Preshow Battle Royal to name the Number One Contender for the United States Championship

The match begins with Heath Slater proclaiming his greatness, which of course leads to the other 15 men in the battle royal ganging up on him and tossing him out of the ring. Michael McGillicutty is tossed second, and Ted DiBiase quickly follows. Brodus Clay tosses Primo, Jinder Mahal, and Epico. Tensai LAUNCHES Justin Gabriel out of the ring and counters a slingshot hurricanrana from Tyson Kidd into an over-the-top-rope power bomb onto Primo, Epico, Mahal, and Gabriel. Clay and Tensai slug it out in the middle of the ring. Brodus gains the advantage, but the Prime Time Players double team him and get the elimination. Santino Marella eliminates JTG by faking the Cobra, and Zack Ryder tosses Drew McIntyre. Marella connects with the Cobra to Tensai and follows up with a Cobra to Darren Young. Marella pins Young… but it’s a Battle Royal, so that doesn’t really accomplish much. Marella tries to lift Young over the top rope, but Titus O’Neal catches him from behind and eliminates him. O’Neal scoop slams Young onto Tensai, but Ryder low-bridges the tope rope to eliminate O’Neal. Young goes after Ryder, but Ryder tosses him as well. Tensai catches Ryder and tries to power bomb him over the top rope, but Ryder grabs the top rope and head scissors Tensai out of the ring to win the match.

Match Result: Zack Ryder wins the Battle Royal, last eliminating Tensai.

The main card begins with JBL returning to WWE to take a seat at the commentary table alongside Michael Cole. JBL wishes Jerry Lawler his best wishes and a speedy recover, and he says that he’s just keeping the seat warm until Lawler returns.

Miz makes his way to the ring to defend his Intercontinental Championship. Miz grabs the mic and says that it is completely unfair that he has to defend the title in a Fatal Four-Way Match. He says that as soon as Booker T is finished dealing with the Brogue Kick situation, Miz is going to file an official complaint.

Fatal Four-Way Match for the Intercontinental Championship Match
The Miz (Champion) vs. Rey Mysterio vs. Sin Cara vs. Cody Rhodes
The Miz vs. Rey Mysterio vs. Sin Cara vs. Cody Rhodes

Sin Cara immediately takes out Miz and Rhodes with a springboard cross body. Mysterio and Sin Cara toss Miz and Rhodes before circling each other in the middle of the ring. Rhodes pulls Mysterio out of the ring, and Rhodes and Miz take out Mysterio on the outside before heading back into the ring to double team Sin Cara. Sin Cara arm drags Rhodes out of the ring and quickly does the same to Miz. Rhodes rushes back into the ring, but Mysterio heads in and low bridges the top rope to send Rhodes sailing. Mysterio and Sin Cara face off for the first time. Mysterio lands a knee to the gut and goes for a Fameasser, but Sin Cara counters into a Torture Rack, but Mysterio counters into a head scissors takedown. Miz and Rhodes head back into the ring and double team the luchadors. The alliance between Miz and Rhodes finally breaks down, but they slug it out in the middle of the ring. Rhodes goes for the Disaster Kick, but Miz ducks and back body drops Rhodes out of the ring. Mysterio goes for a school boy pin on Miz, but Sin Cara rolls up Mysterio from behind for a two count of his own. Mysterio and Sin Cara connect with a double team kick to Miz and then go back to work on each other. Sin Cara charges Mysterio in the corner, but Mysterio drop toes holds him into the second turnbuckle. Mysterio heads up top, but Sin Cara catches him with a kick to the head. Sin Cara heads up top with Mysterio, but Rhodes pulls him down and connects with the Disaster Kick for a two count. Rhodes heads up top with Mysterio as the crowd erupts into a chant of “Let’s Go Cody! Let’s Go Cody!” Rhodes goes for a superplex off the tope rope, but Miz sneaks under him for the power bomb / suplerplex Tower of Doom spot. Miz covers Rhodes for a two count and then covers Mysterio for a two count. Miz whips Mysterio to the ropes, but Mysterio slides between his legs and out of the ring. Sin Cara catches Miz with a springboard missile drop kick that sends Miz out of the ring and follows up with a Suicide Dive to Miz on the outside. Mysterio catches Rhodes with a seated senton off the ring apron on the other side of the ring. Sin Cara, Mysterio, and Miz slide back into the ring. Mysterio catches Miz with a springboard moonsault, but Rhodes breaks up the pin. Rhodes heads back into the ring, but Sin Cara drops him onto the second rope in position for the 619. Mysterio does the same to Miz and goes for the double 619, but Rhodes rolls out of the way. Mysterio connects with Miz, heads up top, and drops the dime. Mysterio has Miz covered, but Rhodes pull him out of the ring. Rhodes covers Miz, but Sin Cara hits a low drop kick to break up the pin. Mysterio heads back into the ring, but Rhodes immediately slides him right back out. Sin Cara connects with a kick to Rhodes’ head and pulls a second mask out of his trunks. Sin Cara tries to put the mask on Rhodes, but Miz catches Sin Cara with his patented back breaker / neck breaker combo. Miz goes for a power bomb on Miz, but Sin Cara puts the mask on Miz and head scissors him to the corner. Rhodes goes for Cross Rhodes on Sin Cara, but Miz catches Rhodes from behind with the Skull Crushing Finale for the three count.

