BG Says: FIP Evening the Odds 2005 & Attack of the Masked FIPPERs

Evening the Odds 2005 & Attack of the Masked FIPPERs

For a long time Evening the Odds 2005 had been on FIP’s merchandise page as “Coming Soon.” The show was recently released not as a DVD, but rather as a DVD-R. The packaging wasn’t quite up to the standard that most FIP DVDs met and the bottom line is that DVD-Rs are more sensitive than DVDs and by the time you get the things home from a show or by the time it gets to you through the mail it would usually be in too rough a condition to watch. This isn’t always the case, but for my own part I had to do a little work on the disc to get it to play fully. As such ROH and I believe FIP as well ran a recall on the DVD-R. The replacement was a release on a standard DVD of both Evening the Odds 2005 as well as the previously unreleased Attack of the Masked FIPPERs. This was great news to FIP completists such as myself. The only complaint I have is that the double shot actually skips over Florida Rumble 2005, so hopefully that will be released as part of a seperate dual release. At any rate, here’s a review of the double shot package, starting with Evening the Odds 2005.

Evening the Odds 2005

November 12, 2005 – Brooksville, Florida

When we last left FIP
Sal Rinauro couldn’t team with Colt Cabana so he recruited Davey Andrews to challenge (and subsequently fail in trying) for the tag titles. DP Associates dominated throughout the show, as new DP Associate Bryan Danielson & Jimmy Rave defeated Roderick Strong & Tony Mamaluke and Adam Pearce, Austin Aries & Shane Hagadorn defeated Chasyn Rance, Seth Delay & Altar Boy Luke. In the main event Sean Waltman halted DP Associates from completely controlling the show when he pinned Austin Aries.

Dave Prazak & Jared David tackle commentary on this DVD.

Erick Stevens VS. Pelle Primeau
Primeau opens up with slaps and forearms. He hits a pair of armdrags and a dropkick. Stevens hits an overhead suplex and chops Primeau in the corner. He hits a back suplex and headbutts Primeau down. He hits a knee to the gut and puts on a seated full nelson. He goes to the eyes and hits a bodyslam. He misses a senton and Primeau gets a sunset flip for 2. He gets a roll up for 2. He gets a crucifix pin for 2. Stevens hits another knee to the gut but Primeau comes back with a swinging DDT. Stevens hits a lariat and the Sarasota Screwdriver for the win at 4:27. Primeau really needed to have his hand held at this point and Stevens wasn’t yet capable of doing that.
Rating: *

Seth Delay VS. Derrick Dempsey
They lock up and Dempsey grabs a headlock. Delay regains control with a variety of holds and then hits an armdrag. He gets a headlock takedown and then hits another armdrag into an armbar. Dempsey hits a series of armdrags and puts on an armbar. Delay hits a dropkick and a vertical suplex. He hits a bodyslam and a forearm drop for 2. He puts on a chinlock but Dempsey escapes. Delay hits a forearm in the corner but Dempsey comes back with a belly-to-belly suplex. He hits a back bodydrop and a clothesline. He hits a bodyslam and a legdrop. He hits two more legdrops for 2. Things get really ugly until Delay hits a leaping forearms for 2. Dempsey hits a northern lights suplex for 2. He hits a fisherman suplex for 2. Delay hits a cradle DDT for the win at 8:48. Dempsey looked very green and Delay didn’t do much to help the match look more professional.
Rating: ¾*

The Heartbreak Express and So Cal Val come out to express their anger towards Davey Andrews for spanking Val the night before. Andrews comes out and asks for a fight. Sean Davis gives him a fight in the form of Kory Chavis.

Kory Chavis VS. Davey Andrews
Andrews ducks a clothesline and opens up with forearms. He hits a back elbow and a bodyslam. He hits a dropkick but Chavis comes back with a spinebuster. He puts on a chinlock and slugs Andrews down for 2. Andrews gets a sunset flip for 2. Chavis misses a dropkick and Andrews gets 2. Andrews hits a clothesline and a back suplex for 2. Chavis comes back with a sit-out powerslam for 2. He hits a back elbow but Andrews comes back with a missile dropkick for 2. Sean Davis trips Andrews and Chavis hits a pumphandle powerbomb for the win at 6:35. I never did like Davey Andrews, and this didn’t change my opinion of him one bit. Poor Chavis is never going to get a real shot in FIP.
Rating: *½

After the match the Davises attack Andrews until Sal Rinauro makes the save. He fights off Chavis and challenges the Davises to a match. Phil ends up doing the work solo.

