BG Says: FIP Violence is the Answer

Violence is the Answer

April 23, 2005 – Arcadia, Florida

When we last left FIP
Dave Prazak finally got some gold into his camp when Jimmy Rave and Eddie Vegas won the Anything Goes tournament to crown the first FIP Tag Team champions. Steve Madison turned on James Gibson after they were eliminated from contention, leading to a match tonight. Punk and Homicide got into a brawl and will finally end their long running feud in the main event.

Your hosts are Lenny Leonard & Dave Prazak

The new venue FIP is running here makes the company look like every other indy promotion ever. Kind of a bummer. On the plus side the crowd is getting much larger.

Spanky VS. Roderick Strong
They lock up and Spanky grabs a hammerlock. Strong reverses to his own but Spanky gets a leglock. Strong gets to the ropes. They knuckle up and Strong grabs a wristlock. He puts on a headlock but Spanky gets a drop toehold into a leglock. Strong gets to the ropes. Spanky puts on a headlock and hits a hurricanrana. He hits a dropkick and a flying forearm. Strong blocks a hurricanrana and puts on a Boston crab. Spanky gets to the ropes. He hits a back suplex and a kneedrop for 2. He runs Spanky into the turnbuckle for 2. He puts on a camel clutch with nuggy action but Spanky gets to the ropes. Spanky hits a flying forearm but Strong chokes him out in the corner. Spanky dropkicks the knee and hits a big boot. Solid opener that really got the crowd into the show.

Dave Prazak and the new tag champions come out for some promo time. The tag team titles will not be defended in front of low life Arcadia fans. He tells them to go relax in the limo and brings out Ryze. Prazak issues an open challenge, and Antonio Banks answers the call.

Antonio Banks VS. Ryze
Banks plays to the crowd to start. Ryze tries to do the same but they don’t like him. They lock up and Banks overpowers the fat man. They knuckle up and Banks grabs a headlock. His shoulder blocks are useless so he hits a flying forearm. He gets a drop toehold but can’t hit a bodyslam. Ryze hits a vertical suplex and a bodyslam. He puts on a chinlock and hits a kick to the back. He hits a clothesline in the corner but Banks blocks a blind charge. He hits a clothesline but still can’t hit a bodyslam. Ryze hits a clothesline and puts on a surfboard stretch. Banks fights out and both men clothesline each other down. On their feet Banks hits a clothesline and finally hits the bodyslam. He hits the roundhouse kick, which he’s calling Malicious Intent, for the win at 6:27. Ryze seems to be improving, and it seemed like they put a lot of effort into it.
Rating: *3/4

CM Punk comes out for a promo. He’s still in possession of the championship belt and declares that he’s the FIP Champion. Homicide wasn’t man enough to hold onto the belt, and nobody else in the company is championship material. Lenny Leonard grabs the microphone and starts berating Punk for stealing the title. Punk rolls Leonard into the ring but Homicide comes from the back and hits him with a backdrop. He clotheslines Punk out of the ring where Leonard tries to grab the belt but fails. Homicide promises to take his title back.

Sal Rinauro VS. Rainman VS. Jared Steel VS. Kahagas
Before the match Spanky asks Sal to be his protege, and Sal gladly accepts. Sal and Steel lock up but Rainman and Kahagas attack them. Steel and Sal hiptoss and dropkick them out of the ring. Steel puts Sal in a headlock but gets hit with a flying forearm. Kahagas runs in and hits the Osaka Street Cutter on Sal. Rainman runs in and hits the Spine Splitter on Kahagas. Steel comes back and hits a back elbow and a clothesline on Rainman. He hits a hurricanrana and Rainman bails. Kahagas hits him with a big boot. Steel comes back with a flatliner to eliminate Kahagas. Sal comes in and surprises Steel with a roll up to eliminate him. Rainman attacks Sal from behind and hits a blue thunder slam for 2. He hits a dropkick for 2. He hits a back bodydrop and steps on his neck. He chokes Sal on the second rope and puts on a chinlock. He hits a suplex into a uranage for 2. Nothing happens for a while and then Sal hits a hurricanrana. He hits an inverted blockbuster for the win at 7:03. Solid action all the way through, but elimination matches this short make those eliminated early look terrible and Rainman is tough to watch after he runs through his offense.
Rating: **1/4

Fast Eddie Vegas VS. Dunn
The retarded timekeeper is finally recognized by Leonard on commentary. Eddie taunts Dunn but gets armdragged. He puts on a headlock but Dunn powers out. Eddie cuts him off with a clothesline. He hits a backbreaker for 2. Dunn gets a sunset flip for 2. He gets a roll up for 2. Eddie hits a back elbow to stop Dunn’s momentum. He hits a clothesline to the back and jaws with the fans. He sets Dunn on the top rope but Dunn fights him off and hits a flying elbow. He hits a pair of clotheslines and a blue thunder bomb for 2. He hits a torture rack faceplant for 2. Eddie hits a capture legsweep for 2. Dunn comes back with the Gory bomb but Prazak distracts the referee. Jimmy Rave gets on the apron and distracts Dunn long enough for Eddie to get a roll up with a handful of tights and his feet on the ropes for the win at 13:13. Pretty long for those two guys, as they could have fit most of that in half the time.

