411 ROH Roundtable Preview: Boston & Philadelphia – Death Before Dishonor V – 8/10 & 8/11

August 9, 2007 | Posted by Samuel Berman

Hello loyal readers and welcome to this week’s 411Mania Ring of Honor Roundtable Preview. This time around we’re taking a look at ROH’s upcoming Death Before Dishonor V weekend which will take place Friday and Saturday in Boston and Philadelphia. These shows mark another milestone for Ring of Honor as another of the company’s name-brand events reaches its fifth year. This year’s shows include a pair of Street Fight main events as well as a pair of highly anticipated ROH World Title defenses from Takeshi Morishima. Also, this weekend will feature Sara Del Rey’s first SHIMMER Title defense on an ROH event as well as a true dream match as “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson takes on “Lightning” Mike Quackenbush. Before we get to our predictions, let’s take a look at this week’s contributing 411 staff members:

Larry Csonka, 411Mania Wrestling Zone Editor,

Ari Berenstein, of Column of Honor,

Michael Bauer, of the ECW Recap,

Brad Garoon, of our ROH DVD Review team,

And me, Samuel Berman, of The Independent Mid-Card.

Now that you know who we are, let’s get to our thoughts for this weekend’s events. Cards are current as of Monday, 8/6.

DEATH BEFORE DISHONOR V, NIGHT 1
FRIDAY, AUGUST 10, 2007 – BOSTON, MA

Six Man Mayhem: Delirious vs. Brent Albright vs. Matt Cross vs. Eddie Edwards vs. Pelle Primeau vs. Jigsaw
Larry Csonka: This should be the usual cluster of fun. Albright is getting a title shot and doesn’t need to win, Delirious doesn’t need the win to be over, Edwards; meh, Pelle; meh, Jigsaw would be awesome I think to win, and with Cross getting the shot he needs the win so it comes down to them. I will go wild here.

Winner: Matt Cross

Ari Berenstein: A last minute squeeze everyone else onto the card move, but there are a few new and fresh match ups that present some intrigue. Delirious vs. Albright and Cross vs. Jigsaw should be interesting combinations. Albright has a title match the next night and smart money is always on the challenger for a title to win his or her match the night before.

Winner: Brent Albright

Michael Bauer: Pelle is getting better, but his upset over Whitmer will be the best win he gets all year. Edwards is still not really ready to be put over and Jigsaw would be interesting, but very unlikely. Matt Cross could do it, but his chance for shining comes on Saturday. Brent Albright is the wildcard here. Yes, he does have a title match the next night, but it doesn’t promise a victory. Just look at Morishima. Delirious has pretty much been a king of these types of matches lately and I don’t see anyone in this match that could legitimately stop him.

Winner: Delirious

Brad Garoon: Six Man Mayhems are always tough to call, but in this one a certain someone has the edge. Albright will be challenging for the World title the next night and to lose to anyone else in this match but Delirious would be catastrophic. He’ll get the win.

Winner: Brent Albright

Samuel Berman: Putting Albright over one of the glorified jobbers in this one (read: Pelle or Edwards) wouldn’t be the worst thing going into his match with Morishima. If he doesn’t get the win over one of those guys, then it’s probably Delirious to keep him strong for an eventual AWESOME match with the champ.

Winner: Brent Albright

411 Staff Picks: Brent Albright (3-1-1-0-0-0)

#1 Contender’s Match: Lacey vs. Daizee Haze
Larry Csonka: I like this. While I don’t think the SHIMMER chicks get the time to shine sometimes, and that the regular ROH fans always take to them well, I feel that some SHIMMER appearances are needed for the promotion with the way they run their tapings. So having a #1 contender’s match and then title match the next day is perfect in my opinion. This should be a fun match, but Haze takes it and I shall make myself available to console young Lacey.

