November 4, 2008 | Posted by Michael Bauer

Welcome to the ECW on Sci-Fi! As always, I am Michael Bauer, your 411 ECW Re-capper and I am in mourning for the non existence of Evan Bourne on this program for the next months.

Todd Grisham and Matt Striker at ringside and we go straight to the ECW Champion and he normal loud ovation!

Non Title Match – Matt Hardy vs. Bam Neely

Chavo Guerrero is not with bam after the casket match on Halloween. The bell rings and the lockup ends with bam shoving off Matt. Matt gets a headlock, Bam lifts him up, and Matt brings with him down in the headlock. Bam reverses and gets Matt in the headlock after a knee to the gut. Bam off the ropes and a shoulder block. Matt hits a huge hip toss and a clothesline for two. Matt back to the headlock, but Bam shoves him off and kicks Matt in the back. Bam with a pair of body slams and a two count. Bam gets a leg drop into another two count. Matt locked in a chin lock by Bam, he gets up, and gets Bam to walk into an elbow after the irish whip. Bam catches Matt off the second rope and hits a Bossman Slam for a two count. Bam with a suplex attempt, but Matt reverses into a neck breaker. Matt drops bam on the ropes and hits a swinging neckbreaker for a two count. Matt hits an elbow off the second turnbuckle and a side effect for another two count. Matt holds his back as he goes to Bam, but Bam shoves him back into the turnbuckle. Matt gets the boot up on the charge and hits a tornado DDT for another two count. Bam catches Matt heading up top and hits a superplex, getting a two count himself. Bam grabs Matt and tries to put Matt on the top rope, but Matt gets his feet up, spins around, and hits the Twist of Fate! The cover and it is over at 5:20.

Winner: Matt Hardy

Match Rating: **1/4 Kinda short to mean anything, but Bam looked motivated. Matt comes off looks like an underdog who got lucky though and I don’t think he should be booked that way.

After the bell, Finlay and Hornswoggle come out and dance on the stage, before we go to commercial. When we get back, Finlay says that he is out there because he is the one person matt Hardy has not defended the title against. Finlay says that this is a challenge and Matt said he knew it would come. Mark Henry stops the proceedings and says that there is no way that Finlay should get his title shot. Finlay stops Mark Henry’s spiel because nobody wants to see him get another shot. If the people did, he would get more than 4 votes for Cyber Sunday. But Mark and Tony were two of them. Matt stops and says he also voted for him, so at least one person voted for him. Mark says all he wants from Matt is his title match. Mark then says Finlay has never beaten him without help from his shillelagh or Hornswoggle. Teddy Long comes out to stop it all. He says that Matt Hardy will defend the title next week against the winner of Mark Henry and Finlay tonight.

Oh… and the Boogeyman is coming…

Ricky Ortiz vs. John Davis

We don’t see Ortiz in weeks and this is who we come back to him facing? The bell rings and they sort of shake hands. John starts pounding Ortiz with clubs to the back. Ortiz punches Davis in the face and whips him off the ropes, hitting a dropkick. Ortiz misses a corner charge, but blocks a suplex and hits one of his own. Ortiz drops John with another version of a suplex. Ortiz to the second turnbuckle and hits a shoulder block. Ortiz signals… The Big O! Ortiz gets the cover and improves to 6-0 in 1:20.

Winner: Ricky Ortiz

Match Rating: * Ortiz doesn’t have a match in weeks and comes back to face a jobber. It was very short and doesn’t want me buying a Ricky-O Rally Towel.

We get highlights of Evan Bourne’s injury last week. He has torn ligaments in his ankle and he will be out at least four months. As the commentators where Matt Sydal competed would say… EPIC FAIL!

Back from the break and Jack Swagger comes out with an even bigger smile and even more of a swagger. He has a table in the ring with weapons on it. On the mic, he says Dreamer was bragging about his 19 year career until he lost to Jack last week. Jack says that Dreamer has done nothing in that time except get beat with a cane by The Sandman, asking for more pain. Jack says he was trying to prove how tough he was after losing and that hasn’t changed. Tommy did win a match and become ECW Champion. Jack brings out the old ECW Title… old just like Tommy Dreamer and his 30 minute title reign. Jack throws the title in a trashcan and brings out a picture of his real life wife. He talks about Tommy’s daughters and asks how does it feel to be married to a failure, saying their kids will be failures. He says that there is hope by finding a role model like himself. He says he will let those kids look up to him… and Tommy Dreamer rushes the ring. Jack grabs the trashcan, but Dreamer boots it right back into his chest. Dreamer cracks Jack with the kendo stick and Swagger bails. Striker compares Jack’s experience to having the new Guns and Roses single. Once you get it, you might not want it. Ouch!

Back from the break, it is the Raw Rebound, celebrating the “800th” episode of Raw, featuring the Cage Match in which Chris Jericho brought home the gold again. Jericho vs. John Cena at the Survivor Series in his hometown. That should be something.

Winner faces Matt Hardy for the ECW Title Next Week – Finlay (with Hornswoggle) vs. Mark Henry (with Tony Atlas)

The bell rings and they circle around. Finlay plays a little duck and chase and tries to lockup. Mark Henry shoves him off twice. Finlay circles around and tries to just club away on Henry, but Finlay walks into a headbutt. Finlay gets back to his feet and Henry finally traps Finlay in a corner, but Finlay fights back with tons of punches until he gets shoved off. Finlay on the apron and he hits a shoulder to the gut. Finlay tries again, but Henry gets a knee up. Back in the ring, Finlay stays near the ropes and fights back, but Henry again stops the momentum with one strike, sending Finlay in the corner, Finlay whipped hard, but he gets the boot up. Henry blocks a punch from Finlay and stomps away as we go to a commercial at 3:40.

We return at 8:05 as Mark Henry decks Finlay with a right hand. Mark clubs with crossfaces to Finlay and goes back to work on the arm, using the rope to his advantage before standing on the arm. The ref asks Finlay if he wishes to continue. Mark Henry comes over and Finlay uses his good arm to strike, but Henry clubs him again. Finlay gets thrown shoulder first to ring post and Henry gets a two count. Mark Henry with an arm wrench on the weak left arm. Finlay uses his right hand to break out, but he runs off the ropes and into Mark Henry’s shoulder. Mark Henry gets a two count as Hornswoggle looks upset. Finlay gets locked up into the rope while backed in the corner. Mark with an arm wrench and another club to the face. Mark Henry stands on Finlay in the corner and misses a really bad looking attempt at a Bonzai Drop. Finlay starts kicking the leg of Mark Henry until he gets thrown out of the ring. Tony Atlas tries to gets involved and he gets clocked by Finlay. Finlay drops Henry throat first on the top rope. Atlas tries to get in the ring, but the ref stops him. Hornswoggle comes off the top rope and Henry catches him. Finlay sweeps the leg and gets a two count. Henry kicks Finlay off and chases the midget. Finlay cuts him off and Henry drives his back into the ring post. Finlay and Hornswoggle rolled into the ring and both avoid a huge splash from Mark Henry. The ref is distracted again and Finlay grabs the shillelagh, decking Henry over the head. Finlay makes the cover, the ref comes over, and Finlay is the #1 contender at 14:42.

Winner: Finlay

Match Rating: ** I didn’t like this match as much as I thought I would. It was very slow for most of the match, including the “fastest” part of the ending. Finlay again can’t win without some Irish wood and lead and Henry again is made to look like a bitch.