Match Result: The Miz defeats Cody Rhodes with the Skull Crushing Finale.

We head to the back where Kaitlyn has been assaulted by an unknown assailant. It looks like she won’t be able to compete in the Divas Championship tonight…

WWE Tag Team Championship Match
Kofi Kingston & R-Truth (Champions) vs. Daniel Bryan & Kane
Kofi Kingston & R-Truth vs. Daniel Bryan & Kane

Bryan and Kane immediately argue about who is going to start the match, but Kane asserts his will and gets the nod. Kane and Kingston start the match, but Kingston quickly makes the tag to Truth. Kane traps Truth in the corner and makes a rather forceful tag to Bryan. Bryan works over Truth in the corner with a volley of kicks to the body. Bryan charges Truth in the corner, but Truth floats over and makes the tag to Kingston. Kingston connects with a top rope flying forearm shot to Bryan and makes the quick tag back to Truth. Truth hits a leg drop to a volley of boos from the very pro-Bryan crowd. Truth whips Bryan to the ropes, but Kane makes the blind take and traps Truth in the corner. Kane beats Truth down to the mat and once again tags Bryan connects with a volley of kicks to the chest and tags Kane. Kane locks in a rear chin lock, whips Truth to the corner, and once again tags Bryan. Kane whips Bryan to the corner and Bryan goes for a drop kick to Truth, but Truth rolls out of the way. Bryan blames Kane for the mishap, and Bryan and Kane start shoving each other in the middle of the ring. Bryan tries to be the voice of reason and asks Kane to hug it out, much to the delight of the crowd. HUG! HUG! HUG! Truth crawls back into the ring, but Bryan grabs his root to prevent the tag to Kingston. Truth finally kicks Bryan to the corner and makes the tag to Kingston. Kingston hits the Boom Drop and sets up for Trouble in Paradise, but Kane pulls Bryan out of the ring to make the save. Bryan is pissed that Kane thought he had to save him, but Kofi Kingston takes out both men while they’re arguing. Bryan and Kingston head back into the ring, and Bryan catches Kingston with the No Lock. Truth breaks up the hold and then heads outside to take out Kane. Bryan hits a drop kick to Kingston in the corner, but Kane heads up onto the ring apron to make the blind tag. Kane heads up top, and Kingston heads up with him. Kingston goes for a top rope hurricanrana, but Bryan holds Kane’s feet so that Kane won’t go flying. Kingston falls to the mat, but Kane is pissed that Bryan had to help him. Bryan is pissed that Kane is pissed, so he shoves Kane off the tope rope. Kane flies and happens to land right on Kingston… squishing him and getting the three count!

Match Result: Daniel Bryan & Kane defeat Kofi Kingston & R-Truth.

After the match, Bryan and Kane argue about which of them is the true tag team champion.