Winner: Daizee Haze

Ari Berenstein: The women’s matches have taken a ton of flack lately, some deserved and other times undeservedly so. Lacey, Daizee Haze and Sara Del Rey need to put on the performances of their ROH careers here, but even that might not be good enough to offset some of the more unsavory reactions of the male fans.

Winner: Lacey

Michael Bauer: The blood/perfume feud continues here and this time there is something at stake. Call me old school, but the first SHIMMER defense should be face and heel. Sara is kinda in the middle, but with Sweet N’ Sour, she plays the heel. So that means…

Winner: Daizee Haze

Brad Garoon: I’m a fan of SHIMMER. With that comment out of the way I want to talk about how much I hate that this match is occurring. I keep saying this but these matches can’t get over on ROH main shows and the matches end up making SHIMMER look awful. I’ve been watching a lot of PWG lately (might as well stick a cheap plug for upcoming reviews in here. Look for them in September!) and with the exception of a couple multi-person matches that Sara Del Rey was involved in in 2003 and early 2004 you will NEVER see a woman on their shows. You know why? Because it doesn’t make sense to have women and men on the same show. Argh. Anyhow, Haze wins this because she has a stupid feud with Del Rey in ROH.

Winner: Daizee Haze

Samuel Berman: Yeah, Brad watches way more SHIMMER than I do (not that that’s particularly hard to accomplish), so I’m deferring to him on this one.

Winner: Daizee Haze

411 Staff Picks: Daizee Haze (4-1)

Jack Evans vs. Davey Richards
Larry Csonka: Jack is always fun to watch, but I feel that Davey gets the win here to keep him strong going into the big 6-man the next night. It should be fun with Jack bouncing around while Davey tosses him around and plays catch.

Winner: Davey Richards

Ari Berenstein: It’s a good air vs. ground game match. When I saw them live for Glory By Honor V Night 2, they set the tone with a solid and exciting match. I think they can do the same here.

Winner: Jack Evans

Michael Bauer: Davey Richards needs the win more than Evans, as this match should be for third place of the Race to the Top tourney. But why does Davey need it more? It’s not because of the street fight or whatever the next night. It’s because Jack Evans will always be over and Davey needs to get to that spot.

Winner: Davey Richards

Brad Garoon: Ahh, the match that should have been the finals of the Race to the Top Tournament. I thought Evans should go over there and I think he should go over here. It’s time to start getting him over as a threat so that he can get involved in more important storylines after his feud with Strong is over.

Winner: Jack Evans

Samuel Berman: I’m thinking that Jack needs the win here with the NRC winning elsewhere. Evans’ feud begins and ends with Strong, but a win over Richards tangentially earns him a blowoff match with Roderick later on. Honestly, I’m curious why they didn’t make the Street Fight from Night 2 a 10-man affair and just add Jack to the Resilience side where he belongs. If you’re curious who I would have had on the NRC side, it WOULD have been Jimmy Rave, but then real life (or possibly Project 161) went and interjected itself and now I’m left without a good option. Ok, so maybe it’s good that Evans isn’t in the match. Anyway, he wins here because I root for the little guy.

Winner: Jack Evans

411 Staff Picks: Jack Evans (3-2)

Bryan Danielson vs. Matt Sydal
Larry Csonka: Danielson is the mat technician and Sydal is the rubber man. He will fly about as Danielson uses superior skills to keep him grounded, and eventually stretch the life out of him. Should be a damn fine encounter.

Winner: Bryan Danielson

Ari Berenstein: The match that was supposed to occur two months ago…well, it better actually happen this time or else there will definitely be something to complain about. I don’t think Sydal can topple the momentum of Danielson heading into his title shot on the 25th, but maybe he does enough during the match to impress Danielson into giving him the money he’s owed from the 10 thousand dollar tag challenge.

Winner: Bryan Danielson

Michael Bauer: Bryan Danielson gets a title shot in two weeks, do you think he is losing here?

