411’s ECW on Sc-Fi Report 2.13.07

February 13, 2007 | Posted by Michael Bauer

Welcome to the ECW on Sci-Fi. As always, I am Michael Bauer, your 411 ECW Re-capper.

But first, I’ll respond to a little feedback from last week. And they are all kind of the same as everyone wants to talk about the ECW Originals vs. The New Breed.

I am usually at work during the broadcasts of Raw, Smackdown, and ECW but I make it a point to catch the recaps. I must say I like the angle they are taking with the New Breed vs. the Old Breed if they can book it properly and it doesn’t turn into that ill fated storyline during the demise of WCW with the Millionaires and whatever I don’t care I hated that storyline. If McMahon can overcome his own overgrown sense of self importance and doesn’t completely job out every member of the old ECW and makes them look strong then this angle could work. I see Burke better as being the manager of the stable, and am I the only one that has noticed the glaring omission of none other than CM Punk in this “New Breed”? Hopefully once he’s out of the company doghouse he can be inserted in this angle. I think if Foley is coming back to promote his new book he should come back as Cactus and a member of the old breed, and go apeshit on McMahon and his new breed. I’m also not sold on Kevin Thorn as a member of this stable or Matt Striker for that matter. – Jeremy

I do have to say that I agree that CM Punk needs to be in this somehow, but Thorn and Striker both make sense for this. Striker is the best on the mic, even with Burke there, and Thorn is the muscle of the team, even with Cor Von around. My personal opinion is that this group has the perfect dynamic. Andrew (below) gave his thoughts on every match, but I want to just point out his thoughts on the this new feud.

I loved this episode of ECW quite a lot. Most of my favorites were featured and it looks like a new faction was formed and that’s always fun.

Notes: Striker was great in his various roles all night. He’s just a guy you love to hate.

A faction of Thorn, Striker, Cor Von, and Burke is just what the doctor ordered to get people talking about ECW. I never really watched the original ECW so I don’t have the nostalgia for the originals that many do but I never really had much use for Balls, Dreamer, Sandman, or Sabu so I would like to see the “new breed” eventually go over so we can be done with those old farts.

Have a good one!! – Andrew

Thanks for all the feedback Andrew, even the parts I left out in regards to the points about each match. I agree with just about everything about the New Breed, but I think you in the minority when it came to the ECW originals. And as we found out, the difference between Test and Snitsky is a clean drug test.

I know a lot of you guys aren’t too happy with the way the new ECW is going, and granted neither am I. I read your articles regularly, since all I do at work is sit on a computer and make building checks every other hour or so. I agree with most people that One Night Stand, and maybe the first two episodes of ECW which still doesn’t have a name for there show, such as, Heat, Velocity, Raw, Smackdown, they are just simply ECW, but ah well. Anyway, to the point of this, the new breed vs. originals is a good idea if done right, but even though the originals got weapon attacks what nots at the end, STILL all the originals lost in a wrestling match to the new breed, and isn’t that what they will compete in at the big pay off anyway? Great idea, bad start in my opinion, it is already one sided, UNLESS, and HOPEFULLY the big match that holds New Breed vs. Originals is contended under Extreme Rules, but then again, when is the last time we have seen a ECW match contended under Extreme rules….yeah, sad isn’t it… – Chris

Well Chris, there is plenty of time to see what happens, but yes, right now the New Breed is way ahead in Week 2. But remember, it started with the Originals destroying Burke, so they got in the first shot. I think last week was just an attempt to even it up.

And the ECW on Sci-Fi begins now! We get a video package from last week’s Lashley vs. Holly match and the following attack by Snitsky. I still love Tazz calling him a big, raw-boned freak.

Tazz and Joey Styles are at ringside and things start off with the ECW World Champion coming down to the ring.

