411’s Independent Draft Spectacular 7.02.07: PWG Presents Shake It 3 Times

Thanks to Matty S at Madmark.com for the following results!

Pro Wrestling Guerrilla “Shake It 3 Times”
Saturday July 14th, Culver City, CA. Start Time: 7:10
Approximate Attendence: 500 – 550

So I just got back from the PWG show, “Shake It 3 Times”, and I gotta say, I know ‘new beginnings’ and ‘changes of direction’ and even ‘revolutionly product’ gets tossed around a lot, but “Shake It 3 Times” was both progressive and regressive, but in a good way. Top notch show.

Me and the other forum guys (Represent!) got there at 6pm because everyone on the boards say to get there at least an hour early to get good seats, and managed to be allowed in. They had some Hip Hop playing, and it was a real fun atmopshere. That sort of thing isn’t major, but it’s nice, you know? Anyway, after we found our seats (when the DVD comes out, I’m the guy in the Cactus Jack shirt 2 rows back, 3 in from the entrance), the show started.

Opening Promo: American Dragon, Teddy Hart, STACY KIEBLER(!!!), Whole Roster.

Joan Ian starts the show off and was about to introduce the first match when without warning Bryan Danielson comes out and starts off about not being drafted first (“I’m the best in the world! Ok, so ROH got 2 guys, but come on!”). Then Teddy Hart rolls out in his pink oven mitt outfit and the place just went nuts. He said something about “Best in the World” and they went to the “stare down of doom”. A little shoving match started and just as the two seemed to come to blows, ‘Legs’ by ZZ Top starts off, a leg pops out through the curtain and STACY F’N KIEBLER walks the aisle. The place went APE SHIT!! Man is she hot in person. She gets in the ring (yo, Cochis, hook me up with that photo you got of her bending over to get in man!), and gets between the two.

I don’t know word for what she said since I was staring at her ass for the most part but Apparently, this Domingo guy is merely brokered the deal and didn’t have the money to make it happen on his own. She said her and a few of her “girls” bought the majority rights to PWG. Since she’s already in Hollywood she will pop in from time to time just to make sure things run smoothly. She said one of the other Owners will be by next show to make sure everyone is happy with the product. She promised us “100% Satisfaction Guaranteed”, but did that Quote/Un-quote thing with her fingers. Holy shit. (And there’s your major arc for the next few months, Who Else Is Calling The Shots? According to the rumors I heard, that the first one off the ranks to be at the next show, is TRISH STRATUS (!!!!), which if is true would be huge. It makes total sense… “Satisfaction”, “Stratusfaction”, huh? Huh? Now I can’t wait for the PWG Women’s DVD to come out…hopefully) Stacy clarified that while Dino is still PWG Wrestling Commish and Excaliber’s Food & Bev Commish, Stacy, in-between acting jobs, is the CEO of PWG. Well, there are certainly worse choices. She then ordered the two to the back, their match was later. Bryan and Teddy then brawled, and the entire locker room ran out and pulled them apart and backstage. Wild.

So-Cal Scramble Elimination- The Youngbucks vs Top Gun Talwar & Ronin vs Peter Goodman & Al Katrazz vs Aaron Aguilera & Lil’ Cholo

So after a brawl, we get a scramble match. Makes sense. I assume they grabbed every SoCal guy left undrafted and are giving them a kind of “workout match” to see who they might book again. Well at least the ‘Bucks came out to ‘MMMbop”. Decent enough elim match, Ronin and Al Katrazz got their teams knocked out early after they spent a good 5 minutes beating each other up, they got a double count out when they refused to get back in the ring after they started brawling (singles match at the next show, no DQ?). Goodman and Top Gun were pissed, Top Gun got in Ronin’s grill and Ronin pie faced him, Al Katrazz looked at Goodman and he pretended it was cool and wanted some “dap”…of which he got none. So it came down to Aaron ‘Don’t Call Me Jesus’ and Lil’ Cholo vs. The Youngbucks. Aka Hardyz-lite. A decent match between them occured, the usual. Cool spot though when Aguilera hit a top rope “Iconoclasm” on his own partner that ended with a senton bomb onto one of the ‘bucks. The finish was fairly standard, with Aaron nailing a Border Toss on… one of the Young Bucks, into the other one, then as Aaron dragged one out to the floor to beat on, the other countered Lil’ Cholo’s small package into his own for the win. Afterwards they did the Youngbucks pose and made belt motions. I think they’re getting a little ahead of themselves considering they aren’t even part of the roster yet officially. Maybe they’ll get to wrestle the tournament losers though. Match got a good 10 minutes an that’s really all they needed.