Sal Rinauro VS. Phil Davis
Phil attacks Sal before the bell. Sal fights back but Sean trips him. Sal goes after Sean and ends up knocking him into Phil. He puts Sean in a headlock and hits a dropkick and a head scissors takedown on Phil. Phil hits a kidney shot and Sean hits a low blow from the floor. Sal regains control with a back bodydrop and Phil bails. After some stalling Phil gets back in the ring and gets slapped on his bottom. Phil slugs Sal down and hits a butterfly suplex. He goes to the eyes repeatedly and slugs him down in the corner. Sean goes for an avalanche but Sal dodges it and hits Phil with Sliced Bread #2 off of Sean for the win at 6:36. Sean tried to break up the pin with an elbowdrop but was too fat and slow and then ended up elbowdropping Phil. This was complete crab by the way, as the match was less than seven minutes but was still full of stalling.
Rating: ¼*

After the match Phil and Sean attack Sal but Roderick Strong and Tony Mamaluke make the save. Strong brings up the 5-on-5 main event against DP Associates tonight and asks Sal to be his partner. Strong now has three. Sean Waltman rolls into the ring and asks to join the team. DP Associates rushes the ring and attack our heroes. Everyone fights until only Waltman and Shane Hagadorn are left in the ring. A match starts from this.

Sean Waltman VS. Shane Hagadorn
Hagadorn starts in control but Waltman quickly fights back. Hagadorn dodges the Bronco Buster and Waltman crotches himself on the turnbuckle, giving Hagadorn 2. Hagadorn uses the ropes to his advantage and distracts the referee so Prazak can get a shot in. Hagadorn puts on a sleeper hold but Waltman fights out and hits a back suplex. He hits a roundhouse kick, the Bronco Buster and the X-Factor for the win at 3:16. This was just a squash. I’m wondering if there was any intention of trying to have any good matches before the main event.

”Steve VS. Jerrelle Clark
They lock up and Clark grabs a headlock. Madison hits a knee to the gut but walks into an armdrag. Clark hits a leg lariat and an armdrag into an armbar. Madison goes for the ropes so Clark slams him to the mat. Madison puts on a top wristlock but Clark counters back to the armbar. Madison rakes his back but Clark low bridges him to the floor and chases him around the ring. Back inside Clark hits a back bodydrop and a hiptoss. He hits a dropkick but Madison comes back with a neckbreaker. Madison hits a kneedrop and puts on a chinlock. He hits an elbowdrop but Clark comes back with a roll up for 2. Madison cuts off his momentum with a back elbow. He hits a pair of kneedrops to the back of the neck and puts on a camel clutch. He misses two elbowdrops but then fakes one and stomps on Clark. He puts on a chinlock and hits a DDT for 2. He climbs the ropes and hits a legdrop off the second rope. Clark hits a hurricanrana and a monkey flip. He hits a running shooting star press for 2. He dodges a blind charge and does some flippy nonsense that does no damage and that Prazak calls him out on before rolling Madison up for the win at 9:39. This was just barely better than the rest of the matches so far.
Rating: *¾

After the match Erick Stevens runs out and the Miracle Violence Connection beat Clark down. Strong and Mamaluke make the save and recruit Clark for their team. Prazak is very upset about that addition.