Winner: Bryan Danielson

Brad Garoon: What’s the deal with Sydal? Does anyone know if he’s considering leaving ROH for TNA? Danielson has a huge title match coming up and Sydal only has being a second fiddle to Hero on the horizon, so this isn’t a tough call. Should be a great match though.

Winner: Bryan Danielson

Samuel Berman: Danielson rarely (if ever) loses in ROH anymore, so I’m clearly not picking Sydal to beat him, especially because I’m going against the grain later on for personal reasons. This should be solid at the least, if only because Danielson’s pretty much guaranteed to put on a solid match with just about anyone. However, I’m not nearly as high on Sydal as most people, so I’m not expecting anything off the charts or anything.

Winner: “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson

411 Staff Picks: “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson (5-0)

Pure Wrestling Rules: Nigel McGuinness vs. Chris Hero
Larry Csonka: This will be a damn fine match, but while Hero loves his CRAVATES McGuinness is the master of Pure Rules.

Winner: Nigel McGuinness

Ari Berenstein: No one knows PURE wrestling rules more than Nigel McGuinness and no one knows how to better bend and break the rules than Chris Hero. Sweet and Sour really needs to come away with a win somewhere along the line in order to keep them up to speed with the rest of the promotion, but I hesitate to go with Hero after being burnt in my Race to the Top picks. How about the rare DQ finish to give Nigel the win?

Winner: Nigel McGuinness by DQ

Michael Bauer: Pure Wrestling Rules puts this match in Nigel’s favor by a ton. And since it looks like Chris Hero won’t be getting that main event push I felt he deserved, looks like Nigel is in line to take down the crown jewel of Sweet N’ Sour Inc.

Winner: Nigel McGuinness

Brad Garoon: I honestly don’t think this feud was so great that it needed to be brought back from the dead. I’m pretty sure they could have found a fresh opponent for Nigel to feud with and have a Pure Wrestling Rules match against. Anywho, hopefully they’ll put it to bed for good with the tag match the following night and just segue to a Hero/Claudio feud straight up.

Winner: Nigel McGuinness

Samuel Berman: I’m holding out hope that ROH finally gets wise on keeping Hero a strong heel, giving him the win here in Nigel’s wheelhouse stipulation match. Hero out-thinking McGuinness in his own match would go a long way to restoring his credibility, even if the victory comes by disqualification or countout. Seriously, is there any heel stable who’s been as ineffective as Sweet ‘n Sour Inc.? The Embassy was NEVER made to look this weak, even in its early days. Remember when Rave got win after win after win after win over AJ and Punk? How about trying THAT, Ring of Honor!

Winner: Chris Hero

411 Staff Picks: Nigel McGuinness (4-1)

Austin Aries & Erick Stevens vs. Roderick Strong & Rocky Romero
Larry Csonka: This will be a war as there is big time hate here. They will do everything to tear each other apart before the next night, and should be a sight to see. The heels get the win here to keep the momentum on their side heading into the 6-man, where I see redemption for the faces.

Winner: Roderick Strong & Rocky Romero

Ari Berenstein: Speaking of teams in need of a win, Aries and Stevens really have to get it here or else all of the wind will be taken out of the sails regarding Aries’ return to ROH.

Winner: Austin Aries and Erick Stevens

Michael Bauer: This match will set the tone for tomorrow night’s showdown for pretty much all the marbles. If you truly believe tomorrow is the bigger match, then the winners here should not win tomorrow night as well. As I believe this is the time for Aries and Company to shine, they should lose here to make the match on Saturday that much more important.

Winners: Roderick and Rocky

Brad Garoon: I enjoy this feud, I really do, but Aries’s absense hurt it beyond repair. He’s back now but going back to where it left off when he was forced out hasn’t done any favors for anyone involved. Evans is wrapping up his feud with Strong soon and hopefully Aries will do the same. I wish they could somehow keep Stevens feuding with Strong solo after all this though.

Winners: Strong and Romero

Samuel Berman: NRC wins this one in a walk to set up a blowoff the next night. Drive through.