After the match Rave and Eddie beat on Dunn until Marcos makes the save. He can’t take out DP’s boys so Jerrelle Clark comes out and cleans house. Dunn and Marcos drag Eddie to the back and we have a match ready in the ring.

Jerrelle Clark VS. Jimmy Rave
The referee finds foreign objects in Rave’s elbow pads and a chain in his boot. He also finds a sock in his crotch but I don’t think he uses that for cheating in matches. They lock up and Rave powers Clark to the corner. Clark gets an armdrag and Rave complains of phantom hair pulling. Clark grabs a wristlock but Rave reverses to a hammerlock. He puts on a headlock but Clark powers out and puts Rave on the mat with an armbar. Rave gets to the ropes and hits a neckbreaker. He hits a snap suplex for 2. He puts on a chinlock but Clark fights out. Rave cuts him off with a back elbow for 2. He dumps Clark to the floor and distracts the referee while Prazak destroys the set in the process of stomping on him. Back in the ring Rave gets 2. He sets Clark on the top rope but Clark fights him off. He misses a moonsault and Rave hits a clothesline for 2. Started slow but they struggled to pick it up at the end.

The Heartbreak Express come out for their usual promo. They bring out their sexual equal Don Juan, despite Lenny Leonard’s claims to being on that level. Sean Davis rambles about the beer drinking, television watching, potato chip eating crowd until the Carnage Crew interrupt. They like sitting around and getting drunk, and they want a rematch against the Express to even the score after their loss from the tag tournament. Sean doesn’t want to take advantage since there are three of them and only two Carnage Crew members, but Marcos comes out and joins the team.

The Carnage CrewMarcos VS. Heartbreak ExpressDon Juan
The Carnage Crew and Marcos hit clotheslines to start. They pile up the opposition in a suggestive way and the heels bail. Marcos and Juan get the match organized. They lock up and Juan gets a wristlock. Marcos puts on a seated abdominal stretch and the Carnage Crew do the same to the Heartbreak Express. They play some arm guitar and the heels bail. DeVito and Sean tag in. DeVito kicks his butt and gets the crowd to call him fat. You’re no skinny guinea yourself there DeVito. Phil tags in and hits a back elbow. Sean tags in and gets knocked into Phil. Juan tags in and gets knocked down. Loc tags in and the Crew hit the Carnageplex for 2. Juan comes back with a clothesline and tags to Phil. He gets crotched on the second turnbuckle but keeps Marcos from making the tag. Juan comes in and puts on a sleeper hold. Marcos fights out and hurricanranas Juan into the turnbuckle. Sean cuts off the tag but the Carnage Crew attack. Phil comes in and hits a series of elbowdrops. He puts on a sleeper hold but Marcos goes to the corner to break. Phil puts it back on so Marcos hits a chinbreaker. DeVito gets the tag and cleans house. He hits a dropkick on Sean and a uranage on Phil. He hits Juan with a northern lights suplex for 2. The Carnage Crew and Marcos toss their opponents together in the center of the ring. Juan misses a moonsault on Marcos and gets hit by Loc with a side suplex. The Crew and Marcos hit the Stacker Senton on Juan for the win at 14:08. Pretty good given those involved.

Steve Madison says he turned on James Gibson last night because he’s tired of being overlooked in FIP. He says Gibson was the weak link in the tag team and that’s why they aren’t the champions. Best moment of the night comes when he tells Leonard to button his bottom button and Leonard gives him a lesson in style. Gibson attacks him from behind and we have our match.