Extreme Rules Match: Bobby Lashley vs. Hardcore Holly

So it looks like we are starting off with the pre-announced Extreme Rules Match. Holly comes out alone, no Snitsky with him. The bell rings after the two stand nose to nose. (4:29) Both men trade blows back and forth as Holly bails, but Lashley follows and walks into a boot to the gut. Lashley goes face first into the announce table, but fights back and smashes Holly’s back into the apron and then connects with a belly to belly suplex. Lashley brings out a table as the crowd goes nuts. Holly clubs Lashley in the back, but they trade blows again, before Lashley drills him to the floor. Lashley sets up the table and Holly nails a clothesline. Holly then folds up the table and puts it back under the ring. Huh? Tazz is confused. Holly starts putting the boots to Lashley as Styles mentions the 24 sticthes in Holly’s back the last time a table was involved in one of his matches. Lashley reverses an irish whip and a clothesline to Holly sends them both over the barricade and Holly crashes on his head. Back into the ring now and Lashley sets up for the Oklahoma Slam, but Holly grabs the top rope and hotshots Lashley’s body on the top rope. Holly grabs the champion and crotches Lashley with the ring post as we go to a commercial break at 4:24.

Back from the break at 7:39 and Holly sets up a chair upright in the ring and Lashley is dropped throat first onto the back on the chair. Holly folds up the chair and Lashley grabs it, but Holly kicks it into his face for a two count. Holly locks Lashley in a rear naked choke and Lashley fights out before running into a clothesline. Holly grabs the chair and wedges it below the top turnbuckle. Lashley fights out of an irish whip and throws Holly into the steel chair. Lashley hits an exploder suplex on Holly and both men are down. Both men up and Lashley with some clotheslines. Irish whip into the corner by Lashley and Holly is sandwiched in the corner. Lashley out of the three point stance and a charge into the corner. Delayed vertical suplex by Lashley and he gets a huge crowd pop. Lashley hooks up Holly and connects with a Torture Rack into a back breaker for a two count. How in the world did he kick out??? Lashley goes outside and re-gets the table from under the ring, but Holly baseball slides the table into Lashley’s face. Lashley put into the ring and Holly gets a steel chair. Lashley slips out of an Alabama Slam attempt and grabs Holly. Oklahoma Slam onto the steel chair! Lashley with the cover and the three count at 13:09.

Winner: Bobby Lashley

Lashley heads to the back with no Snitsky sighting. Later tonight, Rob Van Dam teams up with Sabu to take on Matt Striker and Elijah Burke. But up next, it’s Tommy Dreamer and The Sandman vs. Marquis Cor Von and Kevin Thorn.

Back from the break and we get another Snitsky video. Very evil, very deranged, I must say.

In the ring, it’s Extreme Expose, dancing to “Candy Shop” by 50 Cent. I’m embarrassed for him for having his song being used. At least the timing of the ladies is getting better as they all strap down to their bra and panties before being interrupted by the fanged freaks, according to Joey Styles.

Tommy Dreamer and The Sandman vs. Marquis Cor Von and Kevin Thorn

We gets clips from Raw last week of Balls Mahoney getting destroyed by Umaga and then losing to Cor Von last week on the ECW on Sci-Fi. Dreamer comes out from the crowd with Sandman and smashes a beer can on his head to boot. They hit the ring in a fury and the bell ring as the New Breed stomps away on the originals. Thorn has Dreamer in the ring as Cor Von dumps Sandman on the barricade and then throws him into the steel steps. Cor Von back in the ring. Thorn throws Striker off the ropes and Cor Von kills him with the PPOOUUNNCCEE!! The replay shows Dreamer’s head whiplashing off the bottom rope. Dreamer and Thorn now in the ring and Cor Von gets the tag and starts clubbing away. Dreamer fights out of a sleeper hold and connects with a neckbreaker. Cor Von grabs the boot of Dreamer so he can’t get the tag and Thorn gets tagged in. Thorn drops an elbow onto the back of Dreamer. Dreamer avoids a charge and Thorn hits the turnbuckle as Dreamer gets the tag. Sandman with a bunch of clothesline. Cor Von grabs the cane, but Sandman hits him from behind as the ref tries to grab the cane. Kevin Thorn grabs his walking stick and nails Sandman in the throat. Thorn covers and gets the three count at 3:14, though Tazz says Sandman’s shoulders were not down.