Winners: Roderick Strong & Rocky Romero

411 Staff Picks: Roderick Strong & Rocky Romero (4-1)

ROH World Title: Takeshi Morishima © vs. Claudio Castagnoli
Larry Csonka: As much as I dig Double C (Heeeeeeeyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy) I just can’t see him being the one to end Morishima’s run.

Winner: Takeshi Morishima

Ari Berenstein: Claudio has been built up as to having a real solid shot against Morishima, but I don’t see the switch here. Claudio might have won Race to the Top but he could get shot right back down here with a loss…it may be a challenge to keep him hot following this one.

Winner: Takeshi Morishima

Michael Bauer: This should be interesting as Claudio gets the first shot at the champ after winning the Race to the Top tournament. I know New York is salivating over Morishima vs. Danielson and they kinda have been building that up. Sorry Claudio, your time is not now.

Winner: Morishima

Brad Garoon: Claudio looks to be heading towards a feud with Hero and Morishima is on a collision course with Danielson. That makes Claudio’s RTTT win all the more confusing. His first show after winning it he gets a title shot that he undoubtedly lose and then move on to a feud he would have had regardless. I don’t get it so hopefully it’ll play out better than I’m imagining.

Winner: Takeshi Morishima

Samuel Berman: Frankly, I think Claudio should have gotten his title shot on Night 2 so that there would be a little more intrigue, but as it is, he’s not going to win with Albright and Dragon already set up to make title challenges. That said, when James Gibson won the title in 2005, he fought the next night in a tag match where he teamed with a friend whom he would end up feuding with, which is kind of what Nigel could be to Claudio. Not saying it’s going to happen, just that there is a historical parallel there. Anyway, Morishima wins here, but it’s going to be a tougher challenge than he expects, and I fully anticipate Claudio having his real breakout performance here, building on last month’s tournament win.

Winner and STILL ROH World Champion: Takeshi Morishima

411 Staff Picks: Takeshi Morishima (5-0)

Non-Sanctioned Boston Street Fight: Jay & Mark Briscoe vs. Kevin Steen & El Generico
Larry Csonka: I love everything about this feud. These guys are clicking big time and this should be off the charts. STEEN-ERICO pick up the win and add more fuel to the fire in this fun feud.

Winner: Kevin Steen & El Generico

Ari Berenstein: I fully expect these four to go all out and destroy each other. It’s non sanctioned, which means the violence will be that much bigger and they will be that much meaner to each other. It’s my thought that Steen and Generico go over here and in the singles matches in order to be granted the two title shots on 8/24 and 8/25.

Winner: Kevin Steen and El Generico

Michael Bauer: Well, I think this series for August will be off the chain in a big way and a good old Street Fight is a perfect way to start it. If there is one thing that always happens, it is that the Briscoes win tag matches and Steen-Generico win singles matches. I gotta expect that trend to continue through the first weekend.

Winners: The Briscoes

Brad Garoon: Steen and Generico need to stay strong heading into this big series. They’ll destroy the Briscoes here to add drama to the whole thing.

Winners: Steen and Generico

Samuel Berman: I’m with Bauer in that I see the Briscoes winning tag matches while Steen & Generico win the singles contests. This should be awesome, and I cannot wait to see it when it eventually gets released.

Winners: Jay & Mark Briscoe

411 Staff Picks: Kevin Steen & El Generico (3-2)

DEATH BEFORE DISHONOR V, NIGHT 2
SATURDAY, AUGUST 11, 2007 – PHILADELPHIA, PA

Jack Evans vs. Deranged
Larry Csonka: Jack lost night one, in my predictions anyway, so he takes the dominant win here while looking impressive.

Winner: Jack Evans

Ari Berenstein: Talk about reaching back to the olden days of yore… but in a good way. ROH fans get to see how far Deranged has come over the years, well really both men. We may get a sleeper hit here as long as everything is clean and crisp.

Winner: Jack Evans

Michael Bauer: Jack Evans or Deranged? Let me think about this.