LaDuke Jakes VS. Jaison MooreEvan Starsmore
Moore and Starsmore try to beat Jakes down in the corner. Jakes fights them off and hits a big boot on Starsmore and a clothesline on Moore. He hits a bodyslam and an elbowdrop on Moore for 2. He hits the DVD on Starsmore for the win at 1:47. This was a total embarrassment of a match, and so short that it’s inclusion on the show completely baffles me.
Rating: DUD

Black Market VS. Altar Boy LukeMasked Fipper #6
This is Fipper #6 for the record. Luke and Machete start. Machete grabs a headlock but Luke gets a takedown and tags to the Fipper. They hit a double shoulder block for 2. The Fipper bumps into the referee while running the ropes and Murphy knocks him down. Luke kicks Murphy down and gets a head scissors takedown on Machete. He dropkicks Machete for 2. Murphy crotches Luke around the post and tags in. He hits a gorilla press slam and a spinebuster for 2. Machete tags in and rams Luke into Murphy’s boot. Luke hits a spinning kick but Murphy keeps him from tagging out. Murphy tags in and hits a bodyslam. He climbs the ropes but Luke crotches him and brings him down with a hurricanrana. The Fipper tags in and gets Murphy to clothesline Machete. Murphy and Machete quickly come back with the Blackout for the win at 6:19. Luke played a decent face in peril, but the Fipper’s lack of skill was shameful.

Elimination Match
Roderick StrongSean WaltmanSal RinauroJerrelle ClarkTony Mamaluke VS.
Bryan DanielsonSamoa JoeAustin AriesAdam PearceJimmy Rave

That DP Associates team is very impressive, boasting three former ROH World Champions. Mamaluke and Danielson start. They lock up and Danielson shoves Mamaluke down. Mamaluke shoves him back and puts on a headlock. He hits a hiptoss and Danielson bails. Danielson and Mamaluke waste a ton of time until Pearce and Strong tag in. He hits a back bodydrop for 2. Aries gets beat up in the wrong corner and Strong gets 2. Sal tags in and hits an elbowdrop. He drops a series of knees on Aries’s back and hits a backbreaker for 2. He hits a tomahawk chop for 2. Aries goes to the eyes and tags to Danielson. Danielson chokes Sal in the ropes and tags to Pearce. Pearce puts on a full nelson and slams Sal to the mat by his hair. Rave tags in and hits mounted punches. He hits a neckbreaker for 2. Sal hits a stunner and tags to Mamaluke. Joe tags in and clotheslines Rave by mistake. Mamaluke puts the guillotine on Rave but Joe kicks his back and pulls him into the choke to eliminate him at 15:45. Waltman comes in for his team and gets crotched in the corner. He distracts the referee while the rest of his team chokes Waltman. He washes Waltman’s face and Danielson slams him against the apron. Rave tags in and pins Waltman for 2. He puts on a chinlock but Waltman comes back with a sunset flip. Rave hits a clothesline and tags to Aries. Aries and Rave hit a double back elbow and Aries hits an elbowdrop for 2. Joe hits a cheap shot on Waltman but Waltman counters Aries’s brainbuster to a roll up for the elimination at 19:20. Rave comes in for his team and puts a sleeper hold on Waltman. Waltman fights out and hits the Bronco Buster. Joe comes in and takes out Waltman’s knee with a chair, drawing the disqualification at 20:57. Things break down as Rave puts a figure 4 leglock on Waltman. Danielson adds some pressure to the hold with the referee distracted. Waltman rolls over and Rave gets to the ropes. Danielson tags in and Garvin stomps Waltman. He drapes Waltman’s leg onto the bottom rope and sits on it. He puts on a nasty leglock and Waltman gives up at 24:14.

