Ring of Honor Wrestling on HDNet recapped by Michael Ornelas.
Episode 92: The Interracial Best Buddy Duos Collide!

Hey everyone, lots of homework tonight, so this will be a pretty basic report. At least I’m doing it on time this week!

We open with a video recapping the Cornette/Homicide 2006 feud.

Video package where Cole and O’Reilly give their thoughts on the other teams in Ring of Honor.

Video package about the Bravados. I hope they go away after that…

Match #1: Kyle O’Reilly & Adam Cole vs. Harlem & Lance Bravado

Cole and Lance Bravado start the match. Bravado gets a shoulder block and then Cole gets an armdrag. A second armdrag. Tag to O’Reilly and he dominates. Armdrag/armbar combo. Tag to Cole. Lance tags out and Harlem gets a dropkick on Cole for 1. Eventually, O’Reilly gets tagged in and the hit a double elbow for 2. Tag back to Cole. Irish Whip on Cole, Harlem eats a boot, but he pulls Cole off the 2nd rope. 2 count. Tag to Lance. Suplex gets 2. Another Bravado tag. Double vertical suplex gets 2. Cole fights for control but is stopped by Harlem. Tag to Lance. Shoulder tackles in the corner. Cole starts fighting out with forearms. Runs into a tilt-a-whirl back breaker. Lance gets 2. Tag to Harlem. Jumping elbow to the back of Cole. Cole fights out of the turnbuckle and gets a flying kick. Now’s as good a time as any to get the tag. Hot tag to O’Reilly who ducks Harlem and big boots Lance off the apron. Kicking combo and a leg sweep to Harlem. Ducks a clothesline from Lance and gets a big kick. Double dropkick to the two Bravados! “O’Reilly” says Louisville. Combo of Butterfly suplexes! 1…2…no!! Tag to Cole. Combo move ends in Buzzsaw kicks to the head! 1…2…no! The other Bravado is in. Cool looking enziguiri move. Bridging German but Cole kicks out. O’Reilly tagged in. Superkick and a lariat gets 2 on Lance. Tag back to Cole. “This is awesome”. I don’t know about that, but it’s good. Harlem knocks O’Reilly off the top rope. Roll-up from Lance after Harlem tripped the leg and Cole eats a 3 count!

Result: The Bravados via pinfall @ about 9:00.
Rating: **3/4
My thoughts: The crowd overrated this HOWEVER it was a really good showing for both teams. Cole and O’Reilly are rising stars, regardless of the loss. The problem is that I don’t think the Bravados are elevated very much with a roll-up win. They should be able to beat a rookie team.

Recap from MsChif’s attack on Haze last week.

Promo time with MsChif. MsChif is here to dominate since Haze and Del Rey complain about the lack of competition. Unbelievably cheesy promo…

Homicide makes his way out to Cornette. Cornette says their past is water under the bridge. Homicide says he doesn’t want to hear from him. He knows Cornette doesn’t like him and he doesn’t like Corny either. Homicide came here just to be champion. No one’s going to stop him, Cornette, comprende amigo? “I comprende.” Haha. Homicide has gone through all the competition to be number one contender, so he will get a shot at the 9th Anniversary Show. Cornette is complimenting him but Homicide isn’t buying it. Doesn’t really make sense…but Homicide says he’ll be two time campeon to send us to commercial. That was…kind of stupid. Homicide sounded like he didn’t actually hear a word of what Cornette said, because it was all complementary. He did say he’ll face anyone that Cornette wants though.

Match #2: Homicide vs. Oryan Bishop

Back from commercial with a match starting quickly. Homicide is in control immediately and plays dirty. Eye gouge in the ropes broken at 4. 10 punches in the corner, but instead of the last punch, he bites him. Leaping back elbow gets 1.5. Eventually Bishop gets Homicide with a suplex. He goes for a 2nd rope splash but Homicide moves. Ace Crusher avoided, clothesline blocked, Ace Crusher hits and that’s it.

Result: Homicide via pinfall @ about 3:30.
Rating: 1/2*
My thoughts: Homicide is still undefeated, but he completely squashed Bishop. Bishop didn’t look very good, but he didn’t really have any chance to shine. I guess the match was solidly performed, but when you’re performing a weak match, it doesn’t really matter that much.