Eve heads into Booker T’s office to update him and Teddy Long on Kaitlyn’s condition. Kaitlyn’s ankle was injured in the attack, and she won’t be able to compete tonight. Booker says that he’ll reschedule Kaitlyn’s title match, but Teddy reminds him that there must be a Divas title match at Night of Champions. Booker realizes that the only solution is to make Eve the new Number One Contender for the Divas Championship. How convenient…

United States Championship Match
Antonio Cesaro (Champion) w/ Aksana vs. Zack Ryder
Antonio Cesaro vs. Zack Ryder

Cesaro takes down Ryder and rubs his face in the mat. Ryder gets back to his feet and whips Ryder to the ropes, but Cesaro drops him with a shoulder block on the rebound. Ryder regains control with a pair of drop kicks for a two count. Ryder goes for a quick Rough Ryder, but Cesaro counters into a hot shot on the top rope. Cesaro locks in a European head lock and follows up with a stiff clothesline for a two count. Cesaro hits a gorgeous gut-wrench suplex for another two count. Cesaro chokes Ryder against the second rope and hits a double stomp to the chest for another two count. Cesaro hits a suplex for yet another two count. Cesaro again locks in the European head lock, whips Ryder to the ropes, and catches Ryder with the European uppercut for a two count. Cesaro stomps on Ryder in the corner and locks in a modified Gory Special. Ryder escapes and hits a sit-out facebuster followed by a clothesline. Ryder catches Cesaro with a quick roll-up and finally gets a two count of his own. Ryder heads up top and connects with a top rope missile drop kick. Cesaro rolls to the ring apron and bounces Ryder’s head off the top turnbuckle. Cesaro heads up top, but Ryder crotches him and heads up top to hit the top rope hurricanrana. Ryder sets up for the Broski Boot, but Aksana pulls Cesaro out of the ring. Ryder chases Cesaro back into the ring, but Cesaro catches Ryder with the Neutralizer for the three count.

Match Result: Antonio Cesaro defeats Zack Ryder with the Neutralizer.

Alberto Del Rio, Ricardo Rodriguez, and David Otunga are scheming in the back. Ricardo takes his neck brace off because he’s feeling much better, but Del Rio and Otunga berate him and tell him to NEVER take off his neck brace.

Randy Orton vs. Dolph Ziggler w/ Vickie Guerrero
Randy Orton vs. Dolph Ziggler

Ziggler traps Orton in the corner and goes to work with kicks and stomps, but Orton gets back to his feet and slugs it out with Ziggler in the middle of the ring. Ziggler regains control, rakes the eyes, and connects with a volley of elbow shots to the head, neck, and shoulders. Ziggler goes for a suplex, but Orton counters into a slingshot suplex for a two count. Orton hits his patented back breaker and follows up with a pair of clotheslines. Orton hits a power slam, but Ziggler rolls to the ring apron. Orton goes for the rope-assisted DDT, but Ziggler counters into a roll-up for a two count. Orton drags Ziggler to the corner and sets him on the top. Orton heads up top with Ziggler and goes for the top rope superplex, but Ziggler shoves Orton back down to the mat. Ziggler connects with a missile drop kick off the top for a two count. The crowd has been on fire all night, so I can’t wait to see them during Punk / Cena. Orton and Ziggler slug it out in the middle of the ring, but Ziggler drops Orton and stomps on him several times. Ziggler locks in his head stand chin lock and flips into a bridging chin lock to show off. Ziggler spins over Orton and grapevines the body to add pressure to the hold. Orton finally fights back to his feet and breaks the hold with a back suplex. Ziggler regains control with a clothesline out of the corner for a two count. Ziggler locks in another rear chin lock, but Orton regains his vertical base and breaks the hold with a straight right hand. Orton hits a standing drop kick, and both men are down in the middle of the ring. Ziggler heads up top, but Orton knocks his feet out from under him. Orton pounds on Ziggler, heads up top, and hits the top rope superplex for a LOOOOOONG two count. Both men get back to their feet and slug it out in the middle of the ring. They do the Boo / Yeah spot with Orton getting the boos and Ziggler getting the cheers. Orton drops Ziggler with a back elbow shot, but Ziggler catches Orton with the Fameasser for a two count. The crowd is firmly behind Ziggler at this point. The fight spills out of the ring, and Orton whips Ziggler HARD into the barricade. Orton tosses Ziggler over the barricade and hits a vicious barricade-assisted DDT onto the arena floor. “Holy shit! Holy shit! Holy shit!” Orton rolls Ziggler back into the ring and goes for the cover, but Ziggler just manages to get a boot on the rope. Orton sets up for the RKO and stalks Ziggler, but Ziggler counters into a roll-up for a two count. Ziggler locks in the sleeper hold, but Orton counters into a mid-air RKO for the three count.

