BG Says: FIP Second Year Spectacular Night Two

When we last left FIP
The YRR continued their dominant ways by defeating Sal Rinauro, Seth Delay and Roderick Strong. Strong, for his part, laid claim to an FIP title shot and so did Davey Richards. Dave Prazak responded by debuting two new monsters in DP Associates in Cyber Kong and Delirious. Also, the Heartbreak Express goaded the Black Market into a tag title rematch with a twist.
This review is going to be quite abbreviated. I got through almost the entire show with the exception of the main event when my computer flipped out on me and everything was lost. I just can’t bring myself to do play by play for the whole again so aside from the main event everything is just going to have results, thoughts and ratings. My apologies.

VS. 
Kong defeated the Cougar in 7:03 with the TKO. This was just an extended squash for Kong. After the match Prazak and Kong both beat up the Cougar with the pineapple.

King and Rance defeated Rinauro and Delay after Madison punched Rinauro with a chain and Rance rolled him up at 11:26. This was a solid tag team match from the always-consistent YRR. After the match Erick Stevens attacked Madison, leading to their match.

Clark defeated Moore with the powerdriver at 5:35. This should have been a quick squash for Clark but for some reason Moore controlled most of the match. Clark did get to hit all of his signature moves, and since they’re pretty this was worth something I guess.

VS. 
[Number 1 Contenders’ Match]
The Briscoes attacked Clark after his match and demanded a tag title shot. This brought out Cabana who logically assumed that since the Heartbreak Express are the tag champs again he deserves another tag title shot. Davey Richards came out to complain about FIP Champion Bryan Danielson dodging him and said that if he can’t go for the heavyweight belt now he might as well go for the tag titles. The Briscoes picked up the win at 14:02 after hitting Cabana with the top rope legdrop/cutthroat driver combo. This match was a lot of fun. It’s also another notch in the Briscoes’ belts against Richards, which is a touch that I really enjoy.

Okay, this match gets the normal treatment. Again, my apologies for the earlier matches getting the shaft. Delirious freaks out at the bell and then stalls for a long while. Why does that sound familiar? The match gets underway with Strong and Delirious knuckling up. Delirious gets the worst of it and goes to the ropes. Strong puts on a wristlock but Delirious reverses to one of his own. Strong gets an armbar and pins Delirious for 1. He goes after the leg and pins Delirious for 1. He puts on a headlock and Delirious bleeds from his lip. Strong hits a leg lariat and Delirious crawls under the ring. He comes out on the other side but Strong sees him and chops him on the floor. Jared David talks about a Strong/Evans vs. Danielson/Aries match from a past show that has yet to be released on DVD, much to my dismay. Back in the ring Strong goes for a suplex but Prazak grabs his leg and Delirious gets a crossbody for 2. Delirious chokes Strong with one of his tassels and gets 2 back in the ring. Strong hits a back heel kick and a crossbody for 2. Delirious hits a chinbreaker but Strong comes back with a sunset flip for 2. Delirious rakes Strong’s eyes on the top rope and hits the Neverending Story clotheslines. He hits a bulldog for 2. He puts on a chinlock and hits a knee to the gut. He goes for Shadows Over Hell but Strong catches him with an overhead superplex. Strong hits a clothesline and a back elbow. He hits a dropkick and a falcon arrow for 2. He hits a sidewalk backbreaker for 2. He sets Delirious up top but Prazak grabs his foot. Delirious fights him off and hits Shadows Over Hell for 2. He hits a cobra clutch backbreaker and puts on the Cobra Stretch but Strong gets to the ropes. Delirious misses the Panic Attack and Strong hits a back suplex on the apron for 2. Delirious blocks a blind charge and hits a dropkick to the back. Delirious sets him up top and hits a neckbreaker for 2 when Strong grabs the bottom rope. Strong blocks the cobra clutch and sets Delirious up top. He hits a superplex for 2. He goes for the Stronghold and then pins Delirious for 2. Delirious gets a roll up for 2. Delirious hits the Panic Attack and the Bizarro Driver for 2. He puts on the Cobra Stretch but Strong gets to the ropes. Strong hits the gutbuster, the Sick Kick and the tiger driver for the win at 23:50. This was very similar to Delirious’ match against Richards from the night before. Strong’s offense was the only real difference as the structure was almost identical. It loses points for lacking originality but gains points because I’m a sucker for Strong’s offense. The first half of the match was a little dull but the second half was mile-a-minute action.

The 411:  The tag title match is a black eye on this show, but everything else is good-very good. Strong and Richards have been firmly solidified as the top contenders for the title and the Heartbreak Express/Black Market feud looks to be mercifully ended soon. The YRR continue their fun run, but I really want to see a decisive blow off in the Madison/Stevens feud soon. You can pick up this DVD at FullImpactPro.com or ROHWrestling.com.