Pearce and Danielson hit the Hart Attack on Sal for 2. Pearce dumps Sal to the floor where Milo Beasley hits an elbowdrop. Back in the ring Sal rolls Pearce up for 2. Pearce hits a clothesline and a back bodydrop. He pulls Sal’s hair and drops his face on the top turnbuckle. Rave tags in and gouges at Sal’s eyes. He slams Sal to the mat for 2. He hits a bodyslam and tags to Pearce. Pearce comes off the top with a splash for 2 when Strong saves. Sal catches him with the step up legdrop to eliminate him at 29:20. Rave comes in and puts on a front facelock. Danielson keeps the referee from seeing Strong tag in and Sal ends up pinned for 2. Danielson tags in and hits a bodyslam. He climbs the ropes but misses the diving headbutt. Strong tags in and cleans house. He knocks Prazak off the apron and hits a back bodydrop on Danielson. He hits a backbreaker on Rave and tags to Sal. Sal comes off the top with an axe handle to the arm. Strong tags in and does the same. Strong and Sal hit a double hiptoss for 2. Strong puts on a hammerlock and pins Danielson for 2. Sal tags in and with Strong double dropkicks Danielson to the floor. Back in the ring Sal gets 2. Sal hits a bodyslam and climbs the ropes. He hits a single axe handle off the top and the Earthquake splash for 2. Strong tags in and hits a slingshot splash for 2. You don’t see that out of him very often. He hits a bodyslam and climbs the ropes. He hits a flying elbowdrop for 2. Sal tags in and hits the Worm for 2. Rave tags in and chokes Sal with his wrist tape. He puts on a chinlock but Sal fights out. Rave rolls him up with his feet on the ropes to eliminate him at 37:12. Rave and Danielson hit a double clothesline on Strong. Strong goes for a sunset flip but Rave grabs the ropes to block. The referee kicks his arms off the ropes in the dumbest spot ever in wrestling so I’ve decided not to do play by play for the rest of the match. The last two eliminations see Strong hit the half nelson backbreaker on Rave to put him out at 43:05 and then finish Danielson off with the Sick Kick and the half nelson backbreaker at 49:51. Most of the match was good fun and the final ten minutes when all the drama was on Strong was very entertaining. Unfortunately, while this match may actually have had stronger talent than its successor it didn’t have as strong a story or as interesting workrate.

And with that rough experience out of the way let’s take a look at:

Attack of the Masked FIPPERs

December 10, 2005 – Brooksville, Florida

At Florida Rumble 2005
Jimmy Rave became the second man to win the Florida Rumble, but fell to FIP Heavyweight Champion Homicide later in the show, despite Homicide’s shoulder injury. The rest of the show was highlighted by matches determined by the Florida Rumble’s elimination sequence. Other highlights of the show saw the Heartbreak Express retain their tag titles against the wacky team of Azrieal and Adam Pearce after Pearce predictably turned on his enemy Azrieal. Pearce later challenged Sean Waltman to a match and in another predictable turn, lost.

Dave Prazak & Jared David take another turn on commentary.

The Heartbreak Express, So Cal Val and Kory Chavis come out to start the show. Sean Davis says that once again they will not be defending the tag team titles tonight. They do want to wrestle tonight so they’re going to do it against the Masked FIPPERs #7 and #8. The FIPPERs are very generic looking and both look uncomfortable in their own skin. Colt Cabana and Sal Rinauro come out and demand that the Davises defend their titles tonight. Rinauro reminds us that he pinned Phil last month, so he and Cabana should get the title shot. Val says that if both Cabana and Rinauro can win singles matches against opponents of her choosing tonight then they’ll get a title match in the main event of the show. If either of them lose they get no shot, and she sweetens the pot by offering anyone who can beat Cabana or Rinauro 1,000 dollars and a date with her. Cabana and Rinauro accept. It is assumed that if Cabana or Rinauro lose then the Heartbreak Express will still get their non-title match against the FIPPERs.