Match Result: Randy Orton defeats Dolph Ziggler with the RKO.

Divas Championship Match
Layla (Champion) vs. Kaitlyn Eve Torres
Layla vs. Kaitlyn

Eve catches Layla with a standing side head lock, but Layla counters into a head scissors takedown. Layla goes for a wrist lock and transitions into a hammer lock. Eve shoves Layla to the ropes, but Layla rolls into a cover for a two count, but Eve shifts her weight to pin Layla for a two count of her own. Layla hits a low drop kick to the head, and Eve seems to have injured her nose. Layla shows concern for Eve, but Eve was playing possum and tosses Layla out of the ring. Eve follows Layla out of the ring and whips her ribs-first into the ring apron. Eve rolls Layla back into the ring and punts her in the ribs. Eve goes to work with mounted punches to the ribs and follows up by whipping Eve to the corner. Eve heads up top and locks in a rear chin lock from above. Eve kicks Layla back to the middle of the ring and gets a two count. Eve grapevines the body and applies pressure to the injured ribs. JBL name drops Kevin Von Erich and asks Cole if he got the reference. Cole says Kevin was the great Texas Tornado… and JBL tells Cole that the Texas Tornado was Kevin’s late brother Kerry. Great exchange there. Back in the ring, Layla regains control with a kick to the gut and goes for a springboard cross body, but Eve rolls out of the way, causing Layla to slam into the mat. Eve hits Layla with the Heart Breaker and gets the three count.

Match Result: Eve defeats Layla with the Heart Breaker.

Daniel Bryan and Kane are in the back, still arguing about which one of them is the Tag Team Champion. AJ and their therapist show up and try to remind them of all of the progress they’ve made. Kane storms off but returns to give them all a Gatorade bath and declare that he’s going to Disney World.