Winner: Jack Evans

Brad Garoon: There are so many good wrestlers who aren’t in ROH, so why are they giving second chances to guys who only got over in their home markets to begin with? Give me Scott Lost and show Deranged to the door.

Winner: Jack Evans

Samuel Berman: I’m going to hijack this for a moment to wonder publicly why Deranged is on the main show while Eddie Kingston isn’t. Seriously? Seriously?

Winner: Jack Evans

411 Staff Picks: Jack Evans (5-0)

Claudio Castagnoli & Nigel McGuinness vs. Chris Hero & Jigsaw
Larry Csonka: I do not see Nigel and Double C getting along here. I just cannot see them working that well as a team, which will cost them. Lord knows I would love to see a KOW reunion here, because they rule, but I see Hero and Jigsaw picking up wins after being on the losing end on night one.

Winner: Chris Hero & Jigsaw

Ari Berenstein: LOL at Larry Sweeney for thinking Jigsaw has any info on how to defeat Claudio. Speaking of unlikely teams, Claudio and Nigel were both in a major feud against each other in 2005, but as the saying goes, an enemy of an enemy and all that.

Winner: Claudio & Nigel

Michael Bauer: This match is actually a little surprising to see, especially considering Jigsaw seems so out of place here. Two to one odds that Hero walks out on Jigsaw to continue his heel heat.

Winners: Claudio and Nigel

Brad Garoon: I’m glad Jigsaw is moving out of his dead-end multi-man match spot, but the best thing about this match is that it gives me a chance to think of another “Beer & Girls” themed name for a Nigel McGuinness tag team. I can’t reveal it until I review the show of course. I see Hero going over Claudio here to segue the feud away from Nigel and towards the Most Money Making Man.

Winners: Hero & Jigsaw

Samuel Berman: Yeah, I can’t really see the faces going over here (and, when exactly did Jigsaw turn heel?), mostly because it doesn’t help advance anything. How about Jigsaw takes advantage of a Hero chairshot (or something similar) to roll up Claudio for the upset? That sounds decent enough.

Winners: Chris Hero & Jigsaw

411 Staff Picks: Chris Hero & Jigsaw (3-2)

Lights Out Match: Jay Briscoe vs. Kevin Steen
Larry Csonka: Jay Briscoe will be looking for revenge here, but I feel that Steen needs the win to keep adding to the feud.

Winner: Kevin Steen

Ari Berenstein: I still don’t know exactly what the stips are for this match…does one have to find the light switch in the arena and turn it off? Well, how many Briscoes does it take to screw in a light bulb?

Winner: Kevin Steen

Michael Bauer: Like I said before, when it comes to the singles matches, Steen and Generico seem to have the advantage, which makes sense. I think the best way for this whole thing to go down is for Steen and Generico to win the singles bouts and pick up the tag team victory on 8/24 in a non title match to get a shot on 8/25 in New York City.

Winner: Kevin Steen

Brad Garoon: I really hope that this is a Last Man Standing match as some have said and not a blindfold match. In either case Steen is the powerhouse of his team and he’ll get the win.

Winner: Kevin Steen

Samuel Berman: What the hell is a ‘Lights Out Match’? Whatever it is, I fully expect Steen to win here, going along with my “Briscoes win tag matches, but lose singles contests” theory. Jay is vastly underrated as a solo competitor, but the challengers need wins at some point, so here’s a good place to give them one.

Winner: Kevin Steen

411 Staff Picks: Kevin Steen (5-0)

Falls Count Anywhere: Mark Briscoe vs. El Generico
Larry Csonka: Mark Briscoe will be looking for revenge after the night one loss, and this is where he will get a small measure of redemption.

Winner: Mark Briscoe and his Doctor

Ari Berenstein: All I know is that Mark Briscoe will SSP himself off of something tall. Should be fun.