Roderick Strong VS. Bryan Danielson
Danielson demanded this match so that he could get revenge for the loss in the elimination match from Evening the Odds 2005. If ever there was a better way to start a show I can’t think of it. Danielson slaps Strong to start. Strong shoves him down and hits a shoulder tackle, prompting him to bail. Back in the ring they knuckle up and Danielson kicks Strong’s gut. He hits a European uppercut and puts on a chinlock. Strong escapes and Danielson bails, taking advantage of Strong after he gives chase. He goes after the arm but Strong comes back with an atomic drop. He chops Danielson down so Danielson bails again. Back in the ring Danielson asks for a handshake and Strong gives it to him, but he squeezes very tight and stomps on Danielson’s hand. He hits a hiptoss for 2. He hits a snapmare for 2. He puts on a headlock but Danielson escapes and gets a backslide for 2. Strong puts the headlock back on but Danielson escapes again and hits a back elbow. He hits a senton (the only time I’ve ever seen him use that) and hits the thigh stomp. He hits a kneedrop for 2. He puts on a chinlock and chokes Strong in the ropes. He distracts the referee and Prazak gets a few shots in. Strong tricks Danielson into crotching himself on the middle rope and then pulls the rope until Danielson falls off, getting 2. Strong hits a crossbody off the second rope for 2. Danielson hits a clothesline and a vertical suplex for 2. He puts on a chinlock but Strong fights out and hits a monkey flip. Danielson bails and pulls Strong to the floor. He shoves Strong into the post and rolls him back into the ring. He stands on Strong’s throat but Strong comes back with a brainbuster. He goes for a slingshot splash but Danielson gets his knees up. Danielson hits a butterfly suplex for 2. He hits another senton for 2. Strong rolls him up for 2. Danielson stomps on Strong and pulls his nose. He hits a bodyslam and chokes Strong. He climbs the ropes but misses the diving headbutt. Strong hits a clothesline and a back elbow. He hits a dropkick for 2. Danielson goes to the eyes but Strong catches him with another clothesline. He hits the uranage backbreaker for 2. He hits a bodyslam and climbs the ropes. He misses a flying elbowdrop and Danielson puts on the figure 4 leglock. Prazak gives Danielson some added leverage but Strong turns the hold over and Danielson scrambles to the ropes. Strong gets a sunset flip for 2. They trade roll ups until Danielson climbs the ropes. Strong cuts him off and hits a superplex for 2. He hits the gutbuster but Prazak distracts him and Danielson hits the roaring forearm and a German suplex for the win at 22:06. This was about on the level of their FIP title match from late 2006, which is to say it wasn’t up to the level of their ROH matches but still quite good by FIP standards at the time.
Rating: ***½

After the match Strong hits Danielson with the Sick Kick. He goes after Prazak but Jimmy Rave and Adam Pearce run out and beat Strong down. Sean Waltman and Azrieal make the save, but Prazak throws powder in their eyes. Rave and Pearce hit Azrieal with a spike piledriver, setting up a tag match for later in the evening.

Seth DelayvKahagasvChasyn RancevJaison MoorevBenny Blanco
This would be the first Five Way Frenzy match, which is under the same elimination and tornado rules as a Four Way Fray match. Everyone brawls to start. Blanco and Kahagas hit a double hiptoss on Moore. Rance and Delay hit dropkicks on Blanco and Kahagas. There’s a little too much going on to recap until Kahagas hits Moore with the Osaka Street Cutter. He tosses Delay to the floor but Blanco clotheslines him to the floor… sort of. He hits a standing moonsault to eliminate him at 1:23. Kahagas pulls Blanco out. Rance is the only one left in the ring so he hits a suicide dive onto everyone. Kahagas hits Blanco with a cane and rolls him into the ring. He hits a Michinoku Driver to eliminate Blanco at 2:35. Rance and Delay hit a double dropkick on Kahagas for 2. They hit a double vertical suplex for 2. Kahagas fights them off until Delay hits a back suplex for 2. Kahagas pokes his eyes and crotches Rance up top. He goes for a back superplex but Delay hits him with a powerbomb as Rance flips into a crossbody, eliminating Kahagas at 4:27. Delay puts on a headlock and hits a shoulder tackle. Rance hits a back bodydrop but Delay comes back with a leaping forearm for 2. Rance hits an enziguiri for 2. He hits a blockbuster for 2. Delay hits the Edge-O-Matic for 2. He sets Rance up top but Rance fights him off and gets a sunset flip for 2. Delay hits a cradle DDT out of nowhere for the win at 7:42. This probably would have been more if Rance was in YRR mode instead of this bland babyface persona. As it is it was five jobbers doing moves for four minutes and then three minutes of decent back and forth action.
Rating: **

