411’s CHIKARA High Noon Review 11.13.11

– Welcome to 411’s live blog for the CHIKARA High Noon PPV. For a full preview of the event or for something to get you up to snuff on the CHIKARA product, check out KEVIN FORD’S CHIKARA SPECIAL!

This will not be the traditional play by play that I would normally do for a PPV. This is mostly because I am watching for fun, and also because I have to cover the TNA Turning Point PPV tonight when this show concludes. I will provide the winners, loses and some thoughts on the matches and angles as the show goes along. Thanks for joining 411 for out LIVE CHIKARA High Noon Blog!

U-STREAM PRE-MATCH A GO GO – El Generico vs. Jigsaw: CHIKARA offered a free pre-show match via U-stream, which featured Gernico and Jigsaw. I think that free pre-show matches like this should be something that would entice someone to buy a PPV, and this was a good example of that. This was a very good and fun back and forth match, which saw Jigsaw use the coast to coast dropkick (Van terminator) for a very close near fall. Jigsaw got the duke @9:00 with the double foot stomp from the top rope. Generico was very over.

-Gavin Loudspeaker welcomed us to the show, and today we kick off with some tag team action…

-I know that my feed is a bit behind, I am on the ROKU box. Also, the feed has hiccupped a few times already. I know before hand the company was worried about bandwidth issues for the show.

WHO WILL CAPTURE THE CRUCIAL 3RD POINT? – The Young Bucks vs. The Colony (Fire Ant & Soldier Ant): No handshake to begin, go figure. Marty Jannetty accompanied the Bucks to the ring. Due to the feed skipping, we cut ahead into the match, joined in progress if you will. For those wondering what the points mean, for a CHIKARA tag team to get a title shot, they must get three points, but winning three consecutive tag team matches to get a shot at the company’s tag team titles, or, as they call them the campeones de parejas. Due to the feed cut and jump, I am not sure how exactly long the first match went, but it was around 20-minutes. At one point the Bucks used a sick double team tombstone on Fire Ant for the best near fall of the bout. Soldier Ant was able to counter the More bang for your Buck and roll up Matt Jackson for the victory. A hell of an opener, and the Colony can now challenge FIST for the campeones de parejas. ****

INTERGENDER SHOWDOWN! – Sara Del Rey vs. Jakob Hammermeier: Sara Del Rey is coming off of the big win at CIBERNETOCO last night, and looking to continue her roll through her former stable, the BDK. Jakob is a great chicken shit heel, and his gimmick and character work is great. Del Rey is flat out an excellent wrestler. Simple and smooth match, with Jakob getting some traditional heel offense in, with the cheating, but Del Rey took the match in about 5:00 via pin with the royal butterfly. **

We get a video that says MR. TOUCHDOWN is coming to CHIKARA!

THE FUTURE OF THE OSIRIAN PORTAL IS REVEALED: Amasis made his return to CHIKARA, and came to the ring with Ophidian. Amasis had to retire due to injury, and Ophidian has been on a losing streak for some time. Tonight they reveal their future as a team. Amasis took the mic, thanked the fans and said hew would not be returning to wrestling, on the advice of his doctors. He got a please don’t go chant as he spoke about the accomplishment of the team. Amasis and Ophidian then looked to do one last dance for the crowd and OPHIDIAN TURNED HEEL AND SPIT MIST in the eyes of Amasis. After a short beat down, referees made the save, only for Ophidian to continue the attack with the clutch. He then took the mask of Amasis and said that that the problem was solved. I discussed that they may do this on the Podcast as I felt that a few heel turns could happen at the show.

THE BIG GRUDGE MATCH! – Green Ant vs. Tursas: This is a feud that has been going on for a long time. Tursas has been a thorn in the side of the Colony and Green Ant since they debuted, and have been battling on and off. Green Ant actually body slammed the big man back at the King of Trios event. In the opening moments we had a ref bump, and when that happened Green Ant took control and could have won, but the new ref did not come out soon enough. The referee was chosen by Tursas, so he odds appeared to be even as the Colony appeared to take out the bumped ref and the match continued. Green Ant fought back after Tursas had control, SLAMMED Tursas on the floor and then hit a big splash from the top rope to the floor as the crow chanted please don’t die. Tursas looked to have the win after the splash mountain toss, but Green Ant kicked out for a great near fall. After a superplex, Green Ant locked in a new version of the CHIKARA special for the submission victory @ 13:00. **¾

-There are 800 in attendance today at the old ECW Arena.

-At this time we had intermission. The intermission featured interviews with the CHIKARA roster, discussing what Quackenbush and Kingston need to do to win the GRAND CHAMPIONSHIP tonight. They then aired a FUCKING AWESOME video on Mike Quackenbush, discussing his career and path to the title. Very well done. They then followed it up with another great video package, for Eddie Kingston. This was a very efficient use intermission time.