Winner: El Generico

Michael Bauer: Mark Briscoe + Tall Objects = HOLY SHIT!!! We will see that and I pray to anything that he doesn’t kill himself doing it.

Winner: El Generico

Brad Garoon: When feuding teams have singles matches they usually split wins. Steen will go over Jay and the sympathetic Mark will defeat Generico, despite how fast the masked man is climbing the ranks in ROH.

Winner: Mark Briscoe

Samuel Berman: See above. The story remains the same. Oh, and I really like Generico and hope Mark reigns himself in enough to put on a good match rather than a crazy spotfest. How cool would it be for these guys to defy expectations to put on a 15-minute mat classic instead of just bouncing around everywhere and diving into the crowd? I know I’d love it.

Winner: El Generico

411 Staff Picks: El Generico (3-2)

SHIMMER Title: Sara Del Rey © vs. Haze/Lacey Winner from 8/10
Larry Csonka: Daizee Haze I have winning night one to make this SHIMMER title match. A good match to be sure, but of course, I cannot see a title change here in ROH.

Winner: Sara Del Rey

Ari Berenstein: Del Rey is awesome in the ring. She and Lacey had some tremendous matches already involving the SHIMMER title. I expect this to be another one in the series.

Winner: Sara Del Rey

Michael Bauer: I’m going with Haze to get the shot, but like the Full Impact Pro Title, I don’t expect SHIMMER to have the belt change hands on a Ring of Honor show.

Winner: Sara Del Rey

Brad Garoon: I see this being Deathray vs. Haze to blow off their insipid feud. Nothing else to say except the first SHIMMER title change won’t happen in the same company that the first FIP title change happened.

Winner: Sara Del Rey

Samuel Berman: I have Haze as the challenger, and I’ll echo the ‘other titles won’t change hands on an ROH show’ sentiments that have been well-documented above.

Winner and STILL SHIMMER Champion: Sara Del Rey

411 Staff Picks: Sara Del Rey (5-0)

Bryan Danielson vs. Mike Quackenbush
Larry Csonka: Danielson should be coming off of the Sydal win from the night before. But Quackenbush is a different kind of beast. This is a match I really want to see, and I will go out on a limb and give QUACK the big win here, oh yes.

Winner: Mike Quackenbush

Ari Berenstein: I love Dragon and I love Quack…hey, it’s called inter-species erotica. Don’t judge. I expect great things from this match, some say MOTYC and I would probably agree with them on paper. We’ll see if it can get there in the ring.

Winner: Bryan Danielson

Michael Bauer: Let me repeat what I said before: Bryan Danielson gets a title shot in two weeks, do you think he is losing here? Granted, this match will be something else.

Winner: Bryan Danielson

Brad Garoon: I sadly haven’t seen much of Quackenbush so I can’t comment too much here except to say that he’ll probably put up a good fight in a good match, but Danielson isn’t losing before he takes on the champion.

Winner: Bryan Danielson

Samuel Berman: Danielson has his title shot, but a win for Quackenbush here will immediately establish him as a main event player, which is SORELY needed right now. I know that everyone loves the ROH roster, but just throwing in Morishima, Danielson, Nigel and whoever’s in from Japan this week and then just mixing it up every show actually doesn’t appeal to everyone. Quackenbush, though short in stature, has the name recognition and reputation that allow him to mix in with the top talent as an equal, which is something ROH should take advantage of before the honeymoon is over. I really won’t know what to say if they blow it with Quack the same way they have thus far with Hero.

Winner: “Lightning” Mike Quackenbush

411 Staff Picks: “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson (3-2)

ROH World Title: Takeshi Morishima © vs. Brent Albright
Larry Csonka: As much as a I dig Albright, and I really do thing he has some great potential for the top of the card down the line, I just can’t see him being the one to end Morishima’s run right now.

