BG Says: SHIMMER Women Athletes – Volume 3

Volume 3

I’m going back in time to tackle the only SHIMMER DVD I haven’t reviewed yet. Since I waited so long to get this DVD I ended up with the Big Vision Entertainment version, which comes with DVD artwork that is slightly more flashy and has a music video that helps us get to know the women of SHIMMER a little bit better. It also has music videos from New Age Records and previews of other Big Vision releases, but we’re not concerned with any of that.

Dave Prazak hosts the show solo while Allison Danger prepares for Rebecca Knox.

Rain VS. Nikki Roxx
No entrances for the ladies in the opener.
Rain kicks things off with a wristlock. Roxx comes back with a roll up for 2. Roxx hits a clothesline and a back elbow. She hits a hurricanrana for 2. Rain hits a lung blower for 2. She hits a dropkick to the back for 2. She hits a forearm for 2. It’s hard to describe just how unconvincing the Irish whips in this match are. Rain hits a neckbreaker for 2. She puts on a chinlock but Roxx gets to the ropes. Roxx gets a sunset flip for 2. Rain hits a clothesline, which Roxx sells like complete garbage. Honestly, she just sat down. It gets 2 anyway. Rain hits another clothesline for 2. She goes for the Acid Rain but has to settle for a forearm for 2. Roxx counters the Rain Drop into a northern lights suplex for 2. She hits a flying forearm and a dropkick. She hits another northern lights suplex for 2. She counters the Acid Rain to a victory roll for 2. Rain comes back and connects with the Acid Rain for the win at 9:14. That wasn’t pretty. Roxx has come a long way since this but man, it was tough to watch. This gets points only for the good looking reversal of the Rain Drop and the fire shown in the last thirty seconds of the match.
Rating: ½*

Cindy Rogers VS. Amber O’Neal VS. Tiana Ringer [Elimination Match]
The lack of entrances in the first match proves to be no loss here, as all the original entrance music is dubbed over with generic crap. O’Neal stalls a plenty to start. Rogers tries to fight both opponents, hitting a double dropkick and striking everyone down. Ringer holds Rogers for O’Neal but gets hit herself. Rogers hits a back suplex on O’Neal and gets roll up on Ringer for 2 when Rogers breaks it up with a roll up of her own. They keep breaking up one another’s roll ups, completely throwing away any good faith I might have given them. O’Neal bails and Rogers hits a legsweep on Ringer for 2. She hits one on O’Neal for 2. Ringer and O’Neal make sure neither get pinned, which is alright but doesn’t change the fact that they were helping Rogers out during that roll up debacle. Ringer and O’Neal double-team Rogers in the corner. The crowd is so quiet during the match that we can actually hear someone’s cell phone going off. Rogers sends Ringer to the floor and hits O’Neal with the X-Factor to eliminate her at 5:03. As a heel it made no sense for Ringer’s presence on the floor to preoccupy O’Neal the way it did. Rogers drags Ringer into the ring but gets caught in a bodyslam. It gets 2 for Ringer. Rogers goes after the neck for 2. She gets a roll up for 2. Ringer hits a spinebuster for 2. Rogers comes back with… something, for 2. She mercifully puts Ringer away with the TCB at 7:22. This was amateur hour, in that it felt like they were falling asleep on each other for an hour when it was really only seven minutes.
Rating: DUD

