Writer’s Notes

No fancy intro this week. I doubt anyone opens these things up for my notes here.

Go sign up for Stablewars Bound For Glory Play-Per-View. 411 OWNED No Mercy. Don’t you want to prove you’re better than us writers?

I have to fill some space here before the banner, to the SHIMMER Forums: A) You may be misinterpreting an average start for being something terrible. The first few matches were hardly spectacular, you must admit. And for a new niche company starting off, not the best way to begin, yes? B) I resent the implication that I don’t proof read. I will admit to inventing the odd word here and there (‘Bonker’ I’m sure is not classical English) but I fail to see how that can be construed as not proof reading. Not having respect for the English Language, yes. Not proof reading, no. Any mistakes with performers names I apologize for, although I’m going on Wikipedia, Online World Of Wrestling and Dunn in roughly that order for the spelling, so yeah. And I know I’m not a journalist. I’m just some shmuck with a gimmick who is worth a few more readers than the trouble I cause my bosses.

Heck, it’s no ‘Dunn V The ROH Forums’, but it’s a start.

When we abruptly left off last time, I had done the first 2 shows. Now onto the rest of the shows.

No more comedy here. No-one's noticing.

Phase 3- Updates? Already?

SHIMMER was only 1 taping old, but it was already getting noticed. Krissy Vaine and Beth Phoenix both got signed up by the WWE after their appearances in SHIMMER, starting a trend that continues to this day of a slight revolving door or talent. Although at this stage it wasn’t a revolving door, just a couple of gaps to be filled.

Although at first the show had faces from the first couple of shows, with Nikki Roxx beating Rain and Cindy Rogers taking out Amber O’Neal and then Tiana Ringer to win a Elimination Triple Threat single handedly.

Then we got a couple of debuts, with Lorelei Lee upsetting the much more experienced Malia Hosaka, which lead to a beatdown by Malia and Lexie Fyfe, and then a save by Rogers.

And then things got slightly more interesting.

Fyfe hung around, since she had a match against MsChif. And MsChif was coming off a win over Cheerleader Melissa back in #1, so naturally she came out to observe. And, naturally, she intgerfered and gave Fyfe the win, thus proving that Cheerleaders are evil and… whatever MsChif is are good. Although that’s just in morality, since Melissa proved that she was pretty darn good in the ring in the following match, a long brawl with Shantelle Taylor that saw the Cheery one win with a Schwein, a move I’ve seen live and still find scary in a good way.

And then came Show #3’s definging moment, as Allison Danger had the honor of taking on Rebecca Knox in her debut in the company. And after a good, solid wrestling match, Knox blew her ankle out. Allison, out of respect, opened the ropes as the trainers helped the Irishwoman out of the ring.

And, of course, she revealed her trickery and booted her boss right in the face. Allison tried to recover but couldn’t, Knox getting the win and a lot of attention on her, but not in a great way.

There was a main event, and it was a great match, featuring Sara Del Rey defeating Daizee Haze as payback for all of Haze’s in-the-way-getting, and a ref kip up. And the match was used by both women to lay in challenges for the next show (Sara V Mercedes Martinez in a No Time Limit match, Haze V Knox since she hated cheaters), but mostly the show will be remembered for Knox being a bitch.

In a good way.

Phase 4- Melissa V MsChif. Falls Count Anywhere. Oh yeah.

Another show took place and while, like it’s partner a few hours before, it had several matches on it, one (maybe two if you didn’t like the title match) really sticks out.

Not many people remember this show for Nikki Roxx (who was slowly changing into the woman in TNA right now) beating Amber O’Neal. Nor for Shantelle Taylor beating Ann Brookstone in Brookstone’s sole appearance in SHIMMER. Malia and Lexie, calling themselves ‘The Experience’, beating Lee and Rodgers? Nope, doesn’t ring a bell much. Allison Danger moving past Knox’s attitude and beating Tiana was good, but unmemorable.

The main event was a superb match, featuring Daizee Haze taking on Rebecca Knox, with the finkle hand of Irony striking Knox, as she got too cocky and at a crucial moment suffered a foot injury, leading to Haze to take over and win the match to teach the Irish Lass a lesson.

Don’t fake an injury you can’t work through.

But while that was a great match, it’s the penultimate one that most people remember, as Cheerleader Melissa and MsChif had a Falls Count Anywhere match to determine who was really the better comepditor. And for nearly half an hour, the two women used the arena in every possible way, using the ring, the stage, trolleys, chairs, stairs and even their own opponent’s body to iflict damage, with the finish being, get this- Melissa got MsChif in an inverted cloverleaf, and then put a chair on MsChif’s head, then forced MsChif to stomp the chair into her own head repedadly until she tapped out.

That’s an ‘Ow’ on half a dozen levels right there.