Winner: Takeshi Morishima

Ari Berenstein: The focus of the ROH World title build has not been on Brent Albright, which given past ROH history is NOT an indication that Albright will lose, but rather that he has a real shot at winning the title. Just ask Austin Aries, whose title win many did not see happening until his arms were raised in victory. However, I don’t think Albright gets the title just yet, because Morishima and Danielson have a date with destiny in NYC.

Winner: Takeshi Morishima

Michael Bauer: If it ain’t Claudio’s time, how the fuck does Albright stand a chance?

Winner: Morishima

Brad Garoon: Like I said before, Morishima is the road to the Dragon and Albright has even less to look forward to than Claudio. No-brainer.

Winner: Takeshi Morishima

Samuel Berman: I’m so uninterested in Albright at this point that it’s laughable. And remember, I was a loyal OVW watcher during his fantastic feud with Punk and Doane and his really great heel turn and Heavyweight Title run, so if I’m jumping ship how far from the pack have they strayed? Hopefully, this doesn’t turn into a dumb “power match” as both guys can do way more interesting stuff than trading lariats and forearms for twenty minutes. If Albright wants to reassert his technical skills, this would be the perfect opportunity for it. How about pulling out the diving headbutt or the Rolling Germans or building up to the Crowbar, big guy? In the end, though, does it really matter? Morishima in a walk.

Winner and STILL ROH World Champion: Takeshi Morishima

411 Staff Picks: Takeshi Morishima (5-0)

Non-Sanctioned Philadelphia Street Fight: Roderick Strong, Davey Richards, Rocky Romero & Matt Sydal vs. Austin Aries, Erick Stevens, Matt Cross & Delirious
Larry Csonka: This will be pure, unadulterated bedlam the likes of the old ECW here in Philly. Aries and his boys will get the win, but Strong will escape Aries yet again, leading to the huge blow off.

Winner: Austin Aries, Erick Stevens, Matt Cross & Delirious

Ari Berenstein: This is the grand stand for The Resilience. If they can’t topple the NRC here, they might as well just go on home and not come back. Aries has been waiting for this moment for months now…he has the opportunity to lead men to victory, now he just has to seize the moment. HOWEVER, there may be other factors at play here, forces at work that neither the NRC or Resilience are aware of. Death Before Dishonor always has big unforgettable moments that change the course of ROH history. Is this one of them? Will we see whatever “Project 161” is about make its debut here or elsewhere on the card?

Winner: The Resilience

Michael Bauer: If Aries and his crew can’t win here, then there is no hope form them at all. This feud should not be over yet and Aries picks up his first huge win since coming back to the Ring of Honor.

Winner: Aries and Company

Brad Garoon: I haven’t heard whether there will be more matches between the Resilience plus Delirious and the No Remorse Corp after this match, so lets assume this is the big blow off. The babyfaces go over here and everyone finds something else to do. Such a promising feud, destroyed completely by TNA’s nonsense. To be fair I’m actually glad that Homicide, Daniels and Joe left and opened up spots for younger guys, but this angle really did take a big hit from Aries’s brief absence.

Winners: The Resilience & Delirious

Samuel Berman: I’m pretty much on board with Brad’s comments, right down to being alright with Daniels, Homicide and Joe having left the promotion (as off-topic as that is). I think this is the group blowoff to the Resilience-NRC feud, with the only major item left to deal with being the final Aries vs. Strong singles contest. Hopefully they’ll give Aries the pinfall win here and Strong will be outraged, leading to him challenging Aries to an Ironman Match or something in New York City in a couple of weeks to put this all to rest for good. Hopefully Sydal’s involvement will allow the Resilience to segue into a feud with Sweet ‘n Sour Inc. while the NRC goes on to feud with the CHIKARA guys or something. Oh, and wasn’t this feud begging for Steel Cage Warfare what with all the Generation Next involvement and such? Whatever. Match should be fantastic, by the way, despite my many gripes about booking.

Winners: Austin Aries, Erick Stevens, Matt Cross & Delirious

411 Staff Picks: Austin Aries, Erick Stevens, Matt Cross & Delirious (5-0)