Cheerleader Melissa vs. MsChif vs. Shelly Martinez- Melissa’s hot, MsChif is scary and Shelly is both. Shelly was looking mighty fine and was a total 180 from the goth stuff she wore in ECW as Ariel. Kind of a cross between a 50’s pin-up girl and a chula, especially the dark lip liner with the light lipstick…you know what I’m talkin’ about. Still, hot. She came out and hugged Jesse Hernandez who runs EWF down in Orange County where she got her start. She came out to some generic Mexican rock song, although that would make sense later. The three had a good match but the crowd wasn’t sure exactly how to react to seeing their first women’s match, MsChif and Shelly working over Melissa until the team fell apart. A memorable spot saw Shelly hit a release german on MsChif, who landed back first on Melissa’s knee as she was getting up. Great timing on that. Melissa ended up the winner, nailing MsChif with the Kudo Driver after Ms took Shelly out with a Desecrator. A little more time than the opening match, but not by much. After MsChif left, Shelly hugged Melissa and raised her hand…then gave her a short armed clothesline. She then hit her with a Shell-Shock. Not once, but twice. Wow, those SoCal girls are territorial. Afterward a bunch of the ring crew came over to help her out but she pushed them away and wobbled to the back as the crowd gave her a standing ovation.

B-Boy vs. Babi Slymm vs. Joker vs. Quicksilver- So winner gets a contract, loser never gets one. Surprisingly short match, given the stakes. It was a super sprint all the way, but then it was mostly angle. Slymm and Joker quickly teamed up and took it to the faces. Quick and B-Boy then fought back, I assume the San Diego connection was the reason. It was good to see Quicksilver after his concussion scare and he didn’t look like he had a bit of ring rust. Quicksilver dominated, Slymm hung back mostly, which was probably a good thing considering match quality, eventually an errant Joker crossbody took the ref out, and then Ruckus ran out, tossed a heavy gold chain to Joker and he nailed everyone with it then as the ref came to. He covered Quick for the 1,2….3,NO, he kicks out. Slymm hits his “Black HO Slam” on B-Boy for a cover, Joker then break it up, gets an Irish Whip and a reversal to a “Lucifer’s Hammer”. Quick hits an enziguiri to him, goes up tope and gets caught with a “Joker Driver”. As he makes the cocky cover on Quick B-Boy comes out of nowhere for a Shining Wizard and collapses on top of Quick for the 3 count. Afterward the two hug and the crowd gives Quick a “Thank You Quick” chant. It’s broken up by BLK OUT who lay a beating on both of them as the Pitbulls come out for the save. Quick had to be carried out unlike Melissa. So looks like Quick’s retirement rumor was right after all, at least he got to put over a buddy on the way out. He’ll be missed.

Ladder Match- PAC vs. Scorpio Sky vs. M-Dogg 20- So a briefcase hung above the ring, with the contract in it (Stacy hung it up, kissing the bright pink case before she did so and also giving everyone a hell of an upskirt view as she hooked it) for the next world title shot. Wild ass ladder match, as you can imagine. Guys flying everywhere. Too many spots to count, but I think my fav was Pac nailing a dive onto a ladder see-sawed across the crowd barricade, sending the other end into the faces of Sky and M-Dogg as they brawled in the audience. Oh yeah, and Pac jumped FROM THE OTHER SIDE OF THE RING. Fucking crazy. Eventually Sky and Dogg were on the same ladder, under the case, they traded fists, Sky grabbed the case and slammed Dogg in the head with it a few times, then let go to push Dogg off the ladder, and PAC, I can’t believe I’m typing this but it happened, jumped off a turnbuckle and CAUGHT THE SWINGING CASE, pulling it down to win. Major pop for that. Incredible match.