Winners: Kevin Thorn and Marquis Cor Von

We are treated to a CM Punk video before we go to break.

Back from commercial and we see Lashley backstage when Teddy Long comes backstage to congratulate him and offer Lashley to be a special guest on Smackdown this week. Lashley accepts.

CM Punk vs. Mike Knox

The straight edge CM Punk is back… and so is Mike Knox. The bell rings and they lockup. Knox backs Punk into the corner and gets a cheap shot to the temple. Punk battles back with kicks to the chest. Punk gets a leg scissors out of the corner, but Punk drops with an inverted spinebuster. Mike Knox gets a legdrop for a two count. Knox locks in a headlock and gets some knees to the gut before locking in an abdominal stretch. Punk fights out with a knee to the face. Yes, I did say that. Punk gets hits by a dropkick from Knox for a two count. Yes, I also just said that as Styles mentions that Knox has lost about 10-15 pounds. Punk fights back and gets a bunch of punches and kicks, including a high shot to the head. Knox in the corner and Punk connects with the running high knee into a bulldog. Punk heads up top, but Knox avoids the clothesline. But he can’t avoid the Urniage into the Anaconda Vice for the tap out at 3:01.

Winner: CM Punk

Snitsky comes out of nowhere and nearly cuts CM Punk in half. Snitsky grabs Punk by the throat and almost takes Punk’s head off with a boot to the face. Punk is out cold. Snitsky leaves as the ref gets medical help out to Punk. And up next, RVD and Sabu take on Striker and Burke.

Back from the breaks and the Seattle Supersonics are in the audience. We have another video in the four part series about Bobby Lashley and his past with amateur wrestling.

Rob Van Dam and Sabu vs. Matt Striker and Elijah Burke

This time, the originals come out as separate wrestlers. RVD is first and then Sabu comes out as we head to another commercial break. We are back as the bell rings with all four men in the ring. Sabu and Striker start as Striker uses the hair to get the early advantage. Sabu tries to counter a DDT attempt, but Sabu plants him like a lawn dart for a two count. Striker nails as RVD gets the tag and Burke also gets the tag. They lock up and Burke gets the headlock on RVD. Van Dam fights out, but to no avail. RVD gets irish whipped and Burke hits a shoulder block. Burke off the ropes and RVD lands a monkey flip on Burke. RVD gives his finger pointing as Burke backs into the corner. Burke counters RVD and gets the tag to Striker. Striker gets kicked right in the face and Sabu is tagged in. Sabu stops himself from crashing into the corner, but Burke clotheslines Sabu from the ring apron. Burke tagged in as Sabu is the corner and Burke connects with a double knee lift for a two count. Burke with a chinlock on Sabu. Sabu fights back, but Burke with a clothesline and a tag to Striker. Sabu whipped into the corner and he connects with a running forearm to several two counts. Burke back in and he locks in another chinlock. Sabu is bleeding from the mouth as he fights to make a tag and does just that. Clothesline to Burke. Burke ducks a second one, but gets kicked in the face. Burke in the corner… rolling monkey flip. RVD kicks Striker to the outside. Sabu goes up top, but Striker pulls him down to the outside as RVD connects with Rolling Thunder. RVD leaps over the top rope and flips onto Striker. Sabu tries a springboard attempt, but Burke gets his foot up on the middle rope to trip up Sabu. Sabu lands right on his back and head as Burke covers with his feet on the rope and get the three count at 7:03.

Winners: Matt Striker and Elijah Burke

Striker and Burke head to the back, but Thorn and Cor Von come out to show the unity of the New Breed as we fade out.