Lorelei Lee VS. Malia Hosaka
They lock up and Hosaka grabs a front facelock. She puts her legs on the ropes for leverage. Lee comes back with an armdrag into an armbar. She puts on a cross armbreaker but Hosaka escapes. Hosaka hits a clothesline for 2. She hits a big boot and puts on a camel clutch. Lee comes back with a sunset flip for 1. Hosaka hits a roundhouse kick and tosses Lee across the ring by her hair. Hosaka’s gimmick seems to be that she’s a cartoon witch. She goes for a splash but Lee gets her knees up for 2. Lee hits a clothesline and a back elbow. She hits a dropkick for 2. She puts on a camel clutch and then stomps on Hosaka’s back. She goes back to the camel clutch but Hosaka counters to a pin for 2. Lee kicks Hosaka away and puts on a figure 4 leglock. Hosaka gets to the ropes so Lee pulls her away and puts the hold back on. Hosaka goes to the hair to escape. She hits a dropkick but Lee comes back with a vertical suplex. Lee hits a standing moonsault for 2. Hosaka puts on the body scissors and rolls Lee over for 2. She does it twice more and uses the ropes for leverage for 2. Lee escapes and rolls Hosaka up for the win at 11:54. Nothing embarrassing here (except for the poorly executed finish), which is all I ever hope for from these two.
Rating: **

After the match Lexie Fyfe runs out and beats on Lee with Hosaka. They hit her with a double clothesline and continue the beating until Cindy Rogers makes the save.

Lexie Fyfe VS. MsChif
You know MsChif beat up Jacob Ziegler once. She overpowers Fyfe to start. She put on a dragon sleeper but Fyfe counters to a wristlock. MsChif gets a backslide for 2. She gets a legsweep for 2. She hits a vertical suplex for 2. She puts on a modified Mutalock but Fyfe gets to the ropes. MsChif puts on the Christo but Fyfe slams her to the mat. Fyfe puts on a camel clutch and hits a pair of rolling vertical suplexes for 2. She puts on a Boston crab but gets caught in a roll up for 2. She puts on a pendulum hold and then grabs the kayak. MsChif comes back with chops in the corner and hits a series of double stomps to the back. She puts on a camel clutch in the ropes as Cheerleader Melissa comes out to ringside. She distracts MsChif long enough for Fyfe to escape the Desecrator. MsChif hits the Gateway to Annihilation for 2. Melissa trips MsChif and Fyfe hits the Attitude Adjuster for the win at 10:37. Slow and overbooked.
Rating: *¾

Shantelle Taylor VS. Cheerleader Melissa
Taylor dodges Melissa’s offense to start. She puts on a headlock and holds on through some of Melissa’s attempts to escape. Melissa finally counters to a hammerlock but Taylor gets to the ropes. They trade wristlocks in an exchange that Melissa wins. Taylor armdrags Melissa to the floor and almost has a naked moment. She chases Melissa on the floor but gets caught with boots back in the ring. Melissa hits a forearm so Taylor responds in kind. Taylor hits a handspring elbow but Melissa comes back with an Ocean Cyclone suplex. Taylor counters the Kudo Driver to a roll up for 2. She gets another roll up for 2. Melissa puts her down with a clothesline and hits a bodyslam. She hits an elbowdrop for 2. She puts on an inverted cloverleaf but Taylor gets to the ropes. She puts on a surfboard stretch but Taylor powers out and they trade chops. Taylor hits a pair of dropkicks and a leg lariat for 2. She climbs the ropes but Melissa crotches her. They fight on the turnbuckle for a good long time before Melissa hits the Air Raid Crash for the win at 17:39. They had a lot of time and didn’t fill it with much, but what they did was accomplished with precision.
Rating: **½