Steve Madison VS. James Gibson
Gibson rolls Madison into the ring and hits a back bodydrop. He rams Madison’s head into the turnbuckle and hits a basement dropkick. He hits a bodyslam and a legdrop. He hits a jawbreaker and then the mounted punches. Madison drops Gibson face first on the turnbuckle and chokes him with his shirt. He hits a bodyslam and a kneedrop. He puts on a chinlock but Gibson fights out. He gets a roll up for 2. He hits a neckbreaker and a dropkick for 2. He hits a kneelift and a vertical suplex for 2. He goes for the tiger driver but Madison blocks and hits the Axe Bomber for 2. Gibson blocks a German suplex and gets a roll up for 2. Madison hits an Ace Crusher and a vertical suplex for 2. Gibson blocks the Axe Bomber and hits an inverted DDT. He puts on a butterfly hold and floats into the tiger driver. He locks in the Trailer Hitch but Madison gets to the ropes. Madison pulls a chain out of his tights and wraps it around his fist. Gibson ducks a swing and goes for a back suplex but Madison knocks him out for the win at 10:53. Good stuff that’s probably on par with the better Velocity matches Gibson is having now in the WWE.
Rating: ***1/4

Gibson apologizes to the crowd for letting them down, but promises that he’ll get some payback on Madison the next time FIP rolls through Arcadia.

FIP Title Match
Homicide VS. CM Punk [Anything Goes Match]

This is the end of the feud, so I think it’s time for a history lesson. Punk and Homicide fought in the finals of the tournament to crown the first FIP Champion. Homicide won but the match was such a brawl that a falls count anywhere rematch was signed. Homicide won that match after a romp through a strip club, but Punk was not to be denied. He stole Homicide’s championship belt after a title defense against Antonio Banks at ROH Do or Die IV. He then claimed to be the champion and “defended” the belt against James Gibson and Bryan Danielson. Homicide returned to FIP and attacked Punk during the tag tournament and will finally get his chance to both get his belt back and fight Punk off once and for all.

Punk runs from Homicide to start. He finally gets into the ring and they lock up. Homicide chops him in the corner and he bails. Back in the ring Punk grabs a headlock. He powers Homicide to the corner and smacks him. Homicide unloads with chops and slugs Punk out of the ring. Back in the ring Punk goes back to the headlock but Homicide takes him to the mat and puts on an armbar. He puts on a chinlock and … did Punk just lose a tooth? Punk gets out with a chinbreaker but Homicide comes back with a kneedrop from the second rope for 2. He hits a neckbreaker for 2. Milo distracts Homicide and Punk tags him with a leg lariat. He hits a head wringer and chokes him on the second rope. He hits a backbreaker for 2. He slingshots Homicide into the bottom rope and Milo gets out of his wheelchair to beat on him. Punk comes out to the floor and hits Homicide with a backdrop. He chokes Homicide with a chair and chops him against the post. Homicide rolls a trash can into him and then drops it on his back. He smacks Punk with the lid and rolls him back into the ring. Punk hits a bodyslam and sets the chair up in the corner. He puts on a sleeper hold but Homicide has a conniption fit and fights out. Punk cuts him off with a knee to the gut and chokes away. Homicide blocks an Irish whip into the corner but Punk outmaneuvers him and Homicide hits the chair headfirst. Punk tries for it again but Homicide reverses and Punk goes through the chair on his way to the floor. Back in the ring Homicide hits a bulldog onto the chair for 2. He climbs the ropes but Punk cuts him off and hits a superplex. Homicide thugs up and does his ghetto Hogan impression. He hits a back bodydrop and Punk bails. Homicide follows him out with a tope and the set falls apart again. Back in the ring Homicide hits the Ace Crusher for 2. He hits an overhead suplex for 2. Punk comes back with a stun gun for 2. Homicide blocks a blind charge but walks into a powerslam for 2. Punk climbs the ropes but Homicide cuts him off. Punk fights him away but misses a legdrop from the top. Milo tosses Punk the title belt but Homicide ducks the shot. There’s a tug of war for the belt and Homicide hits a clothesline for 2 when Milo pulls the referee out of the ring. Homicide pulls Milo into the ring and Punk accidentally whacks him with the belt. Homicide gets a roll up for 2. Punk goes for a pedigree on the belt but Homicide reverses to a piledriver on it for the win at 16:13. Really fun match with a great finish. They couldn’t go crazy with violence because of the amount of kids in the crowd, but found a perfect way to end the feud. I may be overrating this, but I dig the way everything played out.
Rating: ***3/4

After the match Homicide beats up Milo Beasely when he goes for the title and takes his belt back. He celebrates with the kids at ringside and dubs them the 187 Stick Up Kids. Excellent.

The 411: BG Says

This show is excellent by FIP standards. None of the matches are bad and the show is bookended with very solid stuff. The Homicide/Punk feud ended in a satisfying way and even the Carnage Crew put some effort into their match. The Saturday show blessing continues here, getting a strong recommendation from me. You can pick up this show at Ring of Honor's wrestling store.