Colt Cabana VS. Milano Collection AT
Val probably picked Milano because he defeated Cabana’s partner Rinauro the night before. They lock up and Cabana powers Milano to the corner. Milano does the same to Cabana, hits a cheap shot and bails. Back in the ring Cabana kicks Milano down but Milano comes back with a wristlock. Cabana counters the hold but Milano regains the advantage with a leglock. He puts on a headlock and slams Cabana to the mat by his hair repeatedly. Cabana returns the favor and hits a series of hiptosses. Milano bails and takes quite a long time getting back in the ring. Cabana hits a shoulder tackle and a hiptoss. Milano dodges a blind charge and sends Cabana into the post. He puts on the Paradise Lock and hits a dropkick. He hits a hammerlock takedown and shoves Cabana to the floor. Kory Chavis hits a few cheap shots and rolls Cabana into the ring. Cabana gets a crucifix pin for 2. He hits a crossbody for 2. Milano cuts Cabana off with a back elbow. He stands on Cabana’s arm and hits it with a short double stomp. He hits an arm wringer takedown and then yanks on the arm. Cabana gets to the ropes. Milano dropkicks the arm but Cabana comes back with a forearm. He hits elbows and a bodyslam. He chops Milano in each corner and then hits double chops and a tomahawk chop. He climbs the ropes but Milano pulls the referee in the way of a tomahawk chop. Cabana hits a DDT but the referee is down. Milano dodges a clothesline and hits an enziguiri. He chokes Cabana with the leash of his invisible dog until the referee regains consciousness and makes him stop. He hits the Armani Shoe Exchange for 2. Cabana gets a boot up and hits a pair of clotheslines. He climbs the ropes and hits a missile dropkick for the win at 15:55. The finish was really out of nowhere but the match was a lot of fun.
Rating: ***

After the match the Davises run in and beat on Cabana. Rinauro makes the save with a chair. He helps Cabana up, leaving him open for an attack from Chavis, who Val we come to find is Rinauro’s opponent.

Sal Rinauro VS. Rainman
Once Cabana gets out of the ring the match begins. Chavis starts out in control due to the pre-match beating. He hits a clothesline for 2. He hits a powerslam for 2. He slams Rinauro to the mat by his hair. He hits a hanging neckbreaker for 2. He hits a vertical suplex into a slam for 2. Rinauro goes for a sunset flip but Chavis counters that to the Rydeen Bomb for 2. He puts on a chinlock but Rinauro dropkicks his knee. He stays on the leg and hits a clothesline. He hits another clothesline but Chavis stands strong and hits a big boot. Rinauro dodges a blind charge and hits a springboard clothesline. Phil Davis gets on the apron so Cabana pulls him down. The Davises beat on Cabana, distracting Rinauro long enough for Chavis to hit him with Val’s purse for the win at 6:38. That finish was awful, but the match up until then was alright for a completely one-sided beating.
Rating: **¼

After the match Sean Davis gets on the microphone and gloats about Chavis’s win. He says that now that Cabana and Rinauro aren’t getting a shot they’re going to punish the fans by wrestling the worst team in FIP, the Masked FIPPERs.

”Steve”ErickJerrelle Clark”Jay [Anything Goes Match]
The match begins when Clark & Fury attack Madison and Stevens during Madison’s pre-match rant. In the ring Fury knocks Stevens into Madison. Clark & Fury hit a double hiptoss on Stevens. Fury slams Stevens down and Clark hits him with a handspring moonsault. They go for their double-team finisher but Madison pulls Fury to the floor and helps Stevens hit a facebuster/neckbreaker combo on Clark. Everyone brawls to the floor where Clark throws Madison into a row of chairs and Stevens does the same to Fury. Madison goes for a piledriver on the floor but Clark counters to a backdrop. Fury hits Stevens with a running boot but Stevens fights back. Madison hits Clark with a bodyslam on the floor and then stomps a chair into his chest. Fury throws Stevens into a bunch of chairs. Clark knocks Madison into the wall and chokes him with an extension cord. Stevens powerbombs Fury onto the apron and rams him into the post. Clark hits Madison with an atomic drop but Madison comes back with chair shots to the gut. Madison hits Fury with a clothesline and Stevens rolls Clark into the ring and works his neck. He hits a vertical suplex and goes for a chair shot but Fury cuts him off with a kick. Fury swings Clark into a kick, knocking the chair out of Madison’s hands and into Stevens’s face. Fury hits Madison with a Jaytrix dropkick, knocking the chair into his face. Clark and Fury climb the ropes but Fury gets crotched and Clark misses a moonsault. Madison dumps Clark and helps Stevens hit a powerbomb on Fury. He hits a clothesline and a brainbuster on Clark. He and Stevens pile chairs in the middle of the ring and try to hit Clark with a double-team move onto it. Fury keeps Madison from hitting his part and Clark hits Stevens with a hurricanrana onto the chairs. Stevens clotheslines Madison by mistake and Clark & Fury hit their double-team finisher onto the chair for the win at 10:22. I expected very little from this match but it delivered an incredibly fun brawl. Great stuff from all four guys.
Rating: ***½