Davey Richards vs. Alex Kozlov- Surprisingly this seemed like an extended squash for Davey up until the end. I guess he’s next in line after PAC or something, coz Alex got the snot beat out of him. Still, it was enjoyable. A lot of stalling by Davey and kicks to the face of Kozlov and he kept calling him a “Pretty Boy”. The crowd was really behind Kozlov since he hasn’t been back in over a year. Kozlov ended up getting little offense and mostly just fancy roll-ups on Davey, still his time in Mexico was well spent. At one point a woman who was on Davey’s ass the whole match and kept holding up a “Alex is 10000% Guapo” sign. Davey went over to the DVD table at one point, grabbed a pen, then went over to the woman and took her sign and changed “Guapo” to “Gay” and throw it back at her. Funny bit, but stuff like this is why Davey doesn’t get the 100% heel heat he should. In the end Kozlov got a “Red Scare” submission on Davey but he managed to rake the referee’s eyes on “accident” reaching for the ropes. Alex went up top but Davey caught him, finishing with a top rope GTS2.0. Good match so I’m not sure if this is a full blown feud or if Davey will be next in line after PAC.

Tag Team Tournament 1st Round-

Havana Pitbulls (Rocky Romero/Ricky Reyes) w/ Julius Smokes vs. The Muscle Outlawz (Masato YOSHINO/Genki Horiguchi) w/ Jade Chung- Slow “feeling out” period to start the match and then out of nowhere Joker comes out and bashes Smokes over the head with a chair. He flips off the Pitbulls who are stunned and leaves. Smokes is helped to the back and the match proceeds with MO’z getting the advantage while the pitbulls are distracted. Great match the rest of the way as the MO’z speed comes into play against the “Strong Style” of the HP’s. A couple false finishes as Ricky has Genki in a Dragon Sleeper which is broken up by YOSHINO. He hits Ricky with a “Lighting Spiral” but is saved by Rocky. Some back and forth stiff slaps and YOSHINO runs the rope at superspeed to set up a “Torbellino” when Rocky plants him with Flying knee to the face. YOSHINO flies back but knocks Ricky out of the ring. Rocky picks up YOSHINO for an ankle lock but Jade jumps on to the apron to distract the ref as YOSHINO taps, Rocky gets up to confront her and Genki catches him in a “Backslide from Hell”, just as Rocky looks like he is going to reverse it, YOSHINO comes off the top rope with a big hang time drop kick to Rocky into the ‘Backslide from Hell” for the 3 count. I guess BLK OUT wanted Smokes out of the way so he couldn’t neutralize Jade or something. Well there goes everyone’s tournament favorites down the shitter, looks like it’s BLK OUT all the way now.

Intermission – 15 mins
**Note- I got a hold of a buddy of mine who works for PWG (Can’t say how, but he knows the skinny on most of the stuff) well it appears that the Stacy thing was in the works for a while and a surprise to a lot of the roster. Coincidentally Jade Chung is doing more modeling and her agent happens to be the same one Stacy has and it all kinda snowballed. Trish Stratus is supposed to show up every once in a while when she’s in town for an acting gig and will be like in a “public relations” type role and Stacy will be doing most of the appearances since she’s local. They are supposed to be two other divas involved and it might end up being Lita, Nora Greenwald, or someone else. I guess they’ll end up being at each show a few hours and sign autographs and t-shirts and whatever during intermissions. It hasn’t been decided on if they’ll wrestle or not but I guess Trish and Nora are open to it. My guess is they’ll get a crap load of people to show up just for that alone and hopefully some mainstream exposure. Good deal. Plus…shit, hot chicks at an Indy show? How often does that happen?**

Tag Team Tournament 1st Round-

BLK OUT (Ruckus/Sabian) vs. Irish Airborne (Jack & David Crist)- Good little tag match, not great, but definitely good for the spot hungry PWG crowd. Pretty much what you would expect, spot, spot, rest, spot, spot, rest. Not bad and a good high flying match which lacked really any psychology, but what do you expect. It looked like BLK OUT was going to win when Sabian was setting up for the “Black Jesus Stomp” but Shelly Martinez walked out got, on the apron and flashed him. She wasn’t topless but I shit you not it was the tiniest bra I had ever seen, like two quarters and a rubber band. THANK YOU PWG!! The other Crist sprung up and hit him with a Flux Capacitor type belly to belly suplex for the pinfall. B-Boy came out and Shelly and him left together. I am so confused now because Shelly was a heel in her match but a face here. Eh, I guess they’re separating their women’s and men’s feuds or else…she’s a bitch and the Rottweilers don’t give a damn. I know I wouldn’t. But hey, I got to see skin, so it’s all good. Well looks like my two finals picks are out the door. My money is on MO’z unless AI was signed to a contract recently.