World Heavyweight Championship Match
Sheamus (Champion) vs. Alberto Del Rio

Before the match begins, Booker T comes out to the stage and announces that he’s concluded his investigation. Yes, the Brogue Kick is a dangerous maneuver, but that’s part of being a WWE Superstar. Ladies and gentlemen, at this time, Booker T declares that the Brogue Kick is reinstated and legal. Sucks for Del Rio. The match begins, and Del Rio pulls Otunga up onto the ring apron to bitch at him. Sheamus goes for the quick Brogue Kick, but Del Rio evades, causing Sheamus to Brogue Kick Del Rio off the ring apron. Sheamus heads up top, but Del Rio follows him up. Del Rio jumps down and bounces Sheamus off the ropes as he goes. Sheamus crumbles onto the ring steps, so Del Rio shoves him so that he slams into the Spanish announce table. Del Rio rolls Sheamus back into the ring and begins to work over the arm to set up the Cross Arm Breaker. JBL calls Mil Mascaras “the most evil, maniacal, selfish human being that ever lived.” Awesome. Del Rio heads up top and goes for a big splash, but Sheamus catches Del Rio with a mid-air punch to the gut. Sheamus whips Del Rio to the corner and charges toward him, but Del Rio catches Sheamus with a back elbow shot. Del Rio pulls Sheamus’ arm over the top rope and locks in a hanging version of the Cross Arm Breaker. Del Rio breaker the hold at four, head up top, and again goes for a big splash, but Sheamus once again counters, this time with a double ax-handle shot to the head. Sheamus hits the ropes and connects with a high knee and scoop slam for a two count. Sheamus stretches Del Rio across the top rope, but Del Rio tries to counter and whip Sheamus to the corner, but Sheamus counters and slams Del Rio into the ring post. Sheamus stretches Del Rio across the top turnbuckle in the corner and beats on his chest. Sheamus rolls Del Rio back into the ring and goes for White Noise, but Del Rio counters into the Backstabber for a two count. Del Rio sets up Sheamus for the Cross Arm Breaker, but Sheamus counters into White Noise. Sheamus sets up for the Brogue Kick, but Del Rio ducks and connects with a kick to the back of the head in the corner for a two count. Del Rio goes for the Cross Arm Breaker, but Sheamus counters and goes for the Brogue Kick, but Del Rio ducks and goes for the Cross Arm Breaker, but Sheamus counters and goes for the Texas Cloverleaf, but Del Rio kicks him away to prevent the hold. Sheamus charges Del Rio, but Del Rio low bridges the top rope, and Sheamus ends up with his left arm caught up in the top and middle ropes. Del Rio repeatedly kicks the arm while Sheamus is trapped, but eventually the referee forces the break. Sheamus rolls back into the ring, but Del Rio hits the Backstabber and locks in the Cross Arm Breaker right in the middle of the ring. Sheamus fights… and fights… and fights… and rolls over so that he can counter into a power bomb. There have been some great counters and reversals in this match. Sheamus sets up for the Brogue Kick, but Del Rio ducks and once again locks in the Cross Arm Breaker. Sheamus FINALLY gets his foot on the ropes to break the hold. Del Rio goes for the enzuigiri in the corner, but Sheamus evades and catches Del Rio with the Brogue Kick on the rebound for the three count.

Match Result: Sheamus defeats Alberto Del Rio with the Brogue Kick.

WWE Championship Match
CM Punk (Champion) w/ Paul Heyman vs. John Cena
CM Punk vs. John Cena

