WWE MAIN EVENT 8.21.13

– Miz and Mathews are on commentary.

The Shield vs. The Usos and Kofi Kingston
This is a pretty solid collection of wrestlers. Ambrose and Kingston start us off. They go back and forth trying to come out on top. Kofi eventually comes out on top with a shoulder block after a few leapfrogs. In comes Jimmy Uso. In comes Seth Rollins. Jimmy hits a clothesline and tags in Jey. They double team Rollins for a moment. Jey gets a one count off of a double elbow drop. A “lets go Rollins” chant starts to break out. Cool. Jey maintains control and tags Jimmy back in. UUUU. SOOOOO. He drops a knee and gets a one count. Rollins brawls back and corners Jimmy. He tags in Ambrose who srtomps away at Jimmy. He quick tags Rollins back in.Things break down and the faces toss heels to the outside on one another and do a triple dive to the outside. Kofi overshot a senton on Ambrose by a long shot. Pretty solid action so far. Nobody really took a clear advantage until the faces cleaned house right before the commercial.

-Commercial Break-

Kingston is in control of Ambrose as we return from break. He delivers some kicks and the ten count punches followed by an uppercut. In comes Jimmy who hits the running Samoan ass. The Shield use some distraction to take control and Reigns comes in. He dominate Jimmy and tags in Rollins. Rollins hits a scoop slam and gets a two count. He picks Jimmy apart for a moment and tags Ambrose in. Ambrose drops a couple of elbows and covers Jimmy for another one count. Ambrose gets Jimmy in The Shield’s corner and delivers strikes and boots. In comes Reigns. He gets a two count off of an immediate pinfall attempt. Reigns hits some nice looking knees before getting another two count. He tags Ambrose in. Jimmy Uso fights off Reigns and Ambrose. He hits Ambrose with a roundhouse kick and makes an opening for himself. In comes Kofi! Kofi has dropkicks for everybody. Reigns charges at him and ends up on the outside. He clotheslines Ambrose and hits him with the Boom Drop. Trouble in Paradise misses. Rollins gets in the ring and gets back body dropped to the outside by Jimmy. Kingston hits the SOS on the inside of the ring but Reigns breaks it up. Ambrose rolls up Kingston and Kingston rolls through with his own. TWO. Kofi goes for a moonsault and Rollins chops his legs out from under him. Ambrose picks up the pieces and hits the Bulldog Driver for the victory.

This was a pretty fun match but it doesn’t hold up agaimnst most of The Shield’s other outings. The match was almost entirely punches and kicks without much intensity behind them. The constant tags made it exciting enough though.

OFFICIAL RESULT The Shield @ 11:36 via pin fall
RATING: **3/4

-Commercial Break-

AJ Lee (w/ Layla) vs. Naomi (w/ Cameron)
They exchange wrist locks to start. AJ slams her head against the mat a few times. Naomi cartwheels out of an armbar and takes AJ down for a one count. They continue to struggle for control over an arm lock. AJ goes behind and Naomi shakes her ass. She goes to the apron snd goes for a springboard something but AJ sidesteps. AJ locks her in a sleeper. Naomi fights out and ends up getting taken down with a nice kick. AJ jumps on Naomi”s back and applies a sleeper. AJ delivers some boots and ends up getting cuahgt with a dropkick. Naomi hits another one and then delivers a few elbows that were so far from missing their mark. Naomi hits the rear view. Layla distracts Naomi and locks in The Black Widow. It’s over.

This wasn’t good. Naomi is athletic but all of her unique moves are so far from connecting that she’d be better off not doing them. I’m interested in seeing what they have planned for the AJ/Layla tandem though. There has to be an endgame… right?

OFFICIAL RESULT: AJ Lee @ 3:30 via submission
RATING: 3/4*

-Commercial Break-

– Zeb Colter cuts a promo about Indian workers on the help lines that he calls. Outsourcing promos = ratings. If Zeb was the king of outsourcing in this country, he’d export Khali. He then tells Khali not to take it the wrong way. KHALI CHANT~! Zeb is going to ask Khali a question about the country. He asks when the war of 1812 was fought. Khali looks confused before chopping Cesaro over the head.

The Great Khali (w/ Natalya and Hornswoggle) vs. Jack Swagger (w. Zeb Colter and Antonio Cesaro)
They lock up to start. Swagger tries taking the big man down but eats chops. All the corners. All the chops. Khali tosses him into a corner and delivers 10 count elbows to the trap of Swagger. Clothesline to the outside by Khali. Swagger tries regrouping with Colter. Khali pulls him back in by his hair by Swagger takes control. He shoulder thrusts him in the corner a few times and hits the Swagger bomb for two. He targets the leg of Khali and attempts to hyper-extend it. Khali fights back with rolling Germans. Just kidding, he chops Swagger. He follows up with some clotheslines. He sets up for the big chop and Swagger rolls to the outside. Khali tries following him but ends up getting his leg hyper-extended again, this time over the top rope. Things break down on the outside and Nattie slaps Cesaro. Swagger rolls to the outside and beats up Swoggle. He rolls back in and walks into the big chop.

This… was a Great Khali match.

OFFICIAL RESULT: The Great Khali @ 3:33 aired via pinfall
RATING: 1/2*

-Commercial Break-

– Recap video of Daniel Bryan’s storyline up to this point. Remember folks, the money is in the chase. You can’t expect instant gratification from a slow burn story on night number one. It’s episodic television. For once, they’re doing it the right way.

– Fandango and Summer Rae come out and dance on the ramp which interrupts Miz on commentary. Yep.

-Commercial Break-

Bray Wyatt (w/ The Wyatt Family) vs. Justin Gabriel
Lock up. Wyatt clubs Gabriel over the back. He tosses him into a corner and delivers a few blows into the abdomen of Gabez. Gabriel fights back with some kicks and a splash in the corner but Wyatt is quick to take Gabriel down again. Wyatt preaches to Rowen and Harper followed by a body splash to Gabriel in the corner. Wyatt dances with Gabriel and plants him with Sister Abigail.

OFFICIAL RESULT: Bray Wyatt @ 1:53 via pinfall
RATING: N/R

OVERALL: This was a pretty lackluster episode of Main Event. The six man tag wasn’t as good as you’d expect and the rest was rather tame. Avoid this episode. Thanks for reading!