Rebecca Knox VS. Allison Danger
They knuckle up to start. Some chain wrestling leads to Knox holding Danger in an armbar. The chains continue until Knox gets a near fall for 2 and puts on a chinlock. Five minutes in and they’re still working the mat. Knox puts on a leglock but Danger counters to one of her own. They roll around the ring exchanging leglocks until Knox rolls into the ropes and stands up. Knox puts on another chinlock but Danger rolls back for 2. Knox gets a crucifix pin for 2. She puts on another leglock but Danger reverses it. We’re ten minutes in now and Knox is sticking with the leg work. Danger hits a hiptoss and an armdrag into an armbar. Knox hurts her ankle after a leapfrog and the match grinds to a halt. One thing I’ve never liked about wrestling is the inconsistency in conditions after “injuries”. Sometimes the match goes on and the wrestlers work it into the match, and sometimes the match stops. In this match the action is put on hold until we realize that Knox was faking it and she attacks Danger from behind. Dave Prazak could not be more disgusted. Knox hits a vertical suplex and gets 2 with her feet on the ropes. Danger starts to fire back but Knox cuts her off with a knee to the gut. She hits a legdrop for 2. Danger gets a roll up for 2. Knox hits a dropkick for 2. She hits a fisherman neckbreaker for 2. Danger gets another roll up for 2. Knox hits a European uppercut but Danger comes back with another roll up for 2. She hits a side Russian legsweep but can’t cover. She hits a clothesline and a neckbreaker for 2. Knox hits a T-bone suplex for 2. Danger hits the STO for 2. Knox dodges the Shimmerick Warlock and hits a cradle falcon arrow for the win at 22:54. There’s nothing wrong with a completely mat based match, but it’s just not the kind of thing that excites me. The second half of the match after Knox’s fake injury was really just there to get her over as the top heel, and it did a good job of that.
Rating: ***

Daizee Haze VS. Sara Del Ray
Clips of Haze and Del Rey as the last two wrestlers in the four corner elimination match from Volume 2 are shown before the match. They lock up and Del Rey puts Haze on the mat. They trade holds and Haze gets a roll up for 2. The fans get on Del Rey’s case for not being able to nip up, and her attempt to prove them wrong is somewhat pathetic. Referee Bryce Remsburg actually has a nicer one. Del Rey thinks about leaving but Bryce apologizes for upstaging her and the fans beg her to return. Back in the ring Del Rey stretches out Haze’s back but Haze counters to a stranglehold. Del Rey returns fire with strikes and a backbreaker for 2. She shrugs off a bulldog and hits a kneedrop for 2. She puts on a headlock but Haze escapes with a hurricanrana. Haze hits a dropkick and gets a roll up for 2. She gets an ugly roll up for 2. Del Rey hits a bodyslam and a pair of butt splashes. She catapults Haze into the bottom rope for 2. She puts on a camel clutch but Haze bites her hand to escape. They trade strikes in the corner until Del Rey hits a pair of big boots. She catches a crossbody and hits a fall away slam for 2. She puts on a chinlock but Haze escapes and gets a roll up for 2. Del Rey hits a clothesline for 2. Haze counters a powerbomb to a roll up for 2. Del Rey dodges the Yakuza kick and knocks Haze down with a butt thrust. Haze gets another roll up for 2. She hits a huge roundhouse kick for 2. She climbs the ropes and hits a dropkick. She hits the heart punch but Del Rey counters the Yakuza kick to a powerbomb attempt. Haze counters that to a hurricanrana for 2. Del Rey counters the Mind Trip to a German suplex for the win at 19:47. They finished really strong after a more light-hearted start. Haze was far more on her game than usual, and it helped this match out a lot.
Rating: ***¼

Backstage Del Rey says she proved tonight that she’s the number wrestler in SHIMMER. She wants a rematch with Mercedes Martinez with no time limit so she can prove without a doubt that she’s the best.

MsChif and Cheerleader Melissa have agreed to a Falls Count Anywhere rematch.

Daizee Haze has heard a lot about Rebecca Knox, but she’s offended by the evil Irish tactics she used against Allison Danger. Her words, not mine. She challenges Knox to a match on Volume 4.

The 411BG Says

The first thing you need to ignore when watching Big Vision versions of SHIMMER shows is the annoying horn sound that is repeated during every single entrance. After that you have to get through a lot of bad-mediocre matches to get to the really good main event. Even the Haze/Del Rey match isn’t really enough to save the show. I guess this sort of disproves the odd show/even show theory, and reveals that the night that volumes 3 & 4 were filmed was an off night for most of these ladies.