Paul Heyman is out first. He may be from New York City (cheap heat), but tonight he’s just like everyone else here in Boston. Tonight he’s here to have a front-row seat to see CM Punk make history and defeat John Cena, because CM Punk is proudly a Paul Heyman guy. Punk is wearing New York Yankee pinstripes on his trunks and boots. The match begins with Punk and Cena circling each other in the middle of the ring. They evade each other’s takedown attempts, but eventually Cena catches Punk with Fisherman’s Suplex, but Punk rolls to his stomach to avoid the pin. Cena retaliates with a big back body drop, but Punk catches Cena with a low drop kick to the face for a two count. Punk whips Cena to the corner and climbs up top to celebrate, but Cena pulls Punk off the top and goes for an electric chair drop, but Punk slips out the back to escape. Punk takes Cena down to the mat, goes to work with elbow shots to the head, and gets a two count. “Let’s go Cena! Cena sucks! Let’s go Cena! Cena sucks!” Punk locks in a SWEET submission hold that looks like an inverted STF. Cena is locked up as if he were in an STF, but Punk is bridging with his chest facing up. Hella sweet hold right there. Cena finally breaks the hold and rolls out of the ring to catch a breather. Punk stalks Cena, waits for him to get back his feet on the outside, and hits a suicide dive between the ropes, right in front of Cena’s father in the front row. Punk rolls Cena back into the ring and blows a kiss to the crowd, but Cena catches him with a baseball slide kick from behind. Cena whips Punk into the front row and them suplexes him back over the barricade. Cena rolls Punk into the ring, follows him in, and goes for the Attitude Adjustment, but Punk counters into a kick to the head. Punk locks in a Camel Clutch. HUMBLE HIM! HUMBLE HIM! Cena tries to get back to his feet with Punk on his back, but Punk regains control with elbows to the head. Punk peppers Cena with jabs and gets a two count. Punk heads up top and connects with a top rope double ax handle to the head. Punk goes for the Go To Sleep, but Cena floats over, hits the ropes, and connects with a flying shoulder block. Cena goes for the Protobomb, but Punk counters and drops Cena. Cena catches Punk with a right hook and gets a two count. Cena goes for the Five Knuckle Shuffle, but Punk gets a boot up in Cena’s face. Punk hits a neck breaker for another two count. Punk goes for a springboard clothesline, but Cena catches him, rolls through, and goes for the Attitude Adjustment, but Punk grabs the ropes and pulls himself to the outside. Cena stares at Punk on the outside… AND JOHN CENA HITS A SUICIDE DIVE TO THE OUTSIDE! Cena rolls Punk back into the ring, hits the Protobomb, and once again goes for the Five Knuckle Shuffle, but once again Punk gets a boot up in Cena’s face, and this time Punk rolls all the way through into the Anaconda Vice. Cena rolls and counters the Anaconda Vice into the STF. Paul Heyman is apoplectic at ringside… BUT PUNK COUNTERS THE STF INTO THE CRIPPLER CROSSFACE! Cena gets back to his feet with Punk and his back and falls backward to slam Punk into the mat and break the hold. Both men get back to their feet in the middle of the ring and slug it out. Cena hits the ropes and charges at Punk, but Punk catches him with a spinning back heel shot to the chin. Punk heads up top and hits the Macho Man Diving Elbow Drop for a two count. Punk sets up for the Go To Sleep, but CENA COUNTERS THE GO TO SLEEP INTO THE STF! Punk finally makes it to the ropes, gets the break, and HITS THE GO TO SLEEP… FOR A TWO COUNT!!! JOHN CENA KICKED OUT OF THE GO TO SLEEP!!! This is taking years off of Paul Heyman’s life. Punk goes to work with kicks to the body while selling the leg damage from the STF. Punk hits the ropes and connects with a clothesline for yet another two count. Punk drags Cena to his feet, bitch slaps him, and goes for the Go To Sleep, but Cena counters into an Attitude Adjustment attempt, but Punk escapes, but Cena catches him with the Protobomb. Cena hits the Five Knuckle Shuffle. CENA HITS THE ATTITUDE ADJUSTMENT… AND PUNK KICKS OUT AT TWO!!! CM PUNK KICKED OUT OF THE ATTITUDE ADJUSTMENT!!! Punk rolls out of the ring as Cena questions the speed of the referee’s count. Cena follows Punk out of the ring, rolls him back into the ring, and heads up top. Cena goes for the diving leg drop, but Punk falls out of the way. Punk levels Cena with a kick to the back of the skull but only gets a two count. Punk slaps Cena again and again and again and follows up with a knee to the temple for a two count. PUNK HEADS UP TOP AND GOES FOR A MOONSAULT, BUT CENA ROLLS OUT OF THE WAY!!! That was an awkward, Terry-Funk-in-ECW style moonsault, but still, it was a moonsault. Cena goes for the Attitude Adjustment, but Punk counters into the Go To Sleep… BUT JOHN CENA KICKS OUT OF THE GO TO SLEEP FOR A SECOND TIME!!! PUNK HITS CENA WITH THE ROCK BOTTOM… BUT JOHN CENA KICKS OUT OF THE ROCK BOTTOM!!! Punk has no idea what he has to do to beat John Cena. CENA HITS PUNK WITH THE ATTITUDE ADJUSTMENT… BUT CM PUNK KICKS OUT OF THE ATTITUDE ADJUSTMENT FOR A SECOND TIME!!! Cena lifts Punk up to the top turnbuckle and follows him up. “This is awesome! This is awesome!” chant from the crowd. Cena and Punk battle it out on the top… BUT CENA GERMAN SUPLEXES PUNK OFF THE TOP TURNBUCKLE AND GETS THE THREE COUNT. Cena celebrates with the belt as his music plays… BUT WAIT! BOTH CENA AND PUNK’S SHOULDER’S WERE DOWN!!! We’ve got a double pin, which means that CM PUNK IS STILL THE WWE CHAMPION!!! After the match, Punk levels Cena with the championship belt. Punk makes his way up the ramp with Heyman and the belt as the referee checks on Cena in the middle of the ring.

Match Result: CM Punk retains the WWE Championship after a double pin after John Cena German Suplexed Punk off the top rope.
