a lot of the spotlight, these men have guaranteed the good matches in the company and probably will for some time to come. And there you have it, the best of TNA in 2006. I hope you enjoyed this look back and I will be back next year with more of the best.