”Sean”Azrieal" VS. Jimmy Rave”Adam
Azrieal and Rave start. Rave powers Azrieal to the corner and hits a cheap shot. They knuckle up and Azrieal comes back from being powered down to put on a wristlock. Waltman and Pearce tag in. They play to the crowd for a while until Pearce attacks Waltman from behind on the floor. Pearce tries to throw water on Waltman and ends up throwing it on a fan. Azrieal and Rave fight as Waltman gets Pearce back in the ring and goes for the Bronco Buster. Pearce dodges it and puts the boots to him. He hits a vertical suplex but misses a second rope fistdrop. Rave and Azrieal tag in. Azrieal hits a back bodydrop but Prazak trips him from behind. Rave hits an elbowdrop and tags to Pearce. Waltman hits Pearce with the X-Factor and Azrieal hits Rave with the Demon Driver for the win at 14:00. The match was full of gaga but it was pretty fun the whole way through. It was wise to keep the limited Waltman on the apron for most of the match.

”Phil”Sean VS. ”Masked”Masked
What would seem like a lame main event on the surface gets more interesting when the FIPPERs come out and look completely different than they did earlier in the night. As a matter of fact #7 is wearing a Colt Cabana singlet and #8 has the Saved by the Sal tights on. The FIPPERs control to start. They poke the Davises in the eyes and ram their heads into each other. Prazak suggests that the FIPPERs must be Cabana and Rinauro. The Davises try to leave so the FIPPERs chase after them and drag them back to the ring. #7 rams Sean into the post and #8 hits Phil with a back bodydrop on the floor. Back in the ring #8 uses his spiky mask to pole Phil in the eye. He hits a jumping spike butt but Sean tags in and clotheslines him down. Phil tags in and whips Sean into the corner for an avalanche and a butt splash. Sean tags in and helps Phil hit a clothesline/legsweep combo for 2. #8 dodges a splash and tags to #7. #7 takes the Davises out with elbows. #8 comes off the top with a crossbody onto both opponents. The FIPPERs ram the Davises into each other and roll them up for the win at 5:29. Cute stuff.
Rating: *½

After the match Sean gets on the microphone and says that though they may have lost they’re still the champions. The FIPPERs then unmask to reveal that they were Cabana and Rinauro all along! Cabana demands a title match based on their non-title win tonight.

The 411BG Says

Evening the Odds 2005: Up to the main event this was one of the worst shows I’ve ever seen… ever. However the main event takes up almost half of the show and the way the whole thing was structured it was obvious that we aren’t meant to care about anything but the elimination match. The only problem is that the main event isn’t a good enough match that I can recommend that you run out and pick up this DVD on the strength of it alone.

Attack of the Masked FIPPERs: In contrast to ETO this show is great. Half of the matches hover around the *** range and a couple of them easily hit ***1/2. This is just a fun show all around, with good wrestling and a fun main event that moves Cabana and Rinauro into tag title contention. While I couldn't recommend the DVD based on the main event of ETO alone, I can give it a mild recommendation based on that match as well as Strong vs. Danielson, Fast & Furious vs. The Miracle Violence Connection, Cabana vs. Milano and the great angle between the Heartbreak Express and the team of Cabana and Rinauro.