Replay of the WGTT interview from a few weeks back. This is followed by a package in which All Night Express give their thoughts on the WGTT.

Daniels video package. He can still perform at the top level regardless of his age. Compares himself to Randy Couture. Time takes away from him physically, but experience gives it back mentally. He performs under pressure. This run in Ring of Honor is his opportunity to show the world how good Christopher Daniels really is. Good promo.

Next week: Christopher Daniels challenges Eddie Edwards for the TV title.

Durden’s with Eddie Edwards. He gives him props, but Eddie has done something Daniels never has. He’s held singles gold in Ring of Honor. He wants to face the best. Next week, the hunt is on. Mike Bennett comes up after and mocks Eddie. He says he’s going to take the belt real soon.

Match #3: Rhett Titus & Kenny King vs. Charlie Haas & Shelton Benjamin

It’s time for your main event. The battle of the best interracial best friend teams in wrestling these days. Nice pop for the World’s Greatest Tag Team. The bell rings and the Code of Honor is followed. King and Shelton start the match. Benjamin has a headlock which King turns into a waistlock. Headlock takedown from King and Shelton kips up. Face-off and applause. “Shelton” chant. Big shoulder block from King. Armlock from Shelton but King turns it into an armlock takeover of his own. Back up. Shoulder block from Shelton. King leapfrogs Shelton and gets slapped in the face. Clothesline from Benjamin. Tag to Haas. First tag at 3:20. Haas starts to take the arm to task and gets some bars, holds, and takeovers. King powers Haas to his corner and tags Rhett. Dragon screw leg whip on Titus and Haas starts with the kicks on it. Tag to Shelton. Benjamin jumps in and drops all his weight on the leg of Rhett. King cheapshots Shelton and Rhett takes advantage. 2 count on Benjamin. Tag to Kenny. Rope-assisted armlock. Arm guillotine over the top rope from King. 2 count. Knees to the left arm of Shelton. 1 count. Keylock as they get up to their feet. Shelton punches out, but King hits a shot before tagging Rhett. Leg drop on the shoulder of Shelton gets 2. Keylock from Rhett. “Let’s go Shelton” chant. Another tag for the Express. King whips Titus into Shelton. Rhett hits a forearm and sends Shelton into a big clothesline from King. Shelton eventually fights back and they exchange shots. Shelton gets a kick caught by King, but he gets a Dragon Whip back kick! Tag to Charlie who dominates the All Night Express. Belly to belly suplex on King gets 2. Rhett hits an axe handle on the back of Rhett. Haas throws him out of the ring. Powerslam on King! 1….2….no! Shoulder up from King. Chin breaker on Charlie. Tag to Rhett. Double Irish Whip. They go for a team move but Shelton is in and catches a running King. Double German Suplexes! 1….2….no! Rhett kicks out! Shelton gets a hurracanrana to the outside from King. Haas goes for the Haas of Pain on Rhett but King springboards in and clotheslines Haas in midair. The Kings of Wrestling are out! They take out Kenny King on the outside! The WGTT is in the ring with Rhett and gets their signature leapfrog axe handle on Rhett. German suplex on Rhett by Haas and he bridges for the pin. 1….2….3!

Result: Charlie Haas & Shelton Benjamin via pinfall @ about 12:00.
Rating: ***1/2
My thoughts: A little short, but a great match. I’d love to see the two teams get more time with each other. King and Titus have arrived. They hung in there every step of the way. I’m loving the evolution of Titus’ character as he’s no longer as goofy. I buy it. Haas and Benjamin haven’t lost a step as a team and I’d recommend trying to see this match if possible. The ANX was protected in their loss with the Kings of Wrestling getting involved. It also allows them to transition the focus towards the 9th Anniversary Tag Team championship match in a few weeks.

Closing thoughts: The main event is the only thing that’s firmly good. The Homicide stuff didn’t really make much logical sense, and the match he had wasn’t very good either. The Bravados impressed me in the opening match and I really like Cole and O’Reilly. The video package about the Bravados was horrible though (as was MsChif’s promo. It’s called an acting class…) more because of their characters than their delivery. Next week should be a good show with the Daniels/Edwards TV title match.