Any doubts that SHIMMER wouldn’t last were answered at this point, and it was only a matter of time until the next show. Obviously.

Phase 5- KONG! Sure, Knox/Haze 2/3 Falls, Del Rey/Mercedes and Nikia, but really… KONG!

#5 had a lot of interesting delveopments in it. Rain got back to her winning form, pinning Ms. Lee. MsChif also got back onto the right side of the Win-Loss column with a win over Cindy Rodgers. One of 4 debuts in the company came next, with Serena Deeb getting screwed by Amber O’Neal.

Uh, that is, she lost to O’Neal thanks to a handful of tights and some bad refereeing. Yeah.

The Experience, clearly engaged in extreme long term planning, again proved their dominace in tag team situations when they defeated Ariel and Josie, a local gal making her debut. The Experience, even at this early stage, appeared to be THE tag team in SHIMMER.

Allison Danger then stepped away from the announce booth to step into the ring as she fought the best her company had to offer, in this case Cheerleader Melissa. But unfortuantly MsChif had to come down and root on Danger. Sure, this gave Danger the win when Melissa got distracted, but it didn’t give Allison the competition she desired or deserved, and it just made MsChif and Melissa that much more pissed off at each other, forcing another violent match between the two, a Last Woman Standing match for Volume 6.

Then came Amazing Kong, set to face, sorry, destroy poor Nikki Roxx. And that she did, Roxx providing more of a fight that you might expect, but Kong was not to be denied.

Nikita (Katie Lea Burchill going undercover) was the final debut of the evening, getting the win over Lacey and proving that English Women = American Women.

Apart from Kong, obviously.

And then Knox and Haze had their 2 out of 3 falls match, and it was another superb outing. And sure, Daizee won the first fall clean as a whistle, and sure, Rebecca had to cheat to win, using the ropes twice to get the 2 straight falls needed for her to win, but a win is a win is a win, and Knox proved a point that night.

That she was a lying, manipulative bitch.

Allison Danger then decided to teach Knox a lesson, and made a match for the next show, herself and Knox in an ROH style Pure Wrestling match, since Knox loved to use the ropes so damm much.

The main event was a rematch from #1, where Sara Del Rey took on Mercedes Martinez, with the clock thrown out to avoid a repeat of what happened the first time around. And this time, there was a winner, as Del Rey counted a Mr. Salty into a cover and got the win. The two women however gained each others respect, and when Lacey, on behalf of herself and her partner in the Minnesota Home-Wrecking Crew, Rain, challenged Mercedes to a tag match, Del Rey overheard and offered her services as a partner, much to Lacey’s annoyance.

Phase 6- Proving Points.

SHIMMER Volume 6 was a show that saw most matches go how you would expect, except a couple of key ones.

Serena got a rematch with O’Neal, and this time she learnt from her mistakes and got the win over the blonde bombshell. That was understandable.

Ariel and Josie got a third partner in Cindy Rodgers to take on The Experience and Amazing Kong, who unsurprisingly steamrolled over their opponents, the veterans and the Kong proving far, far too much.

Lorelei Lee vs. Nikki Roxx could have gone either way, but Roxx bouncing back after the beatdown she suffered the last time was too much for the cowgirl.

And the smoking hippie Daizee Haze was able to defeat the increasingly frustrated Nikita, who dropped the “I just wanna prove myself” mentality in order to try and beat the SHIMMER stalwart.

But then came Knox and Danger in a Pure Wrestling match. 20-count on the floor, only three rope breaks per person, and closed fists were frowned upon (1st: Warning. 2nd: 1 Rope Break. 3rd: DQ). And while you expected Knox to be at home with free use of the ropes to maim and inflict pain, the end was not a submission with the ropes. It didn’t use the ropes at all, as Knox reversed a crossbody and pinned Allison in the dead center of the ring, 1,2,3. Thus, for all of Danger’s anger and frustration at how Rebecca was welcomed into SHIMMER with open arms and then spat at the company, she couldn’t get the job done, even when she made the rules. A dissapoinement for her, to be sure, to be sure.

The Minnesota Home Wrecking Crew then proved that this wasn’t the WWE, as a well-oiled tag team was able to defeat two bigger name single’s comeditors. Del Rey and Mercedes did know each other quite well, but clearly were not on quite the same page. Their opponets, on the other hand, were on the same letter, and were able to capitlise on their opponents hitting each other to get the win.

Finally though, the two women who truly hated each other, MsChif and Cheerleader Melissa, fought one last time. The two had fought on practically every SHIMMER show, and had brawled in ROH as well. The time had come to settle their differences, and that they did, hitting and slamming and bending each other in ways that were not meant to be, and finally, using a chair to nail her Desecrator on, MsChif pulled out the victory, answering the 10 count to prove herself truly the better woman. And in SHIMMER, once you prove yourself the better woman, you tend to form a team afterwards. And what do you know…