REMATCH FROM KING OF TRIOS! – Colt Cabana vs. Archibald Peck (w/ Veronica & Colt Cabunny): MARCHING FUCKING ARCHIE FOR THE WIN! The guy is so spectacular in what he does. Archie makes an ass out of himself several times early on as he tries, and fails attacking Colt. Lots of comedy early on as expected, Archie is such a fun heel that his reactions and the crowd’s reactions to that really make the comedy go a long way. This of course led to Peck wanting Cabunny to attack Cabana, but Cabunny turned on Peck and helped Cabana win. This was fun post intermission stuff, not a “great match” wrestling wise. Cabana won @ 12:00 via pin. Cabana and Cabunny hugged and danced post match. **

UNFINISHED BUSINESS! – Gregory Iron vs. Icarus: Greg Iron is the wrestler that suffers from cerebral palsy, and was put over by CM Punk during his “time off from WWE this summer. Iron had a Sports Illustrated article done on him, and appeared on Fox News this morning. Icarus has a gigantic and horrible back tattoo and the crowd constantly gives him shit for it. Many of the crowd has “Worst in the World” shirts, just for Icarus. Icarus controlled most of the match, using heel tactics, including his loaded fanny pack. Great wrestling weapon there. The match was obviously here to tell the story of Icarus being a bully and an asshole, and Iron being resilient and fighting through the hate and his handicap to be victorious. Well, he wasn’t because Icarus used a low blow and the Blu-Ray for the victory. It’s a fine story, just not a great match. Icarus won via pin @12:00. ** As Icarus started to whip Iron, Gran Akuama returned. He tried to kick Icarus in the head, but Icarus bailed and Akuma accidentally laid out Iron.

MASK/MASK vs. EYE OF TYR/HAIR in a NO DQ TAG WAR! – UltraMantis Black and Hallowicked vs. Ares and Tim Donst: If UltraMantis Black or Hallowicked, they will be unmasked. The match is no DQ, which is rare in CHIKARA, but makes perfect sense due to the feud. If Ares loses, he will give up the eye of TYR, of Donst loses, he will be shaved bald. This is another match based off of a long time feud. Hallowicked was once partners with Delirious, who is now under control of the BDK. Ares stole the “Eye of TRY” from Ultramantis Black, which gave him control of Delirious. Hallowicked has changed from the baggy pants to tight tights, which makes him appear to be wrestling in skinny jeans. I do not approve of this. Jakob got involved, but Crossbones made the save for the faces. They used chairs, the ring bell and brawled around the ringside area. Not wild or over the top, which was slightly disappointing considering the magnitude of the feud. The finish saw Tim Donst WALK AWAY and Ultramantis Black pin Ares to win and retrieve the Eye of TYR @15:00. This also continues the slow disintegration of the BDK stable, which has been well done. Jakob came out to help Ares to the back, and it appears he and Tursus may be his only supporters left. ***

-Bryce Remsberg comes to the ring with the CHIKARA GRAND CHAMPIONSHIP.

-The 12 Large Tournament all led to this, the season 10 finale, and the company’s first iPPV.

TO CROWN THE FIRST EVER GRAND CHAMPION OF CHIKARA! – Eddie Kingston w/Tommy Dreamer vs. Mike Quackenbush: CHIKARA started in 2002, and while they have had he King of Trios, the Young Lions Cup Champion and the campeones de parejas, they have never had a proper singles champion. Tonight that changes. This is for the title, this is teacher vs. student, this is your main event. Jigsaw is in the corner of Quackenbush, while Tommy Dreamer is in the corner of Kingston. It should be noted that they have played up that Kingston has an injured knee (partially torn MCL) going into the match. Quack attacked the knee early, which automatically made him the heel to the Philly crowd. During the match, much of the CHIKARA roster came to the ring and surrounded it to watch the match. I personally loved that as it added to the culmination of the tournament and the importance of the first ever singles title match. Also people from CHIKARA’s past like Reckless Youth were out there. Quack controlled a lot of the bout, using his wrestling and working on the knee and some questionable tactics to maintain his control. Kingston was able to start working Quack’s knee, using the backfist the future on it while Quack was on the top rope. Following a sick backdrop driver, and an equally sick tiger suplex, Kingston scored with two backfists to the future to take the title @ 20:00. Crowd loved the match and the finish. This was a good match about ***¾. Larry Sweeney’s brother and sister (thanks guys for the correction) came into the ring to give the title to Kingston as the crowd chanted “Sweet and Sour” & “Larry Sweeney.” The crowd chanted for Kingston as he held the title to the sky.

Kingston then cut a promo, saying that this was the best wrestling product out there today. He dares anyone, anyone from New York or the piece of crap from Florida to challenge him. And the feed cut out, end of show. Thanks for joining me for this live blog.