American Dragon Bryan Danielson vs. Teddy Hart- This one is worth the DVD alone. Provided you like shoot fights. Well… it’s hard to tell. The guys fought for 30 or so minutes, it was almost hard to watch at times, given the brutality. Danielson kept throwing knees and strikes and just beating the crap out of Hart while working the midsection, Hart responded in kind with the strikes but worked over Bryan’s knees. Both men bled hardway, Hart’s left eye was swollen and I think Danielson broke his nose. The only negative was the end, a double count out. Hart went for a moonsault, Danielson got the knees up, both men held their body parts and couldn’t respond to a 10 count. Stacy then signed a No DQ, No CO match next show (and probably then a Cage, then a LMS, then an I Quit…). I hope they can make it there in one peice. I really wished we got a pay off here, but it’s obviously a money maker, so they’ll streach it out.

CIMA vs. Ultimo Dragon

Pre-match the ring announcer was given a package by one of the ring crew to give to CIMA. It had “AWF” written on it and inside CIMA took out a shirt that said “AWF” on one side and TNT on the other. Yeah…okay? When Ultimo’s music hit the crowd was on their feet, hadn’t seen that guy in forever, I wonder why he ever left the “e”? Great match with a real Mentor vs Student feel. A lot of feeling out and reversals as it’s clear each man knows the others moves. A few cool spots and close 2 counts. CIMA kicked out of Dragon DDT, Aztec Driver, and an Dragon Tornado (foot on the rope) at different points, then Ultimo kicked out of a Schwein, Iconoclasm, and Perfect Driver/Cross legged Michinoku Driver. It was a fairly long match, probably close to 30 minutes. The finish came when CIMA tried to hit a lung blower in the corner, but Ultimo Dragon held on to the ropes, he hit a series of kicks and then running Lyger Bomb for a close 3. He went for a second rope Asai moonsault and CIMA caught him in mid-air, spun him around and hit a Schwein. He didn’t bother covering, but got right up and hit a mad splash for the pinfall. It was pretty intense the whole match. Ultimo got a “please come back” chant and the dreaded “match of the year”, which I can’t stand. The two stared down and Ultimo offered a handshake and they ended up hugging with CIMA leaving the ring for Ultimo to soak in his standing ovation.

**Note- Then when I got home I read up that AWF thing. Its an Aussie Indy fed and TNT is the Australian Wrestling Federation champion. I guess AWF just so happened to sign a deal with Dragon’s Gate recently so that explains the t-shirt. My buddy told me that a member of AWF just happens to be that stupid Evolution Scheme guy, who writes for 411 with Domingo. Jobs for buddies huh? Ah well, hopefully he won’t suck too bad. It’s like PWG is becoming WCW circa 1999 already. What’s even crazier is that Domingo and Sforcina are co-booking now. Yeah, Pro Wrestling Koala, sounds great.**

PWG World Championship Match

El Generico © vs. Josh Abercrombie- So, this was the main, and it had a lot to live up to and the crowd was already pretty worn out from the previous two matches. Josh came out in a children’s medium sized t-shirt and matching pink fanny pack and hat (classy). It mostly delivered, although I could have done without Josh “accidentally” nailing all the refs, but then it brought out Stacy in a tiny ref shirt and skirt, so maybe it’s not too bad. The first 5 minutes or so of the match was pretty much comedy with the last 20 minutes of so being a lot of good action. Funny spot where after Josh kept stroking his mustache throughout the match and taunting Generico for not having one, Generico lept down to the audience and found a red headed girl and placed her hair under her nose to show he had one. For the most part the match was based around avoiding each other’s finishers like the Half-Nelson Suplex and Taliban Backpack. In the end, Josh got too caught up in trying to show off for Stacy going up to for the Pheonix Splash, and got nailed with the top rope Brainbustaaaaahhhhh!!!!!!!! for the loss. Afterwards, as Generico was looking for his belt, PAC was the one who took it from the ring crew, walked up to the ring and put it on El Generico’s shoulder. Then the two shook hands and that was it. They announced a few of the matches for the show in two weeks. So far it’s:

BLK OUT vs West Coast Rottweilers – 6 man Tag

Irish Airborne vs Muscle Outlaw’z – PWG Tag Title Match

PWG Title Match: PAC vs El Generico ©

“American Dragon” Bryan Danielson vs Teddy Hart in no-count out rematch.

I also would guess they’d probably do a couple more based on angles tonight. Wild night, and the future looks bright. A great way to spend 4 hours if you like wrestling. Now just give me some more Keibler or some Stratusfaction and I’ll be hooked.
